Are The Nintendo Switch NES Controllers Worth Buying?

Ойындар

Nintendo has released the NES Controllers that they were selling to online subscription members. These controllers are designed to work with the NES games that are a part of the online service and are good representations of the original NES controllers. For 60 dollars though and the need to subscribe to the online service, is it really worth buying these controllers when alternatives exist on the market?

Fun fact: The original NES controllers, NES Classic controllers, and this wireless controller all use exactly the same D-Pad and buttons. They're basically interchangeable, you could take a D-pad out of one of these and put it in an original NES controller from 1985 with no issues.

You can always leave the left controller on, which is probably the best D-pad you could get in portable mode for 2D games. The plus and minus button seemed to be mapped to start and select, and the home button is on the right joy con.

Yup! It’s amazing and very Nintendo to also work in a unique way whenever they’re connected to the Switch itself. I’ve been experimenting with mine and find that it’s actually incredibly comfortable to play in handheld mode with both connected. Weird how the right dpad becomes the home button: ALL the dpad. But useful nonetheless.

You can press SR while in one of the NES games to get to the home screen with 1 button press. On top of that, SL works as the screen capture button. You missed that, saying getting to the home screen was a bit of a process. Just thought I'd fill everyone in.

The use case for me is to play games with my soon to be 3 year old son. He can't really play with a standard modern controller yet, but he is having less of an issue learning with these. The D-pad is very sturdy on the new stuff. But mine reads right/left pushes much more than down. so whenever I try to squat slide in Mario 1 it will usually register as move right. There is something to be said for having a little bit of slop in the controls. Feels like it adds finesse.

That would break game compatibility - some games use the directional buttons AS actual buttons. If a game does that, then it may fail with a d-pad since you can only press at most 2 'buttons' at once that way.
