Steve's a tough cookie. He made those people shake in their figurative boots. Jack's tone shifted from sardonic to angry and fierce to soft and calm. His face went from tightened to loosened at the same time. That shows quite a range and capabilities.

Steve McGarrett *was* the character's name-- the *actor's* name was Jack Lord; and you're right, if he was nothing else, Steve McGarrett was a snappy dresser.

@skirts365: I believe he and his fellow officers dressed that way because of their status. High-ranking lawmen... therefore, dress according to rank.

It's a great episode. (Always loved hearing Steve snarl "Red China.") The only problem is the ending, which leaves everything up in the air. And did Danny REALLY have to fly all the way to Camp Lejeune, SC and back to have a 10 minute conversation with a USMC gunny? That mustn't have been an easy trip in the early 70's. Couldn't he just call him on the phone?

He played Raymond Parmel in "Bones Of Contention" from 1975. He escaped from San Quentin Prison in the show -- for which he was serving life imprisonment on first-degree murder.
