I think the Alvar is an incredible frame! But I would have liked to see larger and more unusual shapes - what do you think?? Let me know 👇

Maybe, but I'm quite happy with the latest frames. I think there are already larger and more unusual shapes within the huge RE's collection of frames. If people like BOLD, they won't like RE's. For me, the beauty of these is in the minimalism, comfort, Scandinavian design, beautiful lightweight titanium, a great frame for the perfect tint and lenses for the best vision. These will be around long after designer, high fashion house brands have gone out of fashion. Definitely eyewear for the individual, not the masses. Less is more. The positives of RE's definitely outweigh any perceived negatives IMO.

Great vid Robert as always. Btw, i thought only their "one piece" collection was made from a single piece of titanium (as they don't have hinges)?

Actually, they are all laser cut from one sheet of titanium. But you are right that the 'one piece' frames are literally one piece without a hinge. This version is better IMO.
hi, great channel! I want to ask whether Reykjavik Eyes makes half-rim frame. What is your opinion or criticism on half-rim frame since I don't see it being discussed much. Thank you.
@thespectaclefactory
Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I think if you want my honest opinion, half-rim frames are (usually) really old fashioned. There are some exceptions, especially from J F Rey and the Raknar by Reykjavik Eyes: reykjavikeyes.com/products/raknar/ - in this case the double bridge balances out the lack of bottom rim, plus the shape is cool. (You definitely want to avoid rectangular). But yes, RE do make half-rim frames. I'd just go for a full-rim titanium frame instead. There is hardly much frame there in any case.
Great video. Which men’s frame would you suggest for a wide roundish face? I always have problems shopping for eyeglasses as most are too narrow for my face. I’m located in the US. Thanks.

General Question. I'm interested in a pair of very cool ,clear ,yellowish acetate Cutler and Gross glasses. Today I learned that Marchon distributes them. (I'm not a fan of Marchon at all. ) Does that mean that Marchon makes the Cutler and Gross glasses? I thought Cutler and Gross were based in London and made in Italy. Any clarity you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Love all of your eyewear videos!!!!

Im new to glasses and got my first prescription in December 2021. I tried at least 60 pairs. Does Reykjavik Eyes make any glasses that are more contoured, as in more curved to follow the front of your face ? For example I really like the shape of my Oakley Tie Bar eye wear. The quality is a bit disappointing on those as I have broken a frame on one pair and now the hinge on another pair. Also they are light but they don't really grip your head a lot and fall off too easily when looking down. Want something light with similar shape, style and contour but better. Open to other suggestions besides Reykjavik Eyes as well if you have some that fit the description above. Thank you.
@thespectaclefactory
Жыл бұрын
Hey Ville, I answered your email on the same subject but the short answer is YES! Because of the flexibility of the titanium sheets from which these frames are cut, they will conform to the curvature of the lenses, so we can customise them by fitting curved lenses.

@@thespectaclefactory Thank you for the reply and big thanks to making the video content on the channel. I have only had glasses for a little over 2 years now. In the beginning I only wore minimalistic square glasses and frameless glasses. Sort of a theme of the less you see on me the better. Now that I'm more used to having eye wear and noticing all the different types of rims out there went out to 12 different eye wear shops and tried on pretty much everything the staff suggested. Found 3 frames that I really liked but wouldn't have even thought about trying or picking before. Now the internal debate is wether to get corrective lens surgery and remove the need for prescription Glasses. (Would be beneficial for work and hobbies). Even after surgery I'd still buy glasses thou. Style and sun aren't going to disappear so 🤣
What kind of a colored tint would you recommend on an Alvar, brushed gun & blue, from Reykjavik Eyes Black label? I feel like considering a minimal 12% percent gradiant green, i guess...
@thespectaclefactory

Blue 12% (possibly with Ruby flash) for sure IMO
@RhythmInAll

@@thespectaclefactory the blue would compliment the inside of the frame, as well as my eyes. Blue was also the second color i had in mind (with a calming view, you mentioned elsewhere), besides green (true color view). The ruby flash could compliment my skin. And those 2 colors do match together, like you showed in some other videos. Thanks for the tips! 🙏 What does IMO stand for? Pardon me for asking 😉

Owning a pair of Panthere de Cartier reading glasses I have to say I am in love with them - that said, I wouldn't rule out a pair of Reykjavik Eyes as a second pair if the need arose, I like the ones with the red arms to be honest, I don't mind color and actually think I embrace it - my only regret is I didn't get a grey tint to my lenses as was told I didn't actually need a tint, but could have one if I changed my mind moving forwards - I guess it was more because I only use them for reading and or computer work in The Office etc, so they decided to put a blue hue to the lenses instead - if I did decide to go to a tint moving forward, do you do them same day or do they have to be sent away and then I am without for a few weeks?

Hey Chris! Good to hear from you! I think the Alvar would give you a completely different look to your other pairs. You'll have to come in and try them when you're ready 👍
Well, that concept definitely goes beyond me. These are just a tool to hold lenses in place. Design-less - is the word. And I'm talking not just about this brand. Al of them are alike. I respect RE attempt to make these frames more interesting with colours but... It terms of comfort, I don't get it either. They all feel like there is nothing on your face at all. I don't even know how to tell if a pair fits)))) They flex so much you can pull them over any face. Weigh is not that important. I wear not so light glasses and after putting them on I forget about them. Wearing them for years now. It's not the weight what's important but fit. If a pair is properly fitted - everything will be comfortable. I definitely prefer Cartier in theirs minimalistic design. I've seen recently a frame from Santos collection, half rim style, very thin but still accommodate some screws heads along the arms. Yes, they are a few grams heavier but they provide positive grip. I can actually feel they hug my head behind the hears, and I like this much more than absence of ultra light titanium frames. And their platinum plating looks way more interesting then any of this colours. I guess this approach is not for me.
@thespectaclefactory
Жыл бұрын
Everyone has different tastes, but functionally, these are better than Cartier for the majority of people. Some people do prefer a more solid feeling frame, for sure. But most don't want to be aware of the sensation of wearing glasses, which is what you get from RE. I appreciate your comments and thanks for taking the time to share them! Obviously I'm a fan of Cartier so if you prefer them I can totally respect that.

Weight makes a huge difference for me while running and doing yoga. Obviously fit is still important too, but I try to find frames under 15g personally.
@Yasmin-wq5jh

You are right in that fit is important however weight is also very important for some. I get such bad sinus headaches and pressure around my nose bridge and temples if I wear a 'heavy' pair of glasses, if I wear a pair for 20mins my headaches last for around 2 weeks in comparison. But you are incredibly lucky in that it doesn't matter for you, wish it was the same for me too then I would have more options! Take care
@i.o.3563
Жыл бұрын
@@Yasmin-wq5jh if you have some pressure point on temples and really good signs of wear on the nose, you probably have a poorly fitted frame. I had these problems in the past. But that’s only because of an inappropriate fit. A frame shouldn’t touch your head before it goes beyond the ear. If it presses on your temples, you will not be comfortable. I don’t advocate for heavier glasses. I just want to emphasise on the importance of fit.
