1. yes, multiple 2. i did not have enough money for a car because i spent it all on bikes 3. i hate riding on a road bike if i can do the same trip on a mountainbike, does not matter if its 100% tarmac or not. a bike is still better than no bike though 4. yes 5. far more than most people 6. dislocated my shoulder if that counts 7. i just cant stand the weight, im the kind of rider who either likes to go as fast as posible down a hill, or have fun poping and pumping off every thing imaginably as a lip, so in both cases the extra weight just makes the entire reason for riding less fun. ive riden them and for me its not woth with the way i ride

1. Nope, not into that 2. Yep, by 500 dollars. 3. Not at all, I own a road bike so I can do different types of exercise from time to time. I love bikes and it shouldn't be restricted to mountain bikes. 4. Sure, mostly just T-shirts with MTB related logos and other stuff. 5. Def not, but I can learn 6. On the works 7. Not really, but it's only because all the local E-Bikers are so unskilled that they can't keep up with me.

No, i ride since three years, and had no injury since then💪 7. Yes!!!! NO E-Bike overtook me ever. Especially on the uphills I'm always faster.😀

Suggestion for 2 more questions for the stereotype: "Are you always late to everything?" And "Do you suck at planning?" I have never met and ridden with someone who was on time and/or good at planning. They always plan for rides 30 minutes beforehand at best and end up being 15+ minutes late to everything
Martyn’s very humble about Joe having posters of him on his wall ! Great dude 💪🏻 love the content 🚵🏻♂️

That was fun, we need more roving Martyn Q&A episodes!
I feel like the flannel-shirt trend is more about city riders who go out into the country to ride MTB. You're more likely to find tough clothing (denim, or perhaps a hickory shirt or Carhartt work clothes) on someone who actually lives out in the mountains and keeps his bike on his front porch.
Loved this GMBN. More Martyn Q&A please. My takeaway, the stereotype has morphed with the times. And I'm a major fail on the quiz. I don't even own an MTB, but there's the flannel, the gravel machine, value of all bikes is worth more than my car, I hate five figure road bikes, collarbone ✅, garb on or off bike, and.....e-bikes are brilliant. Dang, I failed again.☺️😉
I love the content GMBN , keep up the good work.

maybe with some small adjustments to the questions you could have gotten more people with high scores. expensive bike question, maybe ask if they get told they are spending too much on bikes. pretty hard to have enough money for an expensive bike but not spend money on a car unless you're the rare bird without a car. or allergic to e-bikes, could have been, do you think e-bikes are cheating, that every able-bodied person should pedal their own bike without a motor? Or instead of do you think you know everything about bikes, do your friends think you're a bike know-it-all? because most people who know a lot will also realize there is a lot they don't know

Ebike may not be for me, but if it can extend the riding life of someone older or get someone who might never push an unaided pedal out into the wild or reduce the number of cars in the lot of the local grocer, then it's okay by me.

There are 2 types of cyclist (mtb, road, motor bikes, etc): 1- The ones who have broken their collarbones, 2- The ones who are going to break it.
7:56 you admitted it mart! But the roadbike question: is that about the machine itself or the persons riding it hahah :) Fun video!
It’s good answer yes while shaking you head no to maximise the best possible outcome! Worth practicing in advance 👍
1) yeah I've got several 2) Enduro bike $3500, XC bike/ Hardtail $2300, Road/ gravel $3000. and i bought my truck for $1200. 3) see answer for #2 4) yeah sometimes 5) more or less yeah 6) yup, took my road bike to a jump track... probably should have lowered the saddle first. 7) they have their place... for slow riders to keep up.
In the old days of mountain biking you wore your MTB garb all the time because you were mountain biking in your regular garb, that was all you had. Biking garb in loud colours was something roadies wore.
Even Neil and Blake would answer "No" to question 5. The one of the most mountain bikey mountain bikers I can think of; Sam Pilgrim, rides an e-bike 😂 What really ties us together? We know what we don't know. We like gear. We like not being in contact with the ground. We like scaring the crap out of ourselves. We're big fans of gravity, just not the sudden stops when gravity overdoes it a bit. We like dirt, especially if it's on a slope (see gravity) We like being with other MTBers. We dream of going to Whistler.

Do you wear your mtb garb when not mountain biking? "Well yes of course, I wear my Mons Royale Merino mtb jersey to bed some times it's so comfortable!" ;) As for flannel shirt, ive been wearing flannel shirts since way before they were trendy in the mtb scene.. I used to wear them at Drum & Bass gigs & outdoor raves 20 years ago & still wear them regularly.. But i dont wear them mtb tho..
Imo roadbikes are the perfect addition to every mountainbikers life. Just the fact that you can do insane distances.
Awesome! Way to interact with real people in a fun light hearted way.

