Klopp took over a Liverpool team who had finished 6th and were sitting in mid-table when Rodgers was sacked. Jurgen took this team to a Europa League final and League Cup final in that season. The next 2 seasons they finished 4th in the league and then reached the CL final. The next season, they finish 2nd in the league and win the CL. This year they will most likely win the League and will come close in the CL. Klopp is a far better manager than Guardiola or anyone out there because none of them have made an average team into a world-class team.

Pep took over Barca when they finished 25 points behind the champions the previous season and won the Quadruple in his first year in charge. People seem to forget that. And by the way I think Klopp is the best manager in the world but put some respect on Guardiola’s name, the man changed football, there was no other team pressing from the front and passing out from the goalkeeper before he started to do that. Now everyone has started to do that including Klopp!

Got rid of R10 and a few other players unfortunately made great signings and gave xavi/iniesta the reigns. Also he won the sextuple the only team to ever do it. I started going to watch Liverpool play towards the end of their domination in 1990. Of course, in 1990 I didn't think at the time their domination was coming to an end because Dalglish was manager but we saw how things turned out from February 1991 onwards (resignation of Dalglish). Graeme Souness came in April 1991 and broke up a great team far too quickly and Liverpool never quite recovered. Souness also significantly changed Liverpool's style of play which is surprising as he was a Liverpool legend. As someone who watched that team extensively, I can give an assessment of the Liverpool of the 1980s and today under Klopp. There are many similarities. What Klopp has brought back is the work ethic off the ball and the closing down of the opposition. The Liverpool of that era were the best team off the ball, once they lost it they "hunted in packs" to get it back as quickly as possible. Ian Rush was called the first line of defense because he chased and harried from the centre forward position, which set the tone, Klopp has done the same. In that era it was called closing down and hunting in packs, today its called gegenpressing, the principle is exactly the same. Also, that Liverpool team always played a high line, prepared to leave two on two, play the offside trap, every now and again would get caught out like against Independiente in the 1984 World club cup final but with guys like Hansen, Lawrenson, Gillespie, they felt the defenders were quick enough to make up the ground. The reason Liverpool look their best with Van Dyk and Gomez at the back is they have the pace to recover. That’s why Gomez is considerably better than Lovren in that position. They had full backs who scored goals. Steve Nicol scored 46 goals in his time there, more goals than many midflelders (to be fair he played some of his matches as a right or left midfielder). Alan Kennedy scored in the 1981 European cup final, Phil Neal scored in the 1984 European cup final, so full backs always contributed heavily to attacks, giving the feeling they were relentless, just like today’s full backs. By the late 1980s Dalglish acquired the most exciting attacking trio in English football history in Barnes, Beardsley and Rush (Aldridge in 1988), today we have Salah, Mane and Firminho. Finally, like those Liverpool teams they can win in different ways. They can out run you, out pass you, attack from many different angles, master of the one two combos. And let’s not forget because Liverpool played such a high line so often, Grobbelaar loved to come off his line and sweep up, now they call them “sweeper keepers”. There is one difference I see between Liverpool today and Liverpool of the 1980s. That Liverpool midfield had extremely hard working players but that period had definitely more gifted players in the engine room. Guys like Rohnny Whelan, Ray Hougton, Steve McMahon, Jan Molby, before them Terry McDermott, Jimmy Case, Graeme Souness, Ray Kennedy. They created and scored a lot more goals than today’s guys. I feel that Klopp wants to use Oxlade Chamberlain and Nabi Keita a lot more because they work hard and have the ability to create and score more goals but they keep getting injured! Assuming Liverpool win the league this season, I feel in years to come Liverpool’s midfield will become more expansive to go with the hard work. Once Klopp’s time comes to an end, will there be something in place to ensure Liverpool continue to play the same way? That’s what happened from Shankly, to Paisley, to Fagan then Dalglish over a twenty year period. That will be Liverpool’s challenge going forward.

bookies only look at squad value when it comes to the Champions League, never at performance in the competition itself or consider things like how daunting the history of the different clubs in the competition can be for rival teams and how hostile/supportive the home crowds will be in the second leg. Supporters and players know these things play a vital role in influencing big games in the Champions League, but bookies never do.

This is the most pertinent point about Liverpool. Unfortunately, anybody that supports Liverpool can't really see it in a far more objective way. Their parochial vision on the way that they see themselves as serial champions, albeit winning their less recent UCL title and their most recent titles to date, the unequivocally state that this team is the best assemblage to date ever? What's made Liverpool into "Liverpool" is Klopp. It cannot be underestimated that this German mindset to football - efficiency, power, control, possession - the infallibility of it - or Klopp's obsession with "Gesamtkunstwerk" no-one is going to believe that the team is going to self-destruct at any given point. BUT, it's not an infallible team but it takes serious firepower or try to play asymmetrically in order for them to be caught out that they will lose. AND, to become a seriously great team, they need to win succession of league titles. They're on course to win their first since the last century. And that's the primary reason why the dominance of Man City is why people state that it's a much more talented, all-round team than Liverpool's. The firepower in midfield and attack corrosively strips Liverpool's.

