Here’s my thoughts: IF you’re going to spend 500$ on MODERN “rare” cards - why not just buy VINTAGE rare. Vintage LT > Modern LT

Appreciate your take and how thought out it was. I generally hold that the Pharaoh's Rare should be reserved for Egyptian themed cards from the Duel Monsters era. S tier (era and theme met) - Obelisk the Tormentor, Slifer the Sky Dragon, Winged Dragon of Ra, Gold Sarcophagus, The True Name, The Seal of Orichalcos (looks incredible) A tier (era met and theme met more loosely) - Dark Magician Girl, Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Necrovalley, Gravekeeper's Trap B tier (era met, not on theme) - Red-Eyes Black Dragon, Change of Heart, Mirror Force, C tier (inspired by era, loosely themed at best) - Toon Kingdom, Millennium-Eyes Restrict, Black Luster Soldier - Soldier of Chaos (personally think all of these actually look nice) D tier (no business being a Pharaoh's Rare) - Triple Tactics Talent, Reinforcement of the Army, Elemental HERO Neos, Lightning Storm, Crystal Bond

Agreed The rarity has to make sense for the card. Side note: this has nothing to do with the substance of your video, but I just wanted to say that your video edits have improved a lot! Outside the content itself, the video displays really well so whatever you've been doing...keep doing that!

Ah yes, Necrovalley. A classic card that is meta relevant and has literal Egyptian pyramids on…. Certainly not a great choice for pharaoh rare 🥴🥴

Interesting perspective. I am going to wait a little while to see if I can afford any, but I generally agree with your picks. Necrovalley, The True Name, and Gold Sarcophagus are my personal favorites.

Ever since the OCG introduced the Millenium Rares I was waiting for them to bring it over to the TCG and I agree they debuted it in the best way with the God cards. Imo they're the nicest rarity even though I can see what you mean that it may not necessarily work for every card.

I got into collecting recently and as soon as I saw these rarities I loved them and I bought an ultra pharoahs DMG and 2 ultra pharoahs blue eyes. At face value they’re awesome. They’re some of my favorites in my whole collection

Anything past 2010/2011 is just a money grab.

Re: Blue Eyes White Dragon - it is the champion monster of the Pharaohs nemesis - I think it fits the Pharoah's rare very well.

Spot on brother! I am in full agreement. I was telling people that Neos makes ZERO sense as a pharaoh's rare LOL. Not even a duel monsters card. DMG and BEWD were just included for fan service, but not an appropriate rarity for them either imo. I would've liked to see cards from YGO the Movie (Pyramid of Light, the Sphinx cards, maybe Sorcerer of Dark Magic) get this rarity treatment!

I have the mfc00 the reprint dmg and I have to b sadly brutaly honest it looks better then both u might say no but to my eyes and to many tht have nothing to do with the game most said they liked the pharoahs rare wich is interesting to me they have no how do u say it um biastry and sorry but the blue eyes and red-eyes would have done much better if they were in the correct art and the gods flopped cuz u could barely make it out but I got mine from a friend who got lucky af on a box I paid him 200 for it and I have to say it looks like a game promo of yester year just more ultra rare the foiling is deep lots texturing good job on this on konami most might hate the take but just ask people who don't have a preference or predetermined mind set u get wht u like and everything can drop or as they say go to the moon but just know they only cards tht will b truly valuable are the cards tht are not in a set at all its the 300 random people give ways I mean look at red-eyes dark dragoon tht card should b much higher then it is cuz it's in stralight rare right its Joey and yugis bosses combined right ya nobody cares cuz tbh the card looks like dog water just like the only reason tht the ghost rares flopped from gftp 2 was quality control but to say it makes zero sense makes no sense to say

gravekeepers trap has Ishizu on its artwork, so I think it fits very well. And I love the art on that card

DMG makes sense for the set cause, you know... "mavens"

Rota in ghost is highly desireable as it is heavily played wheras the ghost synchros are more collectible

The DMG, BEWD, and Red Eyes are the best PR Ill be chasing those for sure!

I was skeptical on this set too. Would have made more sense to select cards that fit Egyptian theme I think a holacite god of light would be an interesting pick for this set. The seal of orichalcos is my favorite and love the rarity upgrade, brings back nostalgia.

I personally think most of the Pharaoh's Rares they've released are quite gimmicky, and I think the new printings of the LOB Blue Eyes and Dark Magician Girl also look quite bad. Thought it was a cool idea in King's Court and I agree that the card itself should have relevance to the hieroglyphics. Can't see these ones doing well in the future.

This video didn't age well. The pharaoh DMG is like 1.1k now with a $500 avg listing. That's very far away from $80 :/

This was before we knew they were 1 per case. We thought they were like KICO Pharaoh rares, which were glorified collector rares, 3/4 per case. Thanks for viewing the videos.

