Are press ups, sit ups and pull ups all you need to build good enough upper body strength? or are there other things to consider

Are you really scared of heights or are you actually scared of the really sudden stop if you fall off a height?

Well being scared of one of them is logical and the other illogical so the good news is that it can be overcome. "Knowledge Dispels Fear". You need to establish if it's height or exposure that bothers you and then find the point at which it kicks in. Once you've established those parameters you can push them further.
