Argon Neo Review & Test Awesome Raspberry Pi 4 Case

Ойындар

In this video, we take a look at and test out the Argon Neo Raspberry Pi 4 Case.
This is the case is passively cooled and the whole aluminum shell acts as the heatsink very similar to the Flirt case but this has a few tricks up its sleeve like a magnetically attached removable top that allows you to easily access the GPI pins DSi and CSI connector on the Raspberry Pi 4!

Argon is doing a great job designing cases, Immediatly went "Oooh cool!" when I saw the thumbnail and then seeing the first case when I started watching I recalled saying the same about that too. The really do look like original professional console or PC case designs.

@ETA PRIME The link you provided for the Neo and Fan board also included an 18w type c power supply. Just in case you didn't realize, you can get just the fan addon for $10 on amazon in addition to the $15 neo case for a total cost of $25 for an actively cooled neo compared to the $25 Argon one which is only passively cooled. When comparing both setups at the $25 price point the actively cooled neo has every feature of the argon one plus camera connector access, dsi interface access, and compatibility with more if not all hats that could be used on a Pi4 since the fan board adds on/off with safe shutdown and reboot capability to the Neo case as well as a raised passthru GPIO connector to clear the top of the metal housing over the USB & Ethernet ports as well as the fan itself).

This is the case I got, since the One can't be found on any reputable site. Paired it with the fan for overclocking. It works well enough. One design flaw that could be changed? The top piece needs to have some form of holes for ventilation and airflow. Temps reach about 75c+, but never throttle with a full O/C for me. Take the top piece off and they never break 65c.

I have 2 of these. Very well made. The fan board add on is a MUST HAVE. Particularly if you actually use your Pi4 in any way. If you try to run it with the cover on and no fan it will throttle.

For overclocking the "Armor" block style cases are amazing. I've never been over 60c in any situation, even stress tests. Some are passive cooled and some with 2 mini fans. I have the active cooling type and the fans are inaudible. sdcard and gpio fully accessible. Some companies on Amazon that offer them: MazerPi , Geekworm, Waveshare the list goes on and on but I would advice to find the cheapest cause they're all the same. I ended up picking mine up for $4 usd. Ebay has them also. Edit: Martin Rowen does some great case temp reviews.

ETA prime, I've made a Retropie build inside an old SEGA Master System case. It has a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ inside and its always cool with regular dissipators (small heatsinks), I have a cheap fan installed too but it's always off (because it's always cool). What do you think I should use for cooling if I upgrade it with Raspberry Pi 4? The SMS case is plastic, maybe it'll get too hot inside... I know Retropie is not officially out for Rpi4, but I'm planning ahead. Great channel! Thanks for your videos!

You mentioned in your review that the Neo lacked headroom for a HAT board, but not true. I'm using an expansion HAT that outputs 16 lines via screw terminal strips (TE Connectivity, 10 mm high) and it fits (barely). Provides a nice HAT solution and benefits from the thermal dissipation of that intervening metal floor between the HAT and the Pi 4. The HAT would adversely affect your worst case temp stress test, but under normal operation this a great solution for me.

At 2GHz in my Flirc case my Pi 4 only managed to hit 73C with the plastic lid bit on. That was with a prime number stress test so I'm wondering how you stressed yours to hit thermal throttle. My room is around 73F for reference. There may be some software optimizations done since this video so I'm not sure what exactly hurt the thermals in your tests.

Niall Tracey testing has no purpose really. When you use a metal case, you are essentially putting almost a complete Faraday cage around your RPi. There ir no way to avoid signal loss without drilling big holes or gaps in the metal itself which defies the purpose of a heatsink case in the first place.

Well, not tested again about how it'll reduce the wifi/bluetooth sinal strengh. One of the benefits of the Flirc is the rubber cover, that doesn't block wifi/bluetooth.

The rubber cover sits on top of the aluminium, so it's blocking plenty of wifi.

Rael G.C. One of which can be taken off. Besides, without side-by-side testing of signal strength, it’s impossible to say which is better. And they both have plastic bottoms, so if you’re upstairs from the router they might both be fine.

@@nialltracey2599 So, this is my complain: both should be compared about the wifi/bluetooth signal strenght. Last time I compared Flirc vs Biqu, Flirc was a WAY better (reducing the wifi less then Biqu, which required me to use an external dongle even use a bluetooth gamepad).

ETA, I like your video and content and love this case. I ordered it. I assembled it. Because it turns all the ports to a right angle, 4 parts of the Pi have to fit into the adapter: Power, HDMIs, and volume jack. The GPIO pins also all have to seat themselves in a 'plug'. THAT part didn't happen easily for me, and I had to wiggle the board and case to get them to fit. It SHOULD have been an easy fit. It wasn't. I ended up returning the case to Amazon. Did anyone else experience this? Or has anyone had success installing this case with ease? Please let me know. I think I'd like to use this one and not a Flirc.
