This movie and Prisoners really shows how much of a great actor Hugh Jackman is. The speech by Angier at the end is so great, one my favorite parts of the movie. The Prestige and Interstellar are one of the best movies ever made IMO. Nolan is a genius and already a legend. I hope he makes many more movies.

Its an amazing film, especially when looking back you realise that the whole film is structured as a magic trick (The Pledge, The Turn and finally The Prestige). All the answers are there but we dont see them as our attention us being drawn elsewhere. Christopher Nolan playing cinema 4d chess again 🤯

@@undbiter65 the films told us many times lmao some are hard to notice like when Angier read Borden's journal and it started by "we are 2 young men, devoted into illusion" and angier thought the 2 young men are borden and him some are obvious like when cutter introduced the drunk root as angier body double, and cutter said "he can be your brother", angier replied "no i want him to become me" some are really obvious as Sarah always said that there were days that Borden loves him and days that he doesnt. "do you love me", "not today" or when Borden speak into camera "we are done, dont go after him, i dont need his secret" and later Borden said to Fallon "you are right i should never went after him" there are many more subtle foreshadows

The "Milk and Sugar?" trick has to be one of the boldest hints towards a major twist I've come across so far yet the movie convinces you to suspend your disbelief because he's a magician...even Cuttler saying "The only way I know how to do this trick is with a double" can be overlooked with "well so he doesn't know Bordon's method". But him appearing on the other side of the door within less than 5 seconds is literally impossible (even with windows lol)...it HAD to have been a 2nd person and suprise! It actually was!

"Are you watching closely?" Fun Fact: The use of twins in a "transported man" magic show was, in fact, quite common when the movie takes place. Time Traveling Fact: The editing includes one hundred forty-six time jump cuts, in which the next shot either flashes back or skips ahead to another time period of the storyline. This averages to almost one timeline jump per minute of the movie. Casting Notes Fact: David Bowie initially declined the role of Nikola Tesla when it was offered to him. Christopher Nolan flew out to him personally to tell him that he was the only person he imagined for the role, and that his larger than life persona would make the idea of Tesla building a cloning device believable. Upon hearing this, David Bowie changed his mind and took the role. Historical Fact: Chung Ling Soo (Chao Li Chi) was indeed a real historical magician. In fact, it was the stage name of William Ellsworth Robinson, a white man who disguised himself as a Chinese man to cash in on audiences' enthusiasm for the exotic. Robinson lived as Chung, never breaking character while in public. He died in March 1918, when a bullet-catch trick went wrong. "My God, I've been shot" were both his last words and the first English he had spoken on stage in nineteen years. Nikola Tesla was a world-renowned inventor, physicist, and engineer. For a while, he conducted electrical experiments at his lab in Colorado Springs, where he was also known for his eccentric behavior.

You did catch at the end. a few fleeting scenes. After the shooting. You realize what the victim meant by "I have sacrificed too". "But I am not the one in the box." Look at where you are". This was a warehouse full of those boxes, those tanks. Dozens on dozens of them. And in each box, a tank of water with a dead clone in it. One dead clone, dying in agony, each time the trick was performed. Some people miss it and think the movie is over. They don't make the connection. They don't see the background in the final scenes. But for me, that scene WAS The Rresitge. That was the scene that justified the rest of the movie.

Hi Miss Biss, Congratulations on 40K, it is well deserved!!!🎉🎉🎈🎈🎊🎊You will be at 50K in no time!😉A very clever and well acted film, worth repeat viewing. I was stationed in Colorado Springs for 7 years. It is a very nice area. They have animal ranglers Biss, that have trained all types of animals for films. Magic is misdirection. They have you looking at one hand when something is going on in the other hand. Tesla was an incredible man, ahead of his time in real life. I was the same as you seeing this for the first time. I was on to the cloning and Tesla, but I was distracted by it and paid little attention to Fallon. There are some hints in the film, like when the kid in the audience says "Where's his brother?" about the bird killed in the cage. SUPER reactions to this excellent mystery suspense mystery, Bisscute!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I eventually noticed that they almost never showed us Fallon's face, which made me highly suspicious of him -- any "normal" movie would have featured his reaction after his brush with death (buried alive) -- but by then there wasn't enough time left for me to figure out his secret before the full reveal came along.

