Area Light in Unity - Unity Lighting Tutorial 07
Notes for You:: Area Light in Unity (baked only)
- emits light in a specified direction, in a rectangular shape.
- affects the scene only when we generate light maps i.e. when we bake the light.
Creating Area light:
- Go to GameObject Menu - Light - Area light (Backed only).
Note:
- To find the effect of Area light, game object must be set to Static and Auto Generate Light must be on
How to Bake Lights:
Steps to generate lightmaps:
- Select game objects which must be affected by light - Check Static checkbox
- Select Lights and set Render mode to Baked - Check Static check box
Note: To bake lights or generate light maps, scene must be saved
- Window Menu - Lighting - Settings- Scene Tab - Uncheck Auto Generate checkbox - Click on Generate Lighting button
Note:
Baking lights:
- is usually the last step in game production;
- is done to increase the performance by reducing number of unnecessary lighting calculations on each frame at runtime.
- Unity does not modify the original textures, it just generates light maps which are overlaid on top of original textures.
