Ariana is a very talented music producer and lyricist. The big pause in the line "I'm hating myself because you don't want to... admit that it hurts you" gets me every time. "I'm hating myself because you don't want to". What a deeply sad, powerful, but ultimately relatable sentiment.

I might be looking at it too deeply, but the separation (pause) can also translate so something else. It makes it work like two sentences in a way. "I'm hating myself because you don't want to..." If you separate it, it's like Ariana is internalizing all the negativity that he feels and thinks surrounding all of this convoluted situation. He doesn't wanna direct any of these negative feelings towards her, but her noticing how much effort this takes, she decides her own negativity to influence her self worth. Then the line "...admit that it hurts you" is like Ariana wanting to push him to admit that this situation is affecting him, but he does not as to not push the narrative that his feelings are a burden to her, since she is already dealing with so much. If you read both of them fluently, in one go, it gives the same meaning but with a different perspective

this song man..so special to her, she was at her lowest, she could barely talk about it and might be her most personal song so far..i'm still not alright with the fact that she begged scooter to not release this song and he still did, but at the end of the day i'm glad she shared a part of her personal life with this song now seeing her all happy, doing things she loves and even being married..i'm genuinely so happy for her, that she finally overcame all that sadness she had

if you don't understand this song: basically, she's saying a thank you to pete davidson for his understanding of mac's passing. if you didn't know already, ariana had to break off her engagement with pete because she still loved mac, her ex boyfriend who she still had love for, but he passed. she is saying she knows it breaks his heart when she cries again over mac. but she is also saying that she can't get over mac, therefore she and pete needed to break up, because she knew her truest love was gone.

Maybe after mac died she realised she didn't want to be with Pete either way. I don't know how much of a relationship we can see from a few songs but from the outside that's what it looks like

i just love the fact of how in this she says she is a 'girl with a whole lot of baggage' but then in 'POV' she says, 'All my baggage fadin' safely'. Which is so heart warming cus its show that she is healing and becoming herself again, after going through all of what she did

“i know you hear me when I cry, i try to hold it in at night” is so powerful and I feel like it’s not talked about enough in the song (well my opinion) because most of us can relate on this, when we’re going through so much and we can’t help but let our tears out, even tears people can hear. they can hear our pain, how broken we are just by tears. it’s powerful and yet sad.

Sad fact: ghostin was supposed to have a 3rd verse but she couldn't finish and broke down in tears so she decided to compose harmonies

A lot of people like to critic Ariana or Pete for their behavior through this relationship. But that's plain simple. They loved each other but Mac's death triggered something. And there was no going back with Mac's death, she couldn't love Pete freely anymore. Love is complicated I wish both of them a lot of happiness.

"we'll get through this (...) and I love you, we'll get past this" they were maybe having some troubles before. But they were working on it. It's not easy to see the one you love crying for an ex, day and night I imagine. Then again it's just my assumption based on the song.

She really needs to get into some therapy. Theres 100% chance she feels a lot of guilt over Mac's death even though its not warranted. The internet didn't help with that either. They were so vicious to her when Mac died. I know her writing these songs is a form of therapy, but I think she needs someone who is outside looking in.

Honestly I know it’s up to her but I can’t accept anyone else but Mac for her. They were in love. No one else for her. Everyone else is just distractions from her real love. This song is a prime example. No one will ever compare.

Let’s be grateful for her resilience and ability to move on. We all should learn from Ariana. She is a role model when it comes to facing adversity, from being exploited as a child to having lost her soulmate. Ariana is a powerful Tower of Strength.

Thank you for being brave enough to record and share this song with us.... it's beautiful and describes a situation with my spouse where he lost his love to death. It's been really hard for him, and I only imagine this is how he feels.

"He just comes to visit me when I'm dreaming every now and then." Such a powerful line that everybody who had experienced loss can relate to. This is her best song, so raw and exposed, you can feel her nerve endings.

@@emerald442 Ariana and Mac were best friends and after years of friendship they started dating, but about 2 years ago they broke up cause of his addiction to drugs, but how they've known each other for a long time they continue to be best friends. Only a few weeks later, she started dating Pete and after a few weeks they got engage. Everything was fine till Ariana found out that Mac died due to a drug overdose. This song is basically she saying sorry to pete for still loving mac and misses him and how, no metter how hard she tries, she can't ghostin him Ps. Sorry if i spelled something wrong

I dont know what to name myself it is super sad but it the final part is also imo easily the most beautiful thing she has ever done and maybe some of the most beautiful music i have ever heard. Great art is often made in super tough circumstances and this (sadly) is a perfect example. The harmonising and production is just totally next level (her idol Imogen Heap would be super proud)

Ghostin' is emotional and beautiful all at the same time. When there are too many emotional baggages to sort through, all you have running inside your head is stress and anxiety. Ariana sure knows how to connect well with listeners. The lyrics hit deeper than they should've been.

An incredibly painful song as it is so personal for me. My girlfriends ex died in a motorcycle accident two years ago. They had broken up about 6 months prior to his death. I ended up having past memories of a family relative who passed after hearing this song

I remember watching Pete's interview with Charlamagne when he said that he knew things were done between them after Mac passed because he didn't see how their relationship wouldn't be forever tainted by that tragedy, but he was prepared to be there until she didn't want him around anymore. The entire situation was so sad for everyone involved and you can feel that in this song.

Not a fan of the title and he kept trying to claim it’s all jokes, but he’s making jokes of things were taken out of context. I feel bad that he got cyber bullied by people online, but people also forgot that she was dealing with mental health issues and all she said was that she ended the relationship because she realized she was using it as a distraction and it wasn’t fair to him. The song helps me have understanding; I'm the Pete and he's the Ari, except these days he can leave me alone so much and just keep me in his phone. Tho we been tied for many lives, it seems he just wants convenient comfort from me and whoever he runs off to, to void fill for who he lost in this life... It's getting easier to fade away from him the more he's silent, much as it hurts. My hat goes to the two for giving forever a shot despite their undealt baggage. Such a beautiful song. And hope they recover well.

I really hope things do get better for you... it kinda proves that we all have unique kind of pains, losses and hurts but that doesn’t necessarily mean one type of pain’s more significant than the other. This song really did help me connect as well mostly at the part ‘ he just comes to visit me every now and then ‘, that’s honestly how it felt when I lost a person that was important to me. You just can’t let them go. It’s going to get better though, don’t let it hold you down and take away all the good stuff. I really hope things get better for all of us and there’s a high chance they will ♥️

As someone who also lost my soulmate to a drug overdose… this song hits me so hard in the feels. My boyfriend passed away in Dec. 2019. (Before you read this, I want u to know that everything will be fine soon or later but it will) “he just comes to visit me when I’m dreaming every now and then” so basically I’ve lost my boyfriend to covid-19, this song talks a lot about us! He was so incredible and he was always smiling and trying to make me smile, he made me the most happiest boy in the world! He always helped me with my depression and anxiety! He was also so understanding and the kindest person I’ve ever met in my life! I always felt not enough for everything and everyone and I was always crying and when he saw me crying, he just hugged me and said: You are the most special thing in this world, more than enough and i love u forever! He was special and still special cuz he always founded a way to make me smile over and over again! I’m so thankful for him! I’m hurt but happy cuz I have an angel looking for me!
