@@gormenfreeman499I'm assuming that's because you think it will clog your arteries. Something that never happened before the invention of "vegetable" oil. Think of cholesterol as a (reversible) patching material for arteries that are weakened by vegetable oil consumption causing lipid peroxidation. And so cholesterol is keeping those weakened arteries from rupturing under your heart's pressure. Now that cholesterol blockage is saving you from instant death. Moral of the story is to look for the cause, not blame the symptom. ❤

I have seen more than enough evidence (actual research beyond just youtube videos) on this topic already. I see no reason to fear all seed oils and the people fearmongering, present no valid evidence and are usually pushing something else. Beyond this, I almost exclusively cook with avocado oil out of convenience so I don't really care. Besides that I use sesame oil, show me something against sesame oil and I'll certainly take a look.

I was actually a Ray Peat fan (and before him, the Carnivore diet). I now realize after some deep work on myself and some introspection and an open mind, why they adhere to their beliefs as strongly as they do: They dissociate mechanistic "evidence" from the bigger picture (which is why they poo-poo epidemiology in one fell swoop). But the more I look at the data, the more I realize their principles just do not bear out in the bigger picture, and dissociating mechanistic evidence from epidemiology is like mistaking the pixel for the bigger picture. I must say, yours is easily the most eye-opening channel on KZread I've had the pleasure of discovering. I count myself blessed. Keep doing what you are doing.

In addition, I would like to add something -- I was an active duty military troop, power lifting competitor, very strong for my body size and I considered myself "fit". I was an active partaker of the keto diet as well. Even with all my physical activity and watching my body fat and adhering what I thought was a good diet... even with all of that, I became pre-diabetic. One day I watched the film "What the Health?" My life began to change after that . I then started to watch more videos on KZread, I followed this channel and I also read "How Not to Die" by doctor Greger. Fast forward, I have the heart health of a man of 22 years of age now. I am very very far from developing diabetes now. Whole Foods and plant-based, no oils, no processed anything, no sugars My endurance rose I sleep much better, but how much better ? I no longer use the C PAP machine to sleep. I am cured of sleep apnea That's my life now

Finally, i have been waiting for this topic for months. You are doing a great job Chris. I have been struggling with my acne for 8 years and it ravaged my face with deep scars. I went 4-5 years of medication and the drugs gave me constipation. When I stopped taking them my acne went back in a few months. Then I tried to cut sugar for months, it didn't work. Tried low carb diet as well it got better but I still had 3 or 4 big swelling acnes/week. Then I tried plant based diet and it worked in just 1 week 🙂 You got a big thank you from me clarifying a lot of disinformation around the topic. I think this actually might be a blessing in disguise, on the journey combating acne I learned about nutrient at least 30-40 earlier than most people. I'm only 22 now, there's a long way to go. I declare this thing called “The MacAskill Walk.” Decades ago I recognized that 60 Minutes, in need of visuals during narration, would show the primary story subject walking down the sidewalk, walking in their yard, or walking in some other such place. As a photojournalist myself, I dubbed it “The 60 Minutes Walk.” You see this technique everywhere these days. Mr. Chris takes this a step further (no pun intended) by delivering his narration WHILE walking. It’s a brilliant technique and is heightened by the fabulous locales used. I’m also in awe because talking coherently while walking, and filming yourself, is a lot harder than it looks. Just be careful you don’t trip over a tree root. Oh ya, seed oils… Now I don’t feel so bad about using Canola oil for years.

Hahaha, thanks George! It started as a whim because I've had a lifelong habit of walking while I talk on the phone - anything to get the blood moving. I couldn't really tell if people liked me doing it or they preferred I sat at a desk where I have props to show. I like doing it but it has its hazards. I keep having to pause for helicopters and planes (noise) and if I make a mistake while I'm blabbing, it's really hard to fix it - especially in places like the Baylands, I found out, because there was so much ambient bird noise there that re-recording a segment from my houzz was hard.

Ha! Good for Clint Eastwood. I remember probably more than 10 years ago some vegans were saying Eastwood was vegan. Then I watched an interview with him around the same time and he was asked if he was vegan. He didn t know what a vegan was and when he found out he kind of grimaced and said no way. He might not be vegan now but glad he found the healthiest most plant-based path.

I discoverd your channel last week and the vidoes all make such perfect sense to me! I come from german decent on my granfather's side and his family is riddled with heart disease. They all love the traditional bratwursts, cream and other processed food. Well everyone except for my grandfather, seeing as he moved away at 20 and since then has been content eating from his gardens, the favourites being potatoes and spinach. I found it strange that at 80 he is the only one who hasn't suffered a major cardiac event until now. Doctors have raised an eyebrow at him when he stands up in the waiting room as he dosen't look like his peers of the same chronological age. Think I have to steal his recipe book next time I visit hahha

I've been strict vegetarian for the last 22 years. Last year, I found out I was blessed/cursed with the high blood cholesterol gene. Yay me! Anyway, I switched to a whole food plant based diet with extremely little processed oil of any kind. I have those ground flax seeds, nuts and seeds. But, occasionally I eat at restaurants... And there's my oil for the month. And salt. So yeah. Anyway, since August when I changed I had a rapid weight loss of 15 pounds, followed by slowly gaining it back as my body adjusted to the new style of eating. I'm still slim and fit, and get plenty of exercise. The blood cholesterol numbers are slowly coming down, as is my blood pressure. So thanks for the analysis of the analysis. :) As I haven't got the time to read all of the science you have. Thanks!

