    I love your shows, but I'm not going to buy multiple dryers just because I don't want to push a button a few times. It's way cheaper to make a chart for drying temps and times for different filament, print that out, and tape it to the front of the dryer.

    I have the Eibois Easdry and for drying it seems to work very well, but the one thing it lacks is the one thing that drives me NUTS on ALL these dryers- loading. The placement of the holes is always either on the hinged lid, where it tugs and slacks when you open and close the lid, or on the body at the back making feeding tough or impossible, or on a removable lid which is just insane to imagine loading two spools at a time. I propose loading up front, like on the AMS, and simply route the tube under the dryer and out the back. IMO loading should take one hand. I wish these companies spent time with their designs in actual use to see that the loading is just terrible across the board.

  • @joeking433

    What seems to me to be the ideal way to use a dry box is to use it with the printer at the time. You take a spool of old filament that might have water in it stick it in the dry box until the filament is dry and then run the filament out of the dry box which has bearings the spool rotates on into your printer. Then you keep the dry box that runs off a humidistat connected to your printer. That way you only need one dry box per printer. I'm looking at the Polymaker Polydryer. It seems to be the best for that purpose. Are any other dry boxes suited for this purpose? (The PolyDryer is sold out)

    Hey, I went for the GratKit Firefly as my first dryer and it's...underwhelming. Temperature is always off (about 10°C to high, which is an issue for some filaments), the one filament hole at the back is a stupid design and flaw and it is so damn flimsy. Is the S2 (without fan, I would add some holes instead) better? It actually doesn't need to get to 70°C, if it does 60 I'm fine. I only want to dry one spool before and during prints.

  • @ThePrintHouse

    haha no worries. partly because I have a youtube set that I want to uphold for the viewer, partly because I use so many rolls and never know what I need when (opening the bags is a hassle and they make a lot of mess when I have 30+ bags laying around at any given time), and partly because I use filament so quickly it rarely has time to go bad...especially PLA it can usually be printed fairly well even after a couple weeks laying out. There are some more reasons, but I agree if it can be stored better then I would recommend. I would definitely call this more of a do as I say not as I do kind of thing hahaaha

    The FixDry, in the manual, even states the thing doesn't have a temperature sensor. So, it's running a programmed loop that can get up to 70C (or more based on testing others have done), destroying your filament. Eibos motor is only rated for 1500 hours. They include a spare, but they don't yet list the motor for sale. They alao say to refer to instructions that come with the motor...but wasn't. They include 4 o rings, i think to replace the ones that drive the rollers, but i can find no instructions on how to install them, i think it's a full teardown. So, assembly was simple, step by step in the docs. Operation is alao well explained. But docs lack maintenance items, and they need to list the parts, especially the motor, on the website. Hopefully that will be solved sooner than later.

    Rotating a filament spool is a feature needed in every filament dryer. Those without it end up getting hot spots, so one area of the spool ends up dryer, and sometimes damaged, while the other side ends up untouched. This is why the Eibos rotates, even drying, and why the heat vents don't aim directly at the spool itself, to avoid hotspots.

  • @ThePrintHouse

    @ThePrintHouse

    3 ай бұрын

    I can't remember exactly what I said about the eibos, but I suspect it was that I don't think the rotation is necessary. With the heat deflectors, I'd think that is enough, but I certainly do love the rotating spool for the extra comfort of no hot spots.

    I went through two of these fixdry dryers and in my experience they suck big time. Biggest complaint is the display flickering randomly - I have seen it in on your sample as well. Second one is the time this thing take to get to the set temperature. The first one took an hour to get to 55C from approximately 20C ambient. The second one did not even reach 50C within an hour. This made me send both units back. I will most likely stay away from this brand...

    Stay away from the Gratkit dryer. I bought one for Black Friday and ended up returning it. The buttons on the front are massively confusing (long press, double press, etc) and I had to constantly go to the WiFi app to control it. The LCD panel doesn't turn off...ever. Also, the filament hole is in a HORRIBLE spot which makes it unusable. I also had the dryer lose it's connection to the Tuya smart app, probably because I kept unplugging it because the LCD screen turn off, and it was a major pain to get it reconnected. Their guts are good, and they have a solid core dryer and fan, but they have a LONG way to go for the fit and finish on the product.

    Filament dryers are one of those things where a common $50 dryer will work, but for someone that prints regularly, I think an advanced box has value. The $150 eibos actually is a decent value when you see it can try 2 rolls at once. For a common no frills $50 box that price is $100 when you consider needing 2 of them to equal 1 eibos. But I do see where you're coming from. At the end of the day, I really think everyone needs something, regardless of what it is.