I saw this movie in the theater twice when it was released. On the second time the scene with the boy crying in the beginning with the tick with the bird stood out to me. It was great foreshadowing. Not just because you find out that the original bird gets killed and you see an identical bird which they make you believe it’s the same bird(Angier), but the kid also asks “but where’s his brother?”(Borden). It was just genious.

  • @kalt7990

This movie is so good at misdirection that it wasn't until a recent rewatch that I realized that Fallon was actually Borden's twin brother and not his copy. This satisfies many questions I had when I thought Fallon was a copy. There's just 2 things I still don't understand about this movie: 1. How did Tesla know what Angier needed since he explained it as Borden's secret? 2. How was Angier able to control where his copies would appear? During Tesla's demo, the machine seemingly sent the copies to a random spot nearby. But during the Angier's act he was able to make his copy appear in several locations for maximum effect.

This is definitely a film that you can enjoy and find new things on a rewatch. When Borden does the bird trick in front of Sarah's nephew, the nephew says "But what about his brother?" The first time you watch it you grow to dislike Borden's character for occasionally not loving Sarah and having an affair with Olivia. But then you realize that they are 2 brothers and one of them loved Sarah and one of them loved Olivia.

Fallon was very suspicious to me during my 1st watch, not in a bad way, figured there was a mystery there I couldn't see. Tried to figure out who(actor) is playing him. You can definitely see the Alfred Hitchcock influence in this movie. At 19:30 The character Alley is played by Andy Serkis, who plays Gollum & Ceasar. If you don't know who Ceasar the Ape is, you definitely need to watch the recent PLANET OF THE APES trilogy(RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, & WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES)

I think the former having an {arguably} less star-studded cast; (although Paul Giamatti was amazing as always) plus it being the one everyone knew about by the time 'The Prestige' came out... Are the main reasons 'The Illusionist' got less love. ------Opinion Based Spoilers Below----- More importantly though; 'The Prestige' is an overall better movie... Fun fact: both brothers are actually fathers of the little girl. They are twins and have the same DNA, so even if only one of them could conceive her (do they even know which one it was?), the girl has the DNA of both of them. The DNA paternity test would give the same positive result for both. They are also both her fathers, because each of them spent half of the time with her and raised her equally, as if he was the only father.

This is one of those gems that, sadly, I can't watch as often as I'd like to because of how gutting it is for the women going through what they're going through, especially with Rebecca Halls aching performance(!). And the sad thing is that they're collateral damage, they on the sidelines and didn't instigate any of this 'younger mans' obsessiveness. Beautiful acting, story-line, cinematography, all so good, and so gutting.

Watching a movie should be enjoyable. It doesn't always have to be a competition. I get that you're ultra competitive but I feel like sometimes you get preoccupied with "figuring out" the movie and don't enjoy the ride (see "The Usual Suspects").

Borden and Fallon were NOT twins! Remember, Borden got the machine before Angier's did. The difference between the two men is that Borden only created ONE clone, but was not willing to kill him, hence: Fallon. Angier, however was happy to murder his clones (one per show, actually). That's why the clone that we saw drop into the water tank was locked in, but Borden intervened. Angier took advantage of his being there to frame him. That's why Michael Caine made the comment about drowning. Did you realise that this movie was Wolverine vs Batman, with the Black Widow. Batman even brought Alfred along.

No, Borden and Fallon were twins. There was no cloning involved in their deception. He says that they shared a life - when they see the Chinese magician and Borden says "this is the act" he is talking about himself - he is always acting - two brothers sharing one life.