Sometimes I get too cocky and forget something critical, like I did about the movie A Civil Action when Robert Duvall is interrogating the parents of victims. The ease of transforming PUFA seed oils to trans fats when cooking needs to be addressed. Also, the industry standard for being able to claim 0 trans fats is if there is 0.5 grams or less per serving. Manufacturers adjust their serving size to meet this limit. This limit is due to a cheap testing method that is used, not because this it the level where adverse physiological effects can occur. This is the major reason that I avoid all of these oil types. A secondary reason is ease of oxidation. These oils rapidly oxidize and this is also referred to as rancidity (although other factors add to rancidity). This type of oxidation is also harmful to a persons cellular physiology. This is easily searched. Studies conducted in labs have access to testing equipment to ensure that their oils aren’t rancid, oxidized and/or with trans fat content. Black seed oil is a supplement, somewhat a bad faith inclusion. Vegetable as a broad category meaning plant-based separate from animals, highlights the plant-based community’s own use of new language - language isn’t static. Sesame oil historically was pressed fresh, no one was using cottonseed, corn or canola oil prior industrialization. Some people even use the term ‘industrial seed oils’ to signify this. You breezed over canola oil being named from Canada oil, this was a marketing decision since no one wanted to consume rapeseed oil due to its association with the toxic euricic acid. Canola oil is low euricic acid rapeseed oil and can contain up to 2% euricic acid - look up its harms to the heart. You have a lot of information, but you are also cherry picking. I am a plant forward omnivore; I don’t eat industrial seed oils if I can avoid it (they aren’t in my home) and I also avoid gluten and refined carbohydrates. Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Andrew Huberman and Abel James all have good information on this type of diet. You mention being trained in Earth Science, I have a BS in Biochemistry and a MS in Analytical Chemistry.

Yes. Fats and oils in the diet are ideally eaten in whole plant based foods still bound in fiber with raw unsalted nuts and seeds likely the healthiest sources. This is a pretty basic recommendation from nearly all dieticians and nutritionists (basic nutritional science). Whether you should eat added oil in the diet varies and most nutritionists would tell you to eat extra virgin olive oil if you do but I expect that will change over time. More fluid fats and oils are mostly better than less fluid fats which would make olive oil a better choice than coconut oil for example, but you're most likely seeing studies that are comparing one bad food choice with another to see which is less bad.

I don't think there are any long term studies comparing vegetable oil to no cooking oil at all. Inflammation from eating a particular food like sugar or some kind of cooking oil in a meal is temporary. Inflammation like this needs to be "chronic" to impact your health. Disease causes "chronic" inflammation. Being overweight causes "chronic" inflammation. Not much else does. Exercise causes inflammation too but it is actually good for you because it is temporary and it signals your body to repair itself and grow stronger.

@@PlantChompers i thinlk it is about the amount of highly processed seed oils that is added to almost all processed foods that is the problem. The balance of omega 3 and 6 fats is out of whack in most people and causes inflammation. If you eat natural foods and some high in omega 3 a person can handle seed oils. Dr cywes had a good video on that, because the keto community can be obsessive(as do the vegans). The main problem is balance in 3/6 and processed foods.

I'd love to hear Plant Chompers' thoughts on Thomas Delauer's approach to Mediterranean low net carb ("keto") combined with carb cycling as well as his delving into scientific studies. Thomas seems to be a compelling influencer, especially with his scientific citations, vernacular, public admiration of science, and open minded mentality. I'd love to see a collaboration between you two, I feel like he'd be open to it. There are so many out there that just want to know what the right thing to live long, healthy, happy lives with their family and friends. It's disheartening to live in an age with so much misinformation and profiting at the cost of human life. I appreciate the dedication influencers like yourself are trying to do. Your video on the life expectancy of diet influencers has convinced me to expand my horizons from having started with Thomas, but I still believe in a lot of things that Thomas has said in how he's helped me in my first steps into being healthier. I've decided to move more towards plant foods and less animal foods, but I'm still torn between the two worlds. I mean some of those influencers lived to 100 eating meat sometimes, and if everyone only ate meat sparingly, that also can have a huge impact towards the environment (well that and over producing and consumption in general I suppose). There can't simply be just one right answer, right? Someone's longevity like William Shatner baffles me. Many family members and friends weigh on my opinions on health and it's so vital that I try and find the right path, as many others might be facing.

Also by reducing use at home I don't feel so bad when eating out or at my parents who are nice enough to make vegan food but use a lot of oil.

The biggest surprise of this take is the lack of difference in health between omega 3 and 6 oils. This is different than what I've been reading for decades.

Yeah, that surprised me too. I'm getting lots of questions about that so I'm gonna do a follow-on episode in a few weeks and tackle that.

Watching your videos is like reading up on the treatment of Strongyloidiasis after some dork tweeted “You’re not a horse”. Especially this topic of oils was confusing to me too, thank you so much for oiling yourself up to shatter the confusion!

Thank you very much for spending so much time and effort on you videos. Could you maybe also do a video on Soy, as I only find confusing information on it with the one side calling it completely healthy and the other side claiming it's horrible. Also in the future a summary video about what and what not to eat as an average person would be cool.