I agree with most of your points. One point though is DMG has the magic seal behind it and aesthetically works better than a lot of the other cards imo (even without a strong theme). DMG collectors probably can’t ignore the card as it is 1/18 for a 1/1.5 cases pull rate (1 in 27 cases). Definitely a cash grab but I don’t see DMG being cheaper than others anytime soon.

It’s weird, they picked really dumb stuff. Pharaoh rate would have worked for OG DM and Blue eyes, and also their tablet arts would have been fine. Not a fan of them at all, and it’s comical that these might be some of the hardest to find cards in the future at least from a printing standpoint.

Pharaoh Rare is interesting. They definitely could have done better with it. Especially the choices. Though, I still want to get that BEWD Pharaoh Rare. That’s what I get for being a Blue-Eyes collector. Also, I think the Pharaoh Rare “”works”” for BEWD (and DMG) since it is an iconic card during the Pharaoh’s time. Though, I would have preferred the SDK art instead. But that’s just me. Great perspective on the Pharaoh Rare. Keep these up!

Wish I could finally come around to this rarity, but the aesthetic does not speak to me (yet). Only collecting Starlights for modern (for now).

It's fits blue eyes, dark magician and dark magician girl there all og cards I just wise they choose different card arts. It's just a collectors cash grab and to lower other previous cards value which I don't mind I can see why you dislike it tho.

I disagree with your thoughts on Dark Magician Girl and Blue Eyes. Dark Magician girl used to be the apprentice of the Dark Magician who was a loyal subject of the Pharaoh and part of his court. So she is connected to the Pharaoh. Blue eyes is the main monster of Kaiba who is the reincarnation of the Pharaoh's rival and used the Blue Eyes monster as well. Also Seal of Orichalcos may look good but the symbols are not not hieroglyphics. Not even Egyptian so pharaohs rare doesn't make sense on it imo.

Great video, I was very excited when I heard about that rarity coming into english, I have a few OCG pharaoh rares and they look amazing, but I was super disappointed when I saw the TCG cards, the hyeroglyphs are very small and you can barely see them. It feels like the TCG was really lazy when making these

I for sure agree!! The rarity is a cash grab which capitalizes on great re-prints. Either keep it for cards that make sense and core sets based on the theme or scrap it

I'd prefer if this rarity was much easier to pull, or released in exclusive Pharaoh sets like Gold rares, because the style of the holofoil isn't that great

I think what konami should do now is make a rarity for the main yugi protagonists or rivals, reprinting cards they used. A yugi rare could be a silhouette of yami yugi with a kaiba rare doing the same. But I luv restrict it to cards related to them or they have officially used

The worst thing about the pharaoh rares with kings court is it’s almost impossible to tell the difference between the ultra and the secret online. I want to buy the egyptian gods but I have no clue which is which and I can’t trust sellers to know the difference or be truthful either. Lol

I think Pharaoh's Rares will go up in price over time. I honestly don't care whether the card matches the theme of Pharaoh's Rares. So, being a lover of collecting the cards, the more cards I can get in all sort of rarities, I'll take it. Example: Judgment Dragon got OG Secret print and Ulti print. I like both. I'll take both. If they release a Pharaoh's Rare Judgment Dragon, I'll take it too. Collector's Rare JD? I'll take it too! I notice that TCG might be following foot steps on OCG to print all the different kinds of rarities for us to enjoy. B/c some rarities are just not cups of tea for some. To me, I used to not give a crap about Ultis. Until KoMoney made them local tournament exclusives. Lol. But even then, I'm not all hype hype about Ultis like how I am with Starlights and Collector's Rares. I got a buddy who used to think Ulti is higher rarity than Collector's Rares. He states b/c ultis are local tourney exclusives and cannot be obtained any other way. I say "just b/c they are local tourney exclusives, doesn't mean ppl aren't going to find ways to buy/sell outside the "exclusivity" of local tourneys. Additionally, you pull a few Ultis per box of 100 packs. Whereas, CRs, you pull b/t 2-5 (average) per case of 12 boxes with 24 packs in each box." I think ppl just like Ulti b/c it's one of the first high rarity prints and ppl have gotten used to them. Ultis didn't pop off until recent years, either. I remember picking up a playset of Ulti Shooting Star Dragon for like... $15 total? I think the shift from Core to Local Tourney Exclusives gave them the appeal they have today. And all b/c Americans well... for some reason love Ultis. Lol. But I digress. Oh, and the biggest feedback I have for Konami: they should have printed the hieroglyphics on the borders of the cards too. Like... how they gonna print Ultis and CRs on borders, but not Pharaoh's Rare? Come on now. 😄

As far as I understand, the Seal of Orichalcos is based in western occultism and mythology, not egyptian, so it really doesn't make sense there either. I agree with you on most of these, especially the random Elemental Hero (an archetype I personally don't like to begin with). Although I suppose you could argue in-universe the Seal is meant to be from Atlantis which predates Ancient Egypt, but I still don't feel it works in this rarity. About ghost rares; I kind of disagree, 90% of the time I think they look horrible, even on Synchros. I don't personally associate Synchros with a ghostly theme at all but I can kind of see your logic with the white colour.

