18 Road trails in Fruita, CO is a classic mtb destination there's no disputing that, yet is this trail network really as good as it's popularity would lead you to believe? Join me today as I ride 18 Road again for the first time in years and make up my mind once and for all about this place - is it GOATed or overrated?

Oh man… the friendship and MTB origin memories we have here are etched in stone for me 🤘🏼 We still need to finish that “180s for 180 subs” video we started in Fruita 😂 You have a few more subs now, but you still haven’t changed from how genuinely awesome you are 🤜🏼🤛🏼 LFRHGStromboli!

Good to see ya on a bike! Its been awhile!
I have to agree with others. Loving the new/old Alex. It’s your genuine stoke that really makes your video’s great. I never realized it was missing but now that it’s back…so, so good. You truly are living by your own motto. Keep it up.🤘
I actually live right next to these trails, the north Fruita Bike trails are some of my favorite to just go hit and have a good time
Man your on it with the uploads 🙏🤟🤟🤟🤟🙏💪
Holy Shit - Shane - About time !!!! Miss your posts. And obviously great videos as usual !!!!
Thanks for posting this. Brought back great memories riding this while visiting with RC Gold! Great to see Crashing on a bike. We should all meet up in Sedona MTB Fest !
Nice seeing you two back shredding together @thecrashingdad / @singletracksampler 🔥🍻🍻
The scenery and landscapes on your rides are always so incredible! I need to start going to ride in other places. Most riding in my vicinity are either flat, all in the woods or full on DH parks with lifts.
I road the 18 Road trails 20 years ago. The trails were about 12" to 18" wide and everyone was really uptight about "keeping it single" meaning they didn't want you to ride outside that narrow trail footprint (which makes sense, those narrow trails were incredible). The trails are a lot more washed out and wide now. They still look great though.
I've been following you since the beginning and it's good to have you back. Keep up the stoke, ride on brother.
What a cool tidbit about your first gamble. I recently went back to rewatch you first vids and was shocked at the quality. That's just we were all used to watching back then lol. No one was rocking a gimble back in the OG days lol
People always ask how to spice up the trails they always ride.. this is a great way lol!! Awesome video man ❤️
Less go I love that you are posting more, I missed ya
Great memories at 18 roads. So much flow. Adding in Kokopelli makes it a awesome day. Guessing that will be the next video.
Fun fact… I LOVED doing no-pedal rides down PBR, and one time I brought out a newer rider and bet him I could drop him on PBR if I don’t pedal and he pedals as much as he wants. He ended up being much faster than I expected and I actually PR’d with an under 5min time without pedaling 😅 … then I went back the next day and shaved off more time by pedaling lol but the no-pedal runs will teach you SO MUCH about free speed!!
Loved 18 Road - my first trail system in the US! Big up to Troy and all the peeps building and maintaining the trails and the community out there.
At least 3 parts of that challenge were the "hardest part." Lol love your enthusiasm, man! He's really good at pumping. If you notice, he pumped every turn and potential jump. I doubt he even used the brakes at all. I saw him lean that bike real hard into those s turns.
I rode this many years ago. I just remember a monster climb at the beginning more than anything. I rode this the day after Kokopelli Loops, so maybe that is why I thought 18 was sort of boring. Great ride and vid.
You guys were ripping! I like doing the outer loop (Western Zippety) on a hot summer day - wicked fun chill spin and you'll have the whole place to yourself
I love the 18 Road trails! Joe's Ridge and Mojos are my favorite trails there.
Nice video man! Those trails look fast and flowy.
Nice vid man! This is sick 💪
Lived in GJ/Fruita for three years and always enjoyed 18 Rd but out of the ~6,000 miles I rode in those three years I’d guess less than 300 were at 18 Rd. 100% a must do trail system if you’ve never been but better options closer to town imo

Koko Loops and Lunch Loops. Rode 18 after those and it was sort of boring. I just remember it being about 95 degrees in the dust and sweating my nuts off. Lol. I still enjoyed it.
@thecrashingdad dude, you're killing it on that pumping challenge! And adding some steez to your riding! You're definitely getting faster, man! It's fun to see!

🤷🏽😅 thanks man - the No-pedal challenge is something I think I’ll take to more trails! Adds more challenge without adding more danger 😂
Good Stuff, man...always entertaining
HOLY COW that trail system looks insane. I ride for views like this man, very jealous. Felt the second hand stoke though so thanks for that!
Great Vid. You should consider micing your riding partners, like you did with your redemption CO series. Would have been good to hear more of the conversation w the Crashing Dad.
The friendships you have make me want to have a friend, but having moved across the country, and doing so right before the pandemic 😅 I need to get my butt out riding…. But old man winter also has other plans. Love to see the stoke Alex 👊 keep riding buddy
I'm still thinking about the steak😆 Another sick vid added to the catalog 🤘🤘🤘 Thanks again!
Sarlacc trail is worth seeing next time. You need to go around behind the ridge then up. You're above the whole 18 road system so the view is great and the trail is fun!

