​@@ToastyBits bzzt! Muscovies aren't really "ducks". They're related to raptors, i think that's the one.... 😉 So, they are probably the goofiest "Hawks".

I have two runners and I ADORE them. I also have 3 appleyards, and the juxtaposition of the skinny, running Runners with the chonky, aggressively waddling appleyards is HILARIOUS. 😂❤

My first duck was an Indian Runner! His name was Ducky Lucky and he was the sweetest duck I ever raised!

Runner ducks are amazing!! 2 of my year olds have left home 😢 they are desperate to clutch and have been making nests all over the garden and now disappeared! I have a feeling in 28days I will be seeing them back in the garden with a little quacky following! I have miniature silver appleyard x call duck and they are my life!!

I believe I am right! Lady bongo disappeared yesterday! Leaving my 3 boys looking like they didn't know what to do with themselves. This morning lady B was back quacking at the boys and keeping them in their place. I asked her where she went but alas she is keeping it a secret. Now she has houdini-ed again.

@@rollinupeverest5042 no I am heart broken however Lady bongo collected herself a little clutch of 5 eggs I took 3 and replaced them with fake eggs, her 28 days was up on the 8th. Now I have 2 gorgeous little fluff balls following lady bongo round the garden. They are beautiful, they don't replace motchi or toots, but do bring me back to 6 ducks whichake a lovely little family. Hd2 (a 1 Yr male, miniature silver appleyard x call duck) was playing dad yesterday and beautifully snuggled up with one of the babies.

Munchkin, said I'm going to the Pool walks off camera! 5 minutes later when her mom was talking you see munchkin in the background swimming in circles minding it's own business! 😮

We just got 5 runner mixes. They are the cutest thing when they stand straight up

Runners, the vertical ducks of the duck world, are so cute! 🥰

Runners are more high energy than other breeds of ducks, which makes them a bit more high strung, but excellent foragers. They're always up to (or in to) something. Generally if they're comfortable with you they can be very personable, and fantastic gardening buddies.

Im planning to buy a little house on the swedish countryside with a garden for growing veggies. Ever since I first saw the duck videos (especially of Runner ducks) I just can't get the idea out of my head to get some =,) Runner ducks would be such perfect little companions and helpers in the garden, and they are SO cute!

I can definitely attest to them being more timid and skittish. Especially when they are in a group, I’ve got 15 of them which have settled into two waddlings. You’ve got not chance of cuddles if they are all together. One of my ducks Dinky, who hatched with his yolk sac still attached and had a troublesome birth, oh my, he CRIES if he can’t find the rest of his waddling. Really sad cries. Bless him! They really do feel safety in numbers!

Runners can be the most skittish except you raise them from eggs.

I have a Snow White runner duck he is beautiful we have had those ducks for as long as I can remember You did say they spend more time foraging than swimming but that’s not with our ones they are always near water 😅 Also one of them literally washes his slugs in the water for some reason or he just drowns them 😅

Maybe he just likes to clean them before consuming them.

I love my fawn and white runners. They adore being held when babies, are funny, sweet, friendly and curious. They are small and must be protected from overhead predators as well as on ground enemies.

I just got 3 runner ducks and I love them I let them loose around the garden in the morning and evenings and they love eating all the little pest :)

there are people at the park near me who walk their runner ducks in the park along with their chihuahuas and they are insanely cute

Hi, regarding runner ducks.. great breed.. all around hardy and productive.. exceptional foragers... they can cover a lot of ground in a short period of time. excellent at slugging and great layers.. I'm considering adding a pair to my large breed flock of cayugas and pekins... quick question regarding ground based predator controls... what are your thoughts on a goose as a guard animal... as opposed to a dog or the like... cheers

I have two male blue runners and five black females. Runners are generally pretty healthy ducks. From my experience, their primary cause of death is stupidity. They tend to get stuck in places more frequently then other breeds and can more easily be picked off by foxes and hawks. They act more robotic and have less personality than other ducks. The one blue runner likes to be on top of high places like a wood pile or planter. Sometimes females lay long skinny eggs. Black females lay green eggs usually. Watching them run at full speed is quite funny. Only one will come to me for tomatoes but she's very vocal about it. In time, black runners slowly turn white.

So I got my “four Indian runners” at tractor supply and as they got older they weren’t ever tall if anything they were short so I looked up ducks who looked similar to them and turns out my female duck Pringle is a welsh harlequin and my two ducks puddles and Nebe were German blues and my alll black duck raisin is a Cayuga duck *SO DONT ALWAYS TRUST TRACTOR SUPLY*

Does anyone know how these ducks do with colder temperatures? I live in the upper midwest and our winters are pretty harsh.

I had no problems with cold weather, the only problem is frozen water, you must change it at least twice a day if it's frozen

I really want pet blue Swedish ducks, would you mind sharing facts about those!?

I have a pair of Indian runner ducks but it’s strange that the female has laid this year only one egg and a fairy egg , I don’t know what could be the problem but I think she’s just old. Do you have any ideas why she isn’t laying any eggs?

It’s definitely possible that’s she’s just old. She could also be hiding the eggs somewhere if you have them free ranging.

There used to be three runner ducks where I go to animal therapy. But unfortunately a predatory animal got to them (It's on a farm way out in the country) and now they are in heaven.

We very specifically are looking at runner ducks due to them being less likely to fly, for the superior pest control, and for the eggs. We (myself, my queerplatonic partner, and I) are hoping to have a small hold in Minnesota in the future.