5:54 Because most money being received by the bookies is backing Citeh. We weren't backed to eliminate Messi's Barcelona either... 6:43 Winning trophies brings with it maturity, mental strength, determination and know-how. The gaffer doesn't need to remind them to sustain focus on one match at a time. They are in a division in which a club-record 97-point haul last year wasn't enough. A division in which an opponent that lost more matches pipped them to the title. They are now a superbly balanced team where even those outside of the first-XI are primed to contribute without compromising the quality of football and winning mentality. Part of Klopp's genius is keeping every squad member motivated to continuously improve. Nothing is left to chance and the gaffer now essentially has a never-say-die team operating with machine-like efficiency in pursuit of only one result: the win. 7:50 Spot on. One of the reasons Klopp's recruitment process bears the hallmarks of romantic courtship is that he probes deep into the character of the human that underpins the player. A number of players have been rejected and even ejected from the club on this basis. 8:41 It will be a fascinating match with Citeh out to prove a point. More than John Stones' career-highlight clearance to save a goal by 11.7 millimetres, the takeaway from last year's reverse was that Liverpool got outworked. If I'm not mistaken, B.Silva covered the greatest distance of any player at the Etihad on the night. If they remain true to their identity, namely intensity, the quality and never-say-die mentality will do the rest. The answer to the question in the video title is: Not yet. They are hitting some unprecedented peaks, but perennial winning is needed to dislodge the great Liverpool editions of yore. Keep winning, lads! YNWA

Imagine being in the dressing room as a striker, knowing that Liverpool haven't lost a Premier League game this season. Plus Salah and Mane are expected to score at least 2 a game so you'll need to somehow put 2 or 3 past Van Dijk and Allisson in order to win. The more they win, the more daunting they seem to the opposition.

Oh my god people are so dumb. Of course this team is the best team that have ever played in the league. They break record after record, and its not the other teams who are bad, its just Liverpool who is way to good. Man Citys record breaking team got 100 points in 2017/2018 and 98 in 2018/2019 and now Liverpool is far ahead. End of discussion. Dont even bother

Soooooooooooooo to finish answering the initial question, yes, they can be, but it will probably be very close. 1978-79 is the best Liverpool team so far; 68 points in the First Division under the old system (42 matches, 2 points for a win) will always be the record. Dalglish, Johnson, Ray Kennedy, Terry Mac, Graeme Souness, and Jimmy Case could score from anywhere at anytime. Clem, Hansen, Tommo, Phil Neal, Crazy Horse, and Alan "They Shot the Wrong" Kennedy conceded 16 goals in 42 matches.

Liverpool supporter of nearly 50 years. Is this the best Liverpool ever? All over the pitch, their technical ability, quite possibly, certainly up with our best. The best ever? No, win the league, keep winning the league, then we will talk about the best ever. Being old, my opinion is old school, Champions league is great, but, a bit ridiculous that we can win that and not prove that we are even the best in our country. For me, the league is everything, it's the foundation; I appreciate football has changed, however, it's not stopped the Manchester and London clubs winning multiple prem league titles, and it shouldn't stop us.... This Liverpool team under Klopp doesn't buy superstars all across the board. They make most of them and add final pieces to the team, case in point VVD and Allison. Even those trades wouldn't happen if LFC didn't sell Coutinho for a boatload of cash. Mane and Salah cost less than £40 million each. Andy Roberston was £8 million. Firmino was £29 million. Even VVD at £75 million looks like a bargain. No defender in football history has had that big an impact so quickly on a team than VVD had when he arrived at LFC.

Klopp is totally different class to Pep. Klopp's done it at clubs that have had very little money to spend like Dortmund, where as Pep's only been at clubs who have had a bottomless pit. IMO Klopp will go down as one of the all time greats, he gets good players (like Mane, Salah, Robertson..amongst others) and turns em into world class players. Also he doesn't come across as a dictator like Pep is Liverpool and Klopp owe a big thank you to another great manager Brendan Rogers. If it wasn't for his superb coaching of Suarez, Coutinho and Sterling (who were all sold for big money) Klopp wouldn't have had the money to spend like he has done.

Wijnaldum - bought from relegated Newcastle, Robertson - bought from relegated Hull, Salah - didn't do anything at Chelsea, Mane and VVD bought from mid table Southampton. Gomez was bought from Charlton and TAA from the youth. Firmino was at Hoffenheim. None were at 'big' teams like Barca, Real, Bayern etc as established superstars of the game and now are competing for the 'best' players in the world.

The Some of the double winning teams of 1972-73, 1975-76, 1976-77, 1985-86 were pretty legit, but it's hard to compare different era's of a sport with a another.
