Can't play if games crash all the time. My steam deck is definitely overheating. I ordered the "good one" but realized it would come from China so in a month's time. I decided to order the replacement fan from ifixit after. Yeah, this is becoming a real problem. I tried multiple things and yes, my SD is out of warranty. I noticed one thing: "outside" the steam app it last longer. I guess it accepts higher temperatures? Yes, I tried lowering the specs and even manually setting up the GPU. =(

Really liked the video, the game I am having issues is actually Cyberpunk, so this was informative. I have a SteamDeck OLED, does it make a difference? I can usually play with no problem, but sometimes I do notice it gets really noisy, hot, and in some ocasion it does freeze/shut off. I have the SteamDeck settings, so im not pushing it further that it should, I think. Could a backplate help? Should I contact Steam? I assumed it is a demanding game, and I only have issues sometimes, but I am worried newer games could take a greater toll, seeing you can run Cyberpunk with no issues on the anterior version of the console.

I would like to run the Steam Deck with OC. But since heat is a very big problem there, I think a combination of thermal cooling pads with the Jsaux v2 and a small additional fan can make a difference. However, I have read that many components are no longer cooled properly if you use the Jsaux v2 with the holes. Is this serious information? I mean, because the holes on the fan ensure that the air is not pushed out properly from the top. Another idea of mine is that you can replace the thermal paste inside the vapor deck with liquid metal paste and replace the original vapor cooler with a better one? So I have ideas of what I can do. But no decision. Any suggestions?

One question, my steam deck gets really hot when playing a good game, and the battery drains really quickly, but the biggest problem is the fact that the smell coming from the deck smells like something is burning, could this be because I haven’t really used it for extended periods of time or should I contact steam, barring in mind that I don’t think it’s seen 24 hours of activity yet as I spend between 1 and 2 hours a night playing on it and I have had it for less than a month brand new?

@@JasonWitmerYT hi, thank you for your reply, I decided to plug my steam deck in to charge and then I just played contraband officer for 3 hours straight and I after about an hour the deck reached a constant temperature and it smelt really bad and then the fan kicked in and a massive cloud of something was blowing out the vent, I think possibly to much thermal grease was applied and it had dried up, so I think it should be fine, I did contact steam and they said it isn’t too common but it does occasionally happen

Let me list the cooling things I did to my steam deck... JSAUX v1 back case with exposed aluminum plate No name SSD copper heatsink to cool the WD SN740 SSD, which the bare drive DOES overheat during heavy transfer. This is just to delay the thermal throttling long enough that most operation would have been done. Removal of the EMI shield. Copper Cooldeck from youtuber Low Cost, and have it mated to JSAUX backplate via a thinner thermal pad. Drilling and grinding vent holes at the fan intake, making my back plate like V2's vent with V1's metal plate. You mean I get this thing to play game from steam??? I thought it is for competitive modding, which is the game... I did advise my friends... I'm screwing around for fun, they should just get JSAUX V2 backplate if they want a bit better cooling and lower fan noise to get similar results without spending a lot of time and money. Cooling does help components last longer, IIRC there's a industry saying that by lowering temperature 10C degrees, you double your component life.

I've never liked deceptive advertising claiming a product does something it doesn't. In the case of game console coolers like these, they claim to increase performance and make the console cooler. Yes, most "good" ones will make the Steam Deck cooler. But they won't increase performance. What wasn't mentioned in the video was that the Steam Deck was designed with a thermal performance range and as long as it remains in that range, its good to go. The coolers don't really affect cooling enough to allow overclocking nor would you want to if you even could.

You're entitled to your opinion, but what will those 10 degrees get you? More performance? Truly, what do you stand to benefit by seeing the little number in the corner go down by 5-10? In my mind, it's another thing to charge/plug in and strap on to your portable device for no real life benefits. Theoretically, keeping temps a little lower MIGHT extend the life of the device, but unless you are cranking cyberpunk 2077 24 hours a day for years, i dont think its worth the time, money, effort to use any external coolers.
