Area of Rectangles and Triangles

The area of a rectangle is the product of its length and breadth (or base and height). And, the area of a triangle is half the product of its base and height. But where did these formulas come from? And are these two formulas related somehow?
To answer that, we'll first understand how we find the area of any shape. Then, we'll extend this knowledge to find the area of a rectangle. Finally, we'll find the area of any triangle, using what we learnt.
