    This talk about living in a simulation reminds me of that TNG episode, 'Ship in a Bottle.' In the end, Professor Moriarty and his companion are tricked into believing that they are still in reality, but in fact, they were still in the simulation. Picard's statement about them, "They will live their lives, and never know any difference." I also like how Picard then muses that perhaps they too are in a simulation on someone else's desk. One thing is for sure, the simulation that Professor Moriarty was in was completely closed off from the 'real world', with no way for him to 'escape' that simulation. I suspect if we are living in a simulation, then we may be in a similar enclosed box physically closed off from the higher reality with no way of escaping.

    I think it is interesting to wonder that if we are in a simulation, would the creators have a sense of morality such that they consider virtual life to have the same rights as conscious beings outside the simulation? Would they have a digital afterlife for us? Or are we, to them, no more important than a bunch of flickering ones and zeros? Maybe they don't perceive our existence at all, because it's just an incomprehensibly massive sea of data. Maybe the purpose of their experiment has nothing at all to do with what we call life.

    If you are inside a simulation you cannot hack it. You are invested into it. Talking about breaking out of simulation makes no sense. If it’s a simulation then the outside world surely will have a different nature and you’ll require a body suited for that world to live. It’s like assuming Mario will become self aware and decides to break out of the gaming console. It’s not possible. Not only Mario doesn’t look like us but he doesn’t even have a body to live outside the box. He’s digital In a similar fashion we cannot even imagine what is outside the simulation Just enjoy your life and hopefully you’ll wake up one day in the different reality and realise that you’ve been dreaming all this time or had a VR experience to learn things

  • @MusicAutomation

    @MusicAutomation

    5 жыл бұрын

    There could be one way. Possibly the outside lifeforms that created the simulation (to try to understand who created them and why) exist as digital lifeforms. They can move fluidly between the real world and various simulations. When they transition from a simulation, they upload into robotic hardware. If this were the case, and we exist as digital information, perhaps there would be a way to hack into their robotic hardware and explore the "real" world.

    If the makers of the simulation don't want information going in and out and they want it hack proof, they'll simply have it detect when someone has hacked it (because, by definition, it knows what everyone is doing and what they're experiencing). It will stop the simulation, fix how it got hacked, and then resume the simulation. The "hack" would always fail.

  • @tejassingh5344

    @tejassingh5344

    Except to detect that they've been hacked, they would have to already be aware of that particular vulnerability in their system, and if they were aware of it, they wouldn't have gotten hacked in the first place. So a mathematical proof is really the only way to guarantee that no information can transit between the simulation and their "world".

Fascinating how given enough time different cultures and civilization's ideas can convergge.

    There has never been any more nor any less energy in the universe, ever. Our brain is a controller of sorts that sends/receives signals and we’ve been allocated resources to manipulate the flow of energy, but we’re not actually making anything- just redirecting it to do our bidding. This to me seems like a design choice. By simulating energy, wouldn’t that put a non-traversable barrier between us and our creator? As long as we are using simulated reason built by simulated stimuli, how would we ever prove that we are ACTUALLY in a simulation?

Yet the same goes for the amount of power that is needed to run a simulation and the type of power. Our means of generating energy is substantially getting more advanced. If you only know this theoretically, then you don't know it at all. Any less than a Dolphin knows what dry land is. To break out of a simulation, the dolphin would have to stop supposing what dry land would be like (using metaphors it is familiar with) and would have to actually make the jump - the experience the other reality. Humans don't need to do this, because we are able to experience other ways of being without physically making that shift. It's a leap of faith...

    A common misconception is that a simulation is only software based. One can influence bacterial and other growth and daily life and from bacterial pov they have no idea someone is modulating their reality. We can then simulate this bacterial world by manipulation parameters like growth medium concentration, introducing harmful chemicals, competition, space and many others. Now imagine doing so with worms. Then higher and higher organisms making sure we have some basic rules in place but are never observed. Even the environmental parameters can set to dynamic and we need mkt contol it aftrr a while. We the non participatory gods...lower organisms ..part of a simulation? based on our rules.

    OK! 😀"Today on our show, we have Some dude from the comment section! Let's get started! Do you think the comment section is a state of mind, a state of being...Or are we all CREATING the comment section as we go along in life? Do you think it's the destiny of all sentient creatures to one day experience the comment section? 😐 What if you could travel back in time through the comment section...Would you change anything about your previous comments? Do you believe that doing so would change who you are today, fundamentally, or will you always be the same "random dude in the comment section?" We're going to take a quick break and then we'll be back with Manish Kumar! The dude in the comment section! 😀

    The brain is already a simulator. So the right question would be do we simulate a simulated reality.

    This also solves the problem of simulating an infinite universe, if you only simulate the perception of the universe the simulation can be dynamically scaled up and down at a finite level.

    Can't help imagining that tunnel of light being the backdoor in or out. And heavy DMT inhalation = breaking through the 'filament' into a place that is 'really, real' or 'more real than this reality' hmm. The closed system model has a lot of implications too, such as allowing for some degree of free will, because why else would it be closed? I don't usually like the idea of the universe as a simulation because it still doesn't explain a lot, like are you trying to say we're stored in a virtual machine? I think this is a flawed idea because a 'machine' gives off the idea of rigidity and so it could easily break down or be damaged which would cause us to disappear and that is just ridiculous when considering the scale of the universe. Still, the use of the idea of a 'simulation' is a decent model to use when imagining what's out there when considering our limited understanding, or bottleneck of information processing.

    Had a strange thought the other night about this simulation thingy. Computer games/real physics... When in game, the out side world, say if you are in a dungeon, is just code, until you are viewing it because the computer doesn't need to display it on the screen, until you are actually looking at it. They say, about Quantum Physics, Nothing is there until somebody is looking/measuring it....It was a strange thought that in the moment blew my fucking mind. WHAT IF WE ARE.....Are any of you people real? The mind boggles...EDIT.. AM I REAL?

    I can get behind saying the universe behaves like a simulation. But saying there are creators, source code and a computer responsible for it is very speculative.

    Prior to the movie "The Matrix" I remember once or twice perhaps thrice, someone mentioning that they thought we live in a situation. After the movie this futile existential exercise is idiotic. Bottom line we either live in a simulation or we don't. Is unfalsifiable either way. Like God is unfalsifiable either way. I am in the camp of we don't . So what right? Right. Exactly.

    Indeed, it's effectively just as likely that the simulator universe is also simulated. George addresses this in the q&a of his SXSW talk. And nothing about the simulation argument makes claims to unreality or metaphysics.

    That's just like asking what's the point of contemplating reality whatsoever. It's in our nature first of all, we want to know the answers even if they're out of reach. Two, ideas like these are very fun to play with because they can alter a person's perspective on life and therefore change their behavior and attitude towards it. And if we are living in a simulation, then our attitudes towards all kinds of things would change, like religion, culture, science, philosophy etc. And if this simulation were to be "hackable" then thatd be very interesting as well and would be good to know about so one could somehow use it to their advantage to advance further in life

    So if the universe is a simulation then who created it? Are they a simulation too, created by another even more powerful entity? Where does it end? Seems dangerously close to just believing that God created everything.
