This song means a lot since Ariana wrote it thinking that if she is able to love someone again after Mac Miller's death, that meant a lot to her and she dedicates it to her current husband Dalton Gomez since he is the new love that entered her life and it is a new stage for her. Abel wrote his verse from the perspective of the other person who understands that it is a difficult situation but that does not prevent him from helping Ariana with her pain to heal her and that they can love each other and have a healthy relationship as they both deserve.🥰

I’m pretty sure this song is about Mac Miller. There’s references to love me harder, but if you think about it, she’s talking about someone she can’t have (she always said Mac was her soulmate) and wondering if love is even an option now that he’s gone. The Weeknd’s parts are referencing Dalton entering her life.