Thanks, Matt! It was really fun to interact with everyone! 👍
I have 6 flannel shirts. My bike is worth twice as much as my van( my van is my car). I hate road bikes since MTBs can do it all. I wear my mountain biking garb when not biking. It is a badge of honor. Of course, I know everything about mountain biking, after all, I watch GMBN and GMBN tech every week. I have broken my collar bone and my rotator cuff and had to get a total reverse shoulder replacement. Now my left shoulder is shorter than my right. I need costume handlebars that are also shorter on the left side. Where I fail, at least partway, is on the question of e-bikes. I love EMTBs because they are mountain bikes. I am allergic to road e-bikes, though.
1. Have you got a flannel shirt? - Yes 2. Is your mountain bike worth more than your car? - Don't have a car so yes 3. Do you HATE road bikes? - Absolutely 4. Do you wear MTB clothes when you're not even riding? - yes 5. Think you know everything about bikes? - Pretty much yes 6. Have you ever broken a collar bone? Yes and separated shoulder 7. Are you allergic to E-Bikes? - despise them.
Peace is breaking out between mtb and e-mtb 🕊️🤙
Love how martin has got so many bikes, which btw is so not a MTB stereo type thing ;D
I guy with a flannel walked behind you guys..🤣🤣
Nice video format to interview great unfamous mtber’s. Being realistic if god of MTB knowledge asks you if you think you know all about mtb, you kinda freeze before to answer, as if it’s a yes, it may bring a kind of : you know nothing John Snow 🤣
Great episode! I am a typical MTB’r. Although I have to say that hate is a strong word…it’s more like I hate to ride on the road
These are great types of videos. Especially good with Martyn Ashton.
Lol I’m 15, so I guess I fit everything except the collarbone question! Into pretty decent detail, I’d consider myself knowledgeable on mtb
I am such a stereotypical MTB’er I even wear a 29” wheel underneath my shirt 😇 Still love to ride.
I don't agree on the road bike hate thing. Going up Tourmalet on the road bike with those mountains around you is priceless!!. And for commuting if necessary. That;s all.
So many Trek Bikes... Holy moly
The most stereotypical mountain biker wouldn't stop for questions they'd be too busy trying get more shred time in
1. No but does my nickname Banjo count? 2. Old car yes, but I've upgraded specifically for mtbing. 3. Yes boring as feck! 4. Yes. 5. 90% as its forever evolving and new tech/news each day! 6. Yes, both. Rugby and mtbing. I've broken 18 bones in all over a 40 year period, and I'm 43 lol. 7. Yes!!! I think they are great for getting those less able out there to enjoy, but I feel they will make the general rider lazy! But that is controversial, however I refuse to have one as I actually enjoy and respect the climbs.
I can answer yes to all of them! My bike is worth more to me than my car!!! I say give it to Joel as long as he never buys an e-bike
See the problem I have with ebikes is that as soon as I ride one I won’t want to go back to my regular bike
That was fun ! And no to all the questions.
Joel was the most typical for me - plus he started out with trials which makes him my brethren 😎
Stereotypical MTBers remind me of us stereotypical Rockclimbers; 'Just glad to be here doing my thing and glad you've come along too." lol, Why it was hard getting "do you hate" out of people's mouths lol.
Most important question. Do you own a fully rigid 26" mountain bike?
Super fun, great stuff knowing I'm normal
I can say yes to all except for knowing everything about mountain biking, since I just learned about linkage cause I just got my rear shock replaced and to hating road bikes since I also have a roadie
I am liking to see the subtle way that GMBN team is slowly starting to introduce and accept emtbs... I Sense that within a year or so there will be a fusion between GMBN and EMBN... Just saying.. 😇
The only stereotype I believe in for MTB'rs is : Do you ride any MTB trail at least more than once a week? if the answer is yes, then that is all I need. :D I wear Pajamas and crocks meself, on a Walmart brand rigid bike :D
I'm yes for all but braking my Colar Bone, I Tuck n Roll.......Ha !!

Its interesting to see the mtb network expecting their community to hate roadbikes.
Great video, let’s do more like this.❤❤
i love putting on my kit every chance i get
1. Wearing it whilest watching 2. Yes, bike is worth 4 of my car (total bomb) 3. Indifferent, so yes 🤷 4. Yes 5. People ask me questions, I answer to my best ability 6. Yea, this year 7. Yes, for sure. I can still beat them on the downs
If you're Canadian, you have a closet full of flanel shirts, regardless whether you mountain bike or not.

The only one I miss put on is ebikes. As an older fatter ex downhill type, I've long passed my prime either by injuries or age. Ebikes help me carry on doing what I enjoy. Does breaking multiple bones , damaging multiple joints and permeability damaging cartlige and kneecaps count over ebikes ? 😊
I'm almost certainly going to be the least stereotypical MTB that ever existed 😀😀😀 What's a flannel shirt anyway? Been a roadie for 30 years plus, don't own a peaked helmet and never will, haven't got any "baggy" clothing and never will, don't know a thing about MTB but have just bought one to go with my 4 road bikes, I use my road clipless power pedals on my MTB and gravel bike. I'm sure I'm going to fit in just fine at the FoD 😃😃😃
Martyn you are! You won! :D
Haha i think the typical mountainbiker doesnt say yes to all the questions.
@james - what do you use for wrist protection? Broke both of mine not long ago O-;
A typical mountainbiker has more stitches than broken bones.
You forgot to ask if they’ve ever drank Red Bull!!!
Wearing my mtb pants all now, lol.
No I'm not, but I loved the segment.
1. I have several flannel shirts 2. Yes, both my bike cost more than my car. 3. Roadies are bored 4. All the time. I wear it shopping 5. I work at a bike shop, so I do know everything. That's how I get paid 7. Ive broken many bones 8. Only sissies padel ebikes. Grow a set of legs!!!
Surprising not every mountain biker doesn't have a flannel.
those POC helmets in loud colors are just so sick..
I check all of the questions
This was a "fun" watch!
Mountain bike is More adventurous....than road bike....😂😂😂
Adam for sure was the most stereotypical
I own an e-bike as my second bike, and I really love it, but somehow I hate it too, e-bikes are too expensive, too heavy, too bulky and they have numerous mechanicals and ELECTRICALS so to call it... And I really hate road bikes, especially when driving to a bikepark and being in hurry. So its a YES all along, besides breaking a collar bone. Weirdly enought it is the only bone that I've never broke, I even fractured my heel last summer ;)
Good stuff
I answered no to most of those lol
That stereotype sounds like an A-hole if I'm to be honest, as the vast majority of MTBikers are great people, maybe that stereotype needs replacing

I haven't broken my collarbone and my bike isn't worth more than my car, but everything else is a YES!
