Argımak Attar - Altai Song

Arrangement & vocals by Farya Faraji. The Altai are a Turkic speaking ethnicity inhabiting the Altai Republic of Russia. Their traditional and historical culture was based on livestock and a nomadic or semi-nomadic structure, in which horses played an important, even central part, as seen in most of the mythologies of the steppes Turkic peoples and similar cultures.
The instrumentation consists of a topshur (also called dombra in other countries), possibly the central instrument of Altai music, as well as many of the folk Turkic traditions of the steppes, such as Kazakhstan, (although the shape of the topshur can change from country to country, even culture to culture. The specific dombra I have is a Kazakh one). The dombra is often played in a rapid manner using the index finger, in order to produce a sound reminiscent of the galloping of horses. Khoomei and related forms of singing form an essential part of the music of this region.
Lyrics in Altai:
Attar, attar, siler kaydan mantap bardıgar?
Attar, attar, siler neni sezip turıgar?
Argımak attar siler kayda bardıgar?
Baatırlar kaçan da mında cuvlaşkan,
Kanı akturıp jerge jayılgan,
Argımak attar siler kayda bardıgar?
English translation:
Horses, horses, where do you run?
Horses, horses, what do you feel?
Noble horses, where are you going?
Once here warriors fought,
Blood covered the ground,
Noble horses, where are you going?

Another important reason for the success of the Turks was their superior military technology and art of war. These nomads from the steppes could be credited with introducing the age of the horse'. The Turks used iron stirrup and horse- shoes that reinforced their striking power and the stamina of the cavalry, while horse- shoes provided greater mobility to the horse, stirrup gave the soldiers a distinct advantage.

  • @akeeMM

    @akeeMM

What? The age of the horse was always around since the days of the Seleucids who defeated several Roman armies with the use of Horse archers. The only meaningful victory the Turks ever had was over a crumbling, near bankrupt and constant civil war enduring empire. The 'Turks' then got their ass wiped by the Venetians, Romanians, Russians and the Spaniards. Stop changing history because you can't handle facts.

The Turks have constantly been an imperial people. They have made a habit of empire building, and although none of their structures have attained the imposing dimensions of the Mongol achievement, many of them have been far more lasting. The maps show at least a dozen states of the first rank which have been constructed by Turkish peoples, and another dozen built by Turkish leaders, sometimes by themselves, sometimes with the assistance of a military aristocracy of their own race.

Before the rise of Genghis Khan Mongolic was spreading at westward and absorbing Turkic speakers (Janhunen, 2008). During the Mongol expansion, Turkic speakers whose tribes and states had been incorporated into the Mongol empire were so much more numerous than Mongols that, although Mongolian was the language of command, it was Turkic rather than Mongolic speech that was chiefly spread across Central Asia and the central and western steppe.
