Ares 1-X Full Launch Experience HD

Ғылым және технология

From the T-minus 4 minute hold until the comments made by Kennedy Space Center Director Robert Cabana, this is truly a video you don't want to miss out on! It's a shame the future of NASA manned spaceflight won't rely on this rocket design, but as Ares 1-X lifts off it brings American Manned Spaceflight a little closer to the future! The liftoff occurred on October 28, 2009 at 11:30am. Want more? Go check out the NasaHD channel and see some more High Definition footage!

    you know when you build a rocket in ksp, then fly it to just make sure it doesn't explode and flies correctly? this is just that in real life.

    Makes me so angry they cancelled the Ares-1 and V. It was such a great idea. We would rather spend money on countries that hate us, programs that provide no future investment, or wars that benefit us in no possible way. NASA's budget is so low, yet they have done the most for this country in terms of technological advances, which if you think about it, is EVERYTHING this era is built upon.

    The Ares 1 was an awful and dangerous idea. In case of an abort between 30 to 60 seconds after liftoff, chances of crew survival would be zero. Nada. Other than that, I feel like we should be spending more in the name of science than warfare.

    Fun fact, this launch was very controversial in 2009. Critics saw it as a waste, saying that it could be easily done in simulations. Constellation program managers agreed, but argued that they wanted to combine both simulations and actual incremental flights mirroring the old Saturn I launches to make development faster. In reality though, NASA did this flight to try and garner public support for the dying Constellation program. It didn't and in fact backfired. Ares 1-X damaged the launch pad and had a parachute malfunction which led to the booster being seriously damaged on splash down. The public outrage following this basically cemented NASA's "failure is not option" mentality which led to the long SLS development.

    It was Obama who planted the seeds for SpaceX and the growing private space launch industries. Obama inherited the worst economic disaster in a century. Space wasn't exactly a priority just then.

  • @jaxonmattox9267

    @jaxonmattox9267

    Obama didn't plant the seeds, the very gradual efforts over the 80s and 90s to build the ISS made it happen so quickly. Even without ISS SpaceX would have been successful, just not as quickly. Bezos didn't and doesn't need any help, so Obama doesn't really deserve credit for anything happening in the commercial space sector.

    The Ares-1 was a bad design anyway. Firstly, it completely destroyed the launch pad and secondly, the vibrations caused by the solid rocket motor were too high for humans to survive.

  • @VulcanGamesReal

    @VulcanGamesReal
