I love how people give these mechanistic explanations for why seed oils are bad for you. But when we look at the research, they're fine. You can make an argument for anything being bad using mechanisms. For example, exercise causes oxidative stress in multiple parts of the body, massively increases stress hormone levels, carries a large injury risk and can disrupt sleep if done too late in the day. But guess what, it's one of the healthiest things you can do

a lot of it comes from the way the fast food industry uses seed oils... Some seed oils are heavily regulated in Europe, but not in the US, so there is evidence to say that they are healthy, but calling them all unhealthy would not be correct either... If everyone did a little research on the particular oil you'll find yourself not using most of them and using some of them sparingly. Or You could just cook at home with avocado oil and not worry about anything.

Avoid them if possible, but if you cook with once in awhile it's not the end of the world. And they all are not created equal... Too much to go into on that. Biggest problem is fast food restaurants reuse the same oil for days or weeks and the oil gets rancid, plus there's a molecular change from re-heating the same oil over and over again, that makes it even worse for your body.

One of the only long term double blind RTC studies ever done that actually compared animal fats vs processed seed oils found that you didn’t start seeing a difference in health outcomes until about 10 years out from the initiation of seed oils to the diet. It apparently takes a LONG time for these changes to take effect which makes sense. My hypothesis is that our cells will incorporate the fatty acid ratios we consume into their cell and organelle walls over time. If you eat mostly saturated fats, you get cell membranes that are robust and resistant to oxidative stress. If you eat mostly seed oils, your cells will have more of their structure composed of material that easily oxidizes and gets destroyed. A difference like this would essentially make you age faster if you eat more seed oils as simply producing and using ATP generates oxidative stress in the cells and your membranes would be less able to handle the “heat stress” of their own engines running.

This is really all there is to it. If you wanted to, I have a strong suspicion that you could 1-for-1 replace olive oil in your diet (in salads, recipes, etc) with seed oils and if you were eating well before and continue to eat the same just with that substitution, you would not experience any negative outcomes (unless you are specifically allergic to seed oils). It would taste worse, but you would be fine. They're just in everything because they are inexpensive to procure as opposed to better oils like olive or avocado.

If Stan believes it's just the calories, he has to acknowledge that seed oils provide no micro-nutrients and minimal satiety, so they inherently increase calorie consumption when consumed in an ad libitum setting. In the end, the outcome is the same, even if the fatty acids themselves are benign; stop eating seed oils.

Simple experiment everyone can do, stop eating vegetable oil and replace with olive oil or animal fat and see how you feel. If you feel better, worse or the same you know whether it’s good, bad or neutral. Studies are great but rely on humans being as intelligent as we think we are - we don’t actually understand the body as much as we think we do but we can all understand how we feel day to day.

I think the issue with seed oils is just seeing how they are extracted and its high usage rate in fast food. Watched "Nutrition made simple" talking about whether or not seed oils are bad, the resounding answer is no from the various case studies done on it and the multiple ways we consume it (via the oil being heated, cooked repeated like in fast food places, normal version), the research says even with all the omega 6's non of the inflammatory markers go up, and instead in some studies they go down. In most of these cases the pool of people ate a tablespoon of said oil a day, this is about 100g of seed oils (given the avg density of the seed oil is .9). So if anything really to take away from seed oils, its fine for the average human to consume in a (confirmed) range below 100gs a week. And at the end of the day cook with what you prefer, if you dont like em you can use avacado or coconut or whatever non seed oil you want, just know if you eat that big mac from mcy d's youll be fine and not be taking 5 years off your life. if you didnt like seed oils to start you prob still wont be after seeing people talk about them, very few people really change their mind on these foods when their already biased (against or for), and there's nothing wrong with that since its your opinion and your body. The issue only arrises when youre just out right doing harm (like eating fast food everyday or sugary snacks).

When I am rocking my 10-12 % bodyfat, eating healthy, getting my micronutrients covered, doing my workouts, it doesn't really matter if I get a bit more saturated fats than I would have otherwise. When the body is at equilibrium, the energy goes to the right place. We are discussing what foods are most unhealthy, when a male is over 15% bodyfat. We should discuss on how to get males below 15%. It's so easy to avoid them and the alternatives are far superior in every way including cost, so there's no reason to just avoid them until 20-40 years in the future we know exactly what their long term effects are.
