I’ve said this a few times. On Music’s Biggest Night™️ an artist MUST use a live mic but can supplement the production with background vocals plus dubbing.

Agree “thank u, next” deserved AOTY but cannot bash the Recording Academy. Many of the flaws of the voting system were overhauled right after this year’s 2022 broadcast.

I love seeing this angle, it feels like I am there. What sucks is seeing how dead the crowd is but I can only imagine they are told to not hype up the performers because it will be caught on the mics.

I was thinking the same thing, because the mic literally picked up everything from the crowd so I’d bet they were required not to sing along because it’ll mess up the audio I guess. But it is hard to watch when it’s so silent hahaha

The pit crowds (changed after pandemic) have paid to stand for hours and are instructed to wave arms but not join in. It has nothing to do with mics or the audio engineers, it’s about a pure sound from the performers that will be remixed for the artist(s). The audience behind them are A list nominees, their team and families. They’ll mouth the songs but it’s not their spotlight. You cannot hear fans singing (and screaming) because they are so far away in nose bleed seats. Sorry I missed this thread! 💜

Exactly manta! Staples (now Crypto-com) is a stadium. There are fans screaming “Ari” and are on their feet but you can’t see or hear them. Those on the floor are top category nominees, their family, agents, producers, label execs, lawyers…

Truth- Thank you Joshua! There are a lot of different reasons that factor in on the audience reactions. Which stage(s) are used from small to large productions. There’s so much more going on and the worst place to sit for hours without food or water is on the folding chairs on the floor or standing in the pit in black tie and/or heels. But today I’m signing off to watch football!

The scammys stage is small... Especially for the queen of pop.... Turned out the vmas and amas better

I hear ya 💔 It’s sometimes hard for me to watch having plans to open SXSW with a documentary film on a musician the following month. But when ICU’s were full and the LA Convention Center became a hospital- award shows and red carpet posing seemed even more frivilous.

Nominees get a set amount of tickets for four different events. Members of the Recording Academy can buy two to four unless your album or song is nominated then that number goes up. Corporate sponsors have allocated sections and The Grammy Foundation/ Museum usually auctions off a few packages and members that have to cancel their seats are resold for charity. The audience in the pit area are screened and pay $$$$ to be there standing for four to five hours with no breaks. The remaining “nosebleed seats” are given to radio stations to use or to hold contests for viewers that pass background checks and a super strict security line.