Unfortunately it’s closed (seasonally) - but yeah, Sarlacc is rad 🤘🏼
I sure do miss living in the Grand Valley. They have Awesome trails. I rode the Kokopelli trail system the most. Good mix. Happy Trails 🤟 Always Hot Tomato for the win.
You are so lucky that you have these types of amazing roads for cycling. I have some beautiful roots for cycling but these are very big roads. I love to ride in a very single road like yours!
That outhouse is where I acciedetnly threw my Garmin Edge 530 in to. NO way I was going to attempt to get it....Just waived goodbye... HAHA These are by far your best videos dude. This format for you is dialed. Your talk track is always so good. its one of your many skills.

Gonna double down on this, it's honestly so hard to enjoy POV riding when it's not your local... but I'm always super stoked for a new Sampler video no matter where, it's like a podcast on wheels.
Stoke meter pegged, Sampler! Good to have Sheyn along, good dude.
That looks like some amazing riding spots out there my friends.
So good to see the crashing dad again, miss his videos.

That looks like an amazing and fun trail-ride. Did you do a loop or shuttle back? Visiting next week 5/15-5/18
PBR is one of the best trails everywhere. So cool to see you doing trails in my neighborhood. 😊
One of the first helmet cam point of view 18 Road vids was of Joe's Ridge. It was long before GoPro, or similar cameras. I would watch that video about every day while I was at work. It was very low resolution and bounced around like crazy but what a great video.

Awesome Video!!!!
Epic...looks so awesome!
Alex have you ridden Phil's World in Cortez yet?
I love those ridges!
Those trails look so fun!
I had friends tell me 18 Road wasn't worth visiting from Denver, then I did it and had so much fun! It would get boring if you rode it every week, but it's definitely worth the visit!

It's worth it if you're also riding other stuff in the area like Kokopelli loops or Lunch Loops. 18rd is the best place to camp in the area
18 Road is a great place to go camping with friends of various abilities. Zippity is the only trail I really love though. The others are fun, but sort of meh too. Love doing some morning laps, chilling and eating for a bit and then some afternoon laps.
That's my bucket ride dream destination right there!
Awesome 🤘👍
Depends on your style, great if you like green/blue flow trails
Nice Ride there 👌
Just gotta get out to 18 road for Fruita-ween in costume!
its amazing there. Super fun.
my kinda trail....thumbs up.....maybe one of these days I make my way over from TX to CO for 18 RT..
That boy Shane can pump!
Hot Tomato is always a treat after the ride. Small business smashing it!
That looks like a cool ride for a noob...like me at 74, do thay allow e bikes there? If so where's the trailhead? Thanks for the great video!
looks like a fun trail for a ye ole hardtail!
Your fork pressure problem can easily be attributed to altitude. Pump it up in Florida and then don’t check the pressure until you’re in Colorado at 10k+ and you’ll have issues.
@bdubs1967
Жыл бұрын
Not likely. The air is in a rigid container, not a potato chip bag. FTR, most people don't ride at 10k feet. Most trails he rides are between 5k-8k when he's here in CO. Fruita elevation is 4.5k. So, if it does affect, its not going to be noticeable.
@brassmnky33

@@bdubs1967 lol, what does a rigid container have to do with anything?

@@bdubs1967 bike bros coming with “facts” with no scientific basis. Here is a tire pressure chart. Notice it takes very little altitude change to make a difference. Altitude (ft.) Gotta check tire pressure going from Denver into mountains as well. 5k feet of elevation has huge impact on pressure and tires have way less pressure in them. Hadn’t thought about suspension tho… I’ll pay attention next time I’m at altitude with my bike.
@rupedog
Жыл бұрын
Temperature will effect suspension pressure, but not really altitude if left sealed (I. E. Don't open the valve) as a rigid container. If u don't understand that, don't try. Tyres however, are not a rigid vessel, so temp and altitude can effect... But altitude still minimal
Het Alexander, whats your camera setup? Trying to start a YT channel myself and want high qual video.
It would be awesome with skydio drone. Btw, you look like @heathermunive brother 🤭
That western slope / grand valley is such a great area. I remember that video you posted of your crashing on The Ribbon trail….ouch…

'holy canolli' 😄... If Alex ever gets in a fight, I expect to see 'kapow', 'clunk' & 'biff' come up on the screen🤟😄... Such a wholesome guy... Like the past.... Or Canada
I knocked myself out on Kessel Trail. I think I hooked a pedal but lost about 6 hours of time and never really figured out what happened. Great place to ride though.
That trail looks amazing
Crazy I don't go right on these Trails I live like 2 minutes away from them
18 road is goated imo. Favorite trail is zippidy
Mute the volume and play some music on your phone and enjoy
I would ride that trail, Looks FUN FUN FUN. No Boulders! Are Motorcycles allowed on that trail
If you find 18 road trails too tame and flowy, I suggest riding them on a gravel bike. Anything short of Zippity is doable on drop bars, and the mellower ones are actually more fun, especially PBR

It's fine. Stay home if you don't like 'em. More for me! 😃
18rd is good trails, but definitely not bucket list trails. I personally like Kokopelli loops better, especially Horsethief Bench, more interesting trails and AMAZING scenery. And remember you're an hour from Moab.

Difficult trails? Nah. Super fast and flowy , yes. The way the system is designed you can get in tons of laps or shuttle the road. The best part no hikers !!
Neither! Just plain fun and must do. Definitely Not GOAT.

I always found the hype around 18rd to be kinda funny, yes they're good trails, but just across the interstate you have Kokopelli loops with even better trails and absolutely stunning scenery.
