Are You Committed To God Or To Your Church Leaders

Ойын-сауық

Nearly 80% of South Africans identify as members of a Christian denomination. It is, therefore, no surprise that church institutions and buildings in South Africa are as ubiquitous as iPhones and fast-food restaurants in America. But how many of these church leaders and institutions have managed to convince people that they are themselves divine?

I am committed to God, but church is part of my community. In whatever province I leave in, ill choose Methodist. As for leaders, they are people just like us, but assigned to lead us, not us to worship.

I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation. As a person who is currently going through the transition of being a person who just goes to church and listens to whatever is being said (bordering on being a cult) as opposed to listening and scrutinizing their ( the leaders) interpretation of the word, this has been eye opening and validating.

I question mna... not directly to them as that could be viewed as defiant. But my personality doesn't allow me to take whatever...

I just found this channel, and I'm glad I did. I'm on binge watch right now. I wonder why the views are not as much. More so the subbies, but I'll do my part and share this channel. You deserve more, and I know your moment will come to have 100k. This particular episode will hit a nerve of so many people in my church. I always say as much as I respect my church leaders, there's a level of my loyalty that only lies with God than with the human before me. I'll never compromise my relationship with God just to please a man.

This is just so provoking. Can Given please recommend the material by John G Lake that he listened to? I would really like to go through it. What stood out for me the most is the last part of the conversation which speaks about the "barrier to entry". Some hard food for thought! Thank you!

Imagine someone says I release your blessings. Christ is the only one with keys to our blessings. We need to study the bible so that we are not naive as black people.

There is a big difference between being spiritual and being religious. Generally Africans are spiritual and we pray to and worship the creator and we received blessings from our creator e.g. rain ceremonies. In contrast religion is a billion dollar material (real estate and other assets) industry. Religion is a western culture vehicle used by the colonialists in the past as an advance team to mobilise communities, tame them, divide them into different denominations and rob them of their resources using tithing, monetary and non-monetary contributions, and seeding. Networks were formed within denominations to assist church members and attract new members into the denomination otherwise if you don't belong to a denomination you will be left out dry and desperately poor. Our African people have joined the bandwagon for self enrichment. Some churches have evolved into cults and you will be hooked for life until you get a life changing experience and realise that you have been subtly scammed if you are that lucky to have your eyes opened. Unfortunately some African people see African culture as backward and oppressive especially to women and see Western culture as superior and a way to prosperity and to liberate them from our culture. But this always comes with a cost

I love the host and the channel. Given sounds like a person who really knows church and understands the importance of this topic and how deep it is but I also get the sense that the host doesn’t know much about church and it made the episode uncomfortable in a way. But thats just my 2c 🤷🏽‍♀️
