Ariana Grande - God is a woman - Old Guy Reaction

Sorry for the long rants. This song is so good and Ariana creates incredible music. Then, when you throw in an amazing video and a deep message.....you get two old guys philosophizing. We cannot help ourselves....
But, we sure did love hearing this song and I cannot wait for more Ariana Grande music.

@@oldguyreactions when you take some Asian countries like India, china, etc., we worship both god and goddess. we believe that god is woman and man. you find that in online i guess. Hinduism consists of so many female gods and male gods. we worship them equally because they are very important gods to us.

it's a metaphor. she sings how she would please her partner in bed so he would think SHE is a God - 'you'll believe God is a woman' The song is also a women empowerment anthem. The God is a woman sentence itself is very empowering and she faces sexism here. By the way the scene with the screaming animals stands by women screaming of anger and wanting equality

God is a Woman. a great anthem for realizing the female power we hold. the pool she was swimming in resembled a lady flower (i dont know if y'all noticed), and the guys throwing words at her like fake or sl*t or b*tch and it bounces off of her because she's a woman. she's too powerful to absorb all the hate she gets for simply being a beautiful person, let alone beautiful WOMAN

people are saying this song is sexual, which it is but it's not the main theme of the video. this is a woman empowerment song and Ariana has spoken about the meanings behind a lot of the things In the video, like the glass ceiling breaking when she threw the hammer represents the barriers in place in society that prevent women from achieving certain things, and the idea of women breaking that glass ceiling. and the voice quoting the "you will know my name is the lord part" (which was said by a man in pulp fiction) was madonna, Ariana said she chose madonna to say it as she felt she paved the way for a lot of female artists like her and allowed them to be able to act in a certain way that they wouldn't have been able to before, so she felt it would be fitting as she was one of the first who didn't act like a typical "lady" and was quite sexual in nature. theres a lot more in the video that Ariana spoke about but yeah it's not just about sex lol and it also isn't literally saying god IS a woman, but I believe the suggestion that they could be a woman is there too.

"My name is the lord" is actually from the bible. Words spoken by God, theeself. Almost everything she said was, almost, exactly, as written. I believe she chose madonna because she was the first woman to audaciously, empower women in the media... and men hated her for it.

The song and the video both speak to the empowerment of women, the lyrics themselves being more sexual and the video representing a larger statement. A lot of the imagery refers to women creating and sustaining life (the nature scenes with pregnancy and even the legs), and a lot emphasizes a woman’s right to her own sexuality. You guys said sometimes women using looks is overdone and unnecessary, but the video itself kinda points out that women should be allowed to enjoy their sexuality and image without scrutiny or shame. The men throwing “slut” or “fake” words at her are an example of how often men in general will create the narrative that women should suppress their sexual desires or confidence related to sexuality if that makes sense. The video is so detailed and there’s a lot out there explaining more. I’ve heard the prairie dogs represent men in a world without women but that one is mostly up for debate LOL

You said it though. We're told in religion that God is like our father. You said God is not a man or woman, HE'S god. We're told that we are secondary in organized religion rather than also an equally important sex. From every area, women are relegated to the background, which opens us up to the possibility of abuse. Also, ALL of the major scenes in this video are from famous art. That's a famous quote from the Bible that Madonna changed in the 90's and she broke the glass ceiling. Get it.

Very simple. God creates. Women create life. Without women, humans won’t exist. They must gestate the very men who will oppress them later for 9 months, plus 18 years of their freedom to raise them. God is a creator, women are creators.

When she shatters the glass ceiling it kinda ties the message together.. Just female empowerment! A little weird, but it's in favor of feminism. The speech she gives before she throws the hammer: It's a bible verse rewritten by Quentin Tarintino for the movie Pulp Fiction. She just uses sisters instead of brothers. Ezekiel 25:17 is the verse I believe.

Great comment. God refers to himself as "I AM". There is no HE or SHE in the Bible. When man was created God said "let US create man in OUR image". That is where the trinity comes in. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. So in that light mankind has put a masculine context in God's personality. So calling him father helps us identify him as a man. But, God is God...I AM. Great comment. Thank you. I love discussing this stuff.
