I passed my OCVT/MFT today!
I have a red-green color deficiency. I found out about it when I took my first airman's physical when I was 15. (1963). The first color circles presented here I couldn't see any breaks in the lines. Couldn't even see the lines. Had to have my wife point out the lines themselves. Good presentation. Thank you.
Thanks Greg I am green and red deficiency I found out a long time ago when I was in high school and wanted to fly military jets they said thanks but no thanks I thought I was the only person having trouble on the charts

Same here :(
Greg, it is astonishing how articulate you convey very complicated aviation information in such a small amount of time! Thank you!
The Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guards did not want me, but the Army (Vietnam War) did. Color deficiency is a disability, but I passed my FAA Part 107 exam with no chart errors. Greg's tips work. Study the chart carefully. There is almost a bit of text someplace to give you a clue.
Great information. It amazes me how well you do so much information so fast, and still make it so clear High Five Greg!
Thanks, I had issues one on the far right , but i could make out the other 2 test. Great additional information to double check the airspace class. Color blindness can begin as we age.
Fantastic video, Greg. I have a red and green deficiency. I found out during my induction physical. I couldn't figure out what the guys were seeing on the flip charts. This REALLY helps me out although I'm going to have to go back and look at the Class E segmented lines.
Thank you for your work in putting this video together. I've been told that I'm color blind, but I was able to see all the colors and differences, it seems. So I think I'll get tested again to see which deficiency I have. Also, I don't remember having been taught about some of those smaller marking differences. Shapes, colors, line types, yes, but not the other little notes. I luckily passed my Part 197 missing only 1 problem, but it wasn't related to the charts. I passed all of those questions. FYI, the proctor mentioned that the knowledge needed on the Part 107 (sUAS drone Pilot Test) is roughly half of a G.A. Pilot's License Test. (In case somoeone was wondering.)
Thanks for the information this was interesting👊🙏😎
Love this vid! Thx
I have a red/ green deficiency. I barely see any of the numbers in the Ishihara test. I can see the sectional colors ok there are other test besides Ishihara’s if you have a color deficiency, but only certain AMEs will give them
Great information. Wish you’d go into the alternative testing to include taking the Operational Color Vision Test (OCVT) to get a letter of evidence. (LOE). I can’t pass Ishihara but have taken Farnsworth Lantern in past and passed. I’m researching now as I’m looking to get Class 3 and start training
Thanks!
How do you not know once you meet with the AME? I currently have a restriction on my license for this (red/green) unless I can pass the tower test, there will be no night flight for me etc. And yeah, it sucks for many things and I think they could do more event with shade. The one thing I appreciate that there are some levels of other types of markings that help like this. Great examples to run through.
Very good video
I’m color blind but I can see all of these colors. I could even see the breaks in the lines of the circles, the first two anyway. Still worried about my ability to get 1st class certificate

I got one but can only fly day time until the tower passes me or something like that or a letter gets sent to medical doctor I believe
My brother shawn is partially color-blind and has problems with green thankfully I see all colors in H.D with my glasses😂👊🙏😎
I’m a pilot who took both the OCVT and MFT and passed. If you have any questions feel free to comment, I’ll do my best to help you out.

I’m kinda worried about the faa test. Iv taken the tests online and says I have a mild red green deficiency. Will that stop you from being an airline pilot or getting your first class medical?

@@user-kh3en6sf1x not at all. If your colorblindness is not severe, you can still hold a 1st class and become an airline pilot. If you do have a colorblindness restriction on your medical certificate, you can have them removed by taking an in person test with an FAA examiner. you’ll need to show you can see all colors on a VFR sectional chart, and the colors of ATC light gun signals. Then the colors inside a plane cockpit as well. It’s very achievable.

Do you have to do it in a plane or can you rent a sim for a few hours and have it done that way? Seems cheaper before you spend 20k. Just to get it done and over with for a few hundred. Or is a sim not the same as real life? Thanks for your reply

@@user-kh3en6sf1x The first part of removing a Color blindness medical restriction is an OCVT. You can take an OCVT without any money being spent. If you’re able the pass the OCVT you shouldn’t struggle to pass the next test (The MFT). Passing the OCVT will allow you to hold a 3rd class no restrictions, and allow you to hold a low level pilot license like a student/private Pilot license. The absolute cheapest way to do this is to take the OCVT, and if passed get your student pilot license through a flight school nearby. Once you’re around the time where you’re ready to solo you can schedule this test before finishing an entire course. BUT to get everything off your record it may cost you up to 15 grand.

I just took medical exam for first class and ended up with third with limitations because I failed color vision test, which I believe it was Ishihara test. I want to become airline pilot, so I took that before I start private pilot training. Do you think I should try some other FAA approved tests or aim for OCVT and MFT? Did you look for other tests or go straight to OCVT and MFT?? I would appreciate for any advice. Thank you!
I am an international student can I be a pilot in the USA so can you tell me the step that I must follow
Which part of the eye tells color? Cones, rods or the lens?

Cones are responsible for color.
