Next video how to be a light follower!!!! I was telling a friend that she was relying to much on me and supporting herself to much on me, like resting her weight on me all the time and expecting me to push her around. What is a big difficulty for musicality as you cannot adapt the dance/move to the music as you are, as a leader, "fighting" with her rather than reacting to the music.

I’m definitely not rough as a lead, but I’d say most issues I have are to do with timing - especially with break backs and break forwards (tends to be about rushing)

Yes timing is also very important, and it's a very difficult thing master, but definitely possible 😇

I can agree with many points from experience. I have learnt recently and practiced the female or follower steps to be more woke minded & its more difficult than I ever would have thought..as.a.result I can hold more compasion for followers ( does not mean I'm going to start saying yes 😜) I would say we are what we practise and do, like the tips you mention. The personality thing is difficult as ppl will always do or think what they want it's their personality 👀 The only tips I could add based on experience is Dance with ppl you are comfortable with and say no to ppl you are not. Why? Ppl you have a good energy with you will be able to communicate easliy and ppl you bad enegy with, you could be the best dancer in the world thier intentions are clear before you even begin the dance. We.dont like to talk about the Dark Side of Dance, the elephant in the room and the Taboo goings like 1 example: SBK is big yet with social media small at the same time. There is alot gossiping, judging, backstabbing, competivness ( not just dancing) ppl see these ppl, and so what we have in a scenario where ppl either know or have an what's going on but pretend they don't know...most ppl say their true feeling about others in the car for some reason 🤔 Why is this relevant, because this ties in with the personality. The reults is you get chaos rather than order in practise. On side note I would like to request a topic please. HOW IMPORTANT ARE LOOKS AND PHYSICAL ASTHESTICS ON THE SOCIAL FLOOR? In reality

Excellent video, being adaptable is key. I try my best to be as light as I can. I try and gauge the level we can dance at as certain moves need more 'force' or maybe 'pace' is a better word but only with followers where I feel we can control and execute it with well and safely together- if not then I go for moves I know we can so that we can both stay safe and aim to enjoy! Very important video, thanks again! :)

I don't consider myself a rough leader, quite the opposite, they often commend me for being a gentle lead. Anyway I'm glad that I watched your video, because I find the last part very useful 7:25

It's useful for everyone to check themselves from time to time 😊. Cause the lead also changes during circumstances 😊.

Well, interesting topic. But all it comes back to, if you are getting feedback from follower, which you don't normally, if not doing something very wrong. But it really would be great to get it. Both what you are doing good and bad. Maybe some type of social where after each song things stop and people fills their impressions on paper. After people receive anonymous descriptions. Would be like course evaluation :)

Interesting...but how would you define an "advance" dancer? What makes it different from a teacher/artist or "intermediate"? Would be nice to have your opinion on that

Thank you Rasa. I have enjoyed watching a lot of your videos and think this is one of your best and most important. I am a Lead. My strong dance is Swing but I also enjoy Salsa. I think that in my better moments I am able to do close to what you are saying here. One of my usual Follows has described my leading as " suave"! [Eric blushes modestly] May I respectfully link to another video with a related message that I have found helpful. For the Lead, "less is more". kzread.info/dash/bejne/rHtrpo9pmpjVprA.html Thank you again, Eric

What's your opinion on 2 people interpreting the timing differently? (Background: just got back from Havana and danced with a euro lady who I couldn't connect with. Bi tries connecting with her rhythm, and we would fall off. I would stick to the consistent timing I had and there was no connection. Literally the worst dance I'd had all year).

Connecting and dancing of time are 2 different things. Her job is to follow your timing, your job to keep some sort of timing. But connection is more like no matter what you just don't feel it comfortable with each other . It could have been 2 in one 😅
