I just had this talk with my buddy the other night. His wife bought a stilleto, and then returned it because she thought it was illegal. Was happy to educate them about the legality of switchblades in our state. No restrictions whatsoever, carry whatever you want. She bought the knife again, and I sold them one of my OTFs the same night. They were geeking out over my knife collection over dinner, I brought out a ton of stuff for them to check out. I think I might have even got them into the hobby. Time will tell!

I love this! Mr. Doug is a fantastic human. I loved the history about the knife laws and who it was targeting (I knew some of it, but didn't know all of it). I am going to do some research and explore about this. Keep it George and the filming team. This was great.

Excellent video. Knives are fun to collect, but they are also essential and life-saving tools. Doug Ritter and others who are working diligently to repeal illogical (and yes, racist) knife bans are doing important and necessary work to protect our rights.

@chuni2753 Instead of holding your prejudiced attitude toward people who are lay knife users and are asking questions, it would be more productive to answer their questions or point them towards resources instead of posting a comment making fun of their ignorance, which only serves to give people a negative perception of that the knife enthusiast community are unreceptive and condescending pricks towards people who may benefit from our understanding of knife laws.

And anyone that knows anything about knives knows there is no reason for them to be illegal. Almost any folding knife opens with one hand. Well except slip joints, I haven’t figured out how to do that yet.

If a person of color is using the knife, there will always be a made up reason the knife is illegal. Until recently my state prohibited several types of blade shapes without actually defining those shapes anywhere in law so that it could be selectively enforced. In NYC, even a Victorinox Tinker is a "gravity knife" because it's affected by gravity.

A Knife story- Today, I stopped for Gas in Capital Hill, Downtown Seattle area. As I was gassing up, I spotted a young lady wearing a big fixed blade, in a nylon sheath on her belt. I said hello in a friendly way and inquired about her knife. Hey cool knife, is that a Bowie? She stopped and smiled, she said sheepishly, It’s a big kitchen knife, and motioned as if to pull it out and show me. I said No no no, you keep that thing down there. Then I said, well it’s a nice looking knife but I have some bad news.. Oh she said? Yes, although your instincts are correct, you do have a right to carry this according to the Supreme Court, and the state of Washington, and King County, but you do not have that right according to Seattle.. Wow, that’s a bunch of B****SH*T ! She said. I said yes it is, you can go to jail for a year just for carrying that and not bothering anyone. What? She said and began to hide it under her hoodie.. I said nope can’t do that either, that’s a concealed weapon, big no no, you need permission from the state to conceal arms. WFT! Yes, you should probably remove that and put it in your grocery bag until you get home, but even THAT is illegal. Wow.. she said. Yes, you can only have an exposed knife, that folds, and is less than 3.5 inches long I can’t believe it, she says, that’s probably why everyone was staring at me so weird… I said, Imagine If I told you that women have a right to vote, but not in Seattle Or you have a right to be a Buddhist, but not in Seattle etc etc.. That’s just bizarre she said. She said she had to go. I said be careful out there…

With 5 Minutes of Practice, you can open a Standard Folder faster than an Auto. The Knife World doesn’t have to Worry about UK Knife Laws (Ban on all but Slip Joints) Until they Ban Firearms… The Government always has to be Banning Something “It’s the Worst”, “Think of the Children”.

Depends on where you're at. However, most states consider them a deadly weapon by nature. So any state that doesn't have constitutional carry laws you would be required to get a concealed carry license or "open carry" the knife. This isn't legal advice but unless you've done something wrong that will get you searched by police who's gonna know?

NO it is not our responsibility as law abiding citizens to follow uncostitutional so called laws but to defy them and remove from office those who would go against constitutional and God given rights, as far as I see it (and how it should be seen) is that knives of any kind are no different than guns of any kind where it is provisioned within the constitution we as American citizens have the right to keep and bear those arms period and shall NOT be infringed PERIOD.

I don't think balisong origins are up for debate. They were originally French, where it was brought to other countries like the Phillipines, and Benchmade (previously Pacific Cutlery) brought them up to modern USA standards in the 80s. Now there are a myriad of production, semi-production, and custom makers who have brought them 2 steps forward again with even more iterative improvements. Now there are a ton of perfectly machined, well balanced flippers with all of the aesthetic, customization, and function that you'd expect from all of the high end folders that the non-balisong people would appreciate but are otherwise unaware of because of how the balisong niche is bifurcated.
