Video: I’m going to tell you are wrist blood pressure monitors accurate. There’s a few different ways to monitor your blood pressure at home and a wrist monitor is one of them. The other one is your traditional home upper arm monitor. So, is the wrist monitor as accurate or accurate at all? The other day I was riding my bike and I thought how cool it would be if I could take my blood pressure right now to see what it was. But how would I do that? The first thing that popped into my head was using a wrist monitor. I can remember seeing some runners with one and stopping to check their blood pressure along with their pulse. But are wrist blood pressure monitors going to give you an accurate reading? I did some research and found some interesting studies on the exact topic. I’ll also tell you a major mistake people are making when using a wrist monitor. A study published in 2016 in the Journal Hypertension monitored 271 people. 86% of them had blood pressure readings at least 5 mm Hg higher at the wrist compared to the upper arm. And get this, 75% of those had BP readings at least 10 mm Hg higher at the wrist compared to the arm. In 2010, the Journal of Clinical Hypertension, found significant differences between the arm and wrist monitors on 261 people. Some of the blood pressure readings were more than 10 mm Hg different.
In 2013, a study in Blood Pressure monitor used both wrist and arm monitors to measure blood pressure over a 24 hour period. Both systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings were significantly...

I've used wrist monitors, and if I didn't have high BP before using one I'm sure did after. One reading was 220/115. The second test 20 seconds later was 110/80. The third test was 222/120 , the fourth was 140/80 and the fifth test was 170/99. Same wrist, same position and all within 2-3 minutes of each other. I concluded that my BP was probably high but it was midnight and I did not know if I should risk dying in my sleep or spend $900 at the ER for an accurate check. If you comment and I don't return with a thumbs up then let it be known that I never liked or trusted wrist monitors. Frustrating! Thank you for confirming my suspicions about wrist monitors. I will speak with my doctor about this.

Cheers for the video content! Forgive me for butting in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you researched - Parlandealey Heart Durability Process (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a good exclusive product for learning how to balance your cholesterol and reduce blood pressure without the headache. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my friend after many years got great results with it.

Thank you for this video. But---- how do we know that the doctor's monitor is correct? I just came back from a doctor visit and when I asked to speak to the people who were in charge of calibration accuracy of the hospital's many many instruments, all I got was a blank stare! I have since raised a complaint with their "Patient Relations" department, but haven't heard back from them. Please note that many Pharmacies have arm type BP monitor stations that are free for regular customers to use. I took my wrist monitor with me and compared readings. They were pretty close. I just bought the exact arm monitor recommended by my doctor's office and it reads very close to my wrist monitor, but I do make certain that my upper arm and/or wrist is at heart level when I take readings. Last note: I have a spreadsheet for my BP that spans 21 years. The only two times that I got really high reading was when I was at this PARTICULAR Dr's office. In any other Dr's office, no problem. Hmmmm.

*Most diagrams show the 'wrist' monitor in the wrong place.* False and random readings WILL happen if placed near the wrist. The monitor has to be 3 to 4 inches away from the wrist. My upper arm and 'wrist' monitors always read within 2% of each other, usually less, sometimes total agreement.

Wrist monitors are very sensitive to battery quality. I have to change mine at least every month or maybe three weeks. Really weird results are often battery as well as time of day, arm position, a lot of variables here.

I do have it and the reason is it's cheaper than what the professional doctor has. The deviation is about 10 points higher.

So if the reading at the wrist is in normal range then your pressure should be lower.

So if the cuff is in lower level of the heart the bp may ve higher and if it is heart level it would be more accurate? Why is that ?? thanks You love your chanel

Hi, thanks for the compliment! Bp is higher when the cuff is below the heart because of hydrostatic pressure. The further the cuff is away from the heart, the hydrostatic pressure increases and the BP readings will be higher. My blog post describes it in more detail: bloodpressureexplained.com/blood-pressure-reading-with-the-arm-below-the-heart/ Best Regards, Kevin Garce

The lower number always seems too high on the wrist one and the readings go all over the place. I did two readings in 30 seconds. 144/93 then 127/82. Both times I was relaxed and seated for at least 4-5 minutes. At the doctor mine is almost always 115/75 so long as I’m not anxious. I’m skeptical on how accurate these are. I’ve cut my sodium in half and walk 45 minutes for 5 days a week. Yet the wrist one is always high.

Same.. the dentist always checks it with one of these..Now I get worried and go to the Doc who actually checks my blood pressure and it's always lower within the normal range than the wrist monitor.

Hi. I've been using the Omron Gold Wrist monitor for the past 1.5 years. It's consistently within 2 mmHg of my upper arm monitor which I trust. So, it's been accurate. I just published a review on it here in my website: bloodpressureexplained.com/omron-gold-wrist-blood-pressure-monitor-review/