I bought 3 displays so far and haven't pulled a single Evenly Match so far nor any pharaoh rares. :') I get what you mean with the whole non-fitting choices for pharaoh rares slots, i think Elemental Hero Neos was an extremely odd pick Konami haha. In my opinion Necrovalley is a sick card in pharaoh secet and fits but i guess it depends on the person's perspective. What i like about Pharaoh secrets is that cards like the gods for example , a neat new rarity that had more value than a mass produced YGD set and looked nicer. I pulled a Winged dragon of Ra ultra pharaoh from KICO a while back and i've put it in the part of my binder where i keep my higher value gods , it fits pretty well :). If i were to do my short top 3 on MAMA secret pharaoh : 1.DMG , it's hard to match MFC's beauty but it looks nice. 2. BEWD.. i just need bewd in every rarity for my BEWD binder ..xD 3. Necrovalley , i don't even like Gravekeeper's much in general but i think it's a sick looking card in pharaoh rare.

Thematically, Necrovally, Gold Sarc, Millennium-Eyes Restrict, and True Name should only be Pharaoh Rare from this set. The Seal of Orichalcos, if it needed a rarity bump for collectors, it should be a Collector's rare or make it an ultimate rare in a OTS pack. The Egyptian hieroglyphs don't really fit the theme, because that is ancient Atlantean hieroglyphs, unless you wanna use the excuse that it was used by Rafeal to battle Yami Yugi and steal Yugi's soul. Overall the set was disappointing for that rarity type. They should've just kept the set ultra rare, but that just my opinion as a avid player and novice collector.

Agreed, Pharaoh's rare doesnt fit seal of Orichalcos. It should either have its own unique hieroglyphic rarity or some other high rarity.

I do think that Pharoah Rares suite the god cards very well. I would disagree with your comment about not seeing the hieroglyphics with the god cards - Imo the Slifer and Ra really shows off this rarity, Obelisk maybe not so much. Overall, not the best rarity. Great video.

I know I will sound like a fan boy, but super agree with your take on these cards. Only contention I have is I do not believe any of them make sense. I think Konami has begun to see the greediness of new collectors and is just releasing sets that have one chase card and the rest are absolute trash. I stopped collecting for a long while after BP02. That set featured the Mosaic Rare pattern, I see this set following that same trajectory which is all the cards end up worthless. As I have come back to collecting this year, I strictly collect OCG. OCG sets from the start have been superior, the quality and attention to rarity and how it affects card art is unmatched when looking at TCG. Even in the lesser priced Korean cards I still prefer those over modern TCG. I think if this trend continues the idea of collecting will be game over for TCG, it will become a cash grab for vintage until prices are even higher than they are now. Either that or Konami decides to do another garbage ghost set. Curious to see what other collectors think about this sentiment, regardless love the video and good luck collecting to everyone

Personally I love these Pharaoh Rares a lot. 1000x better than those ugly Gold Rares that they were releasing previously… I think they look very sophisticated and pristine. Sure there was a lot of questionable choices but all in all the big 3 being reprinted as Pharaoh Rares was enough of a chase for me. Awesome looking cards for sure!

I would like see neos eventually as a starlight, but it def had no business being in this set.

Ghosts, Stars, Pharaohs, and Golds I would say depends on which card it is, and for that reason Secret should be #1 on the list because it can easily make any card look better even the ugly ones.

I find this rarity very overrated in the TCG. The OCG has had this rarity for the last 5 or 6 years ago both in Japanese and Korean had a Yugi box where all the cards even the commons where in this rarity and you can see the rarity much better in the OCG then the TCG. I really wish Konami in the TCG would stop this greed nostalgic where everything had to be hard af to pull just so people would spend over $10k or more on there sets just to pull maybe a few pull of these on top of some of these rarity it’s hard to tell unless you put lightning on them. I don’t mind a chase card or cards but make it justifiable and fair. I’ve been a fan of yugioh seen 2003 mostly play old school format and in these last 8-10 years the TCG has been taking a lot of the fun out of what make yugioh so cool then other card games. They take both ghost rare and ultimate rare out of set because it cost them to much money. ((Let me just say it doesn’t make a difference because it’s the same technology they’ve use for 10+ years at that point it doesn’t cost them any money)) To me that is the most lazy/greedy and unfun they took from the yugioh player from set and this is no different. I wish the TCG had the same love as the OCG has because they have so many cool rarity there and it upset me as a long time fan because at the end of the day it’s paper not gold. I have rare cards myself like TP2 Jar, 1st LOB Blue eyes and etc, etc but that just because I’ve been a fan seen that long ago and if you had them back then it didn’t cost you $500 or more for these cards. TP2 Jar when it come out was high up to $150-$250 back then yes that’s very cheap now a days but back then that was expensive and sure inflation did do something about these but again new paper shouldn’t cost $500+ unless it’s one of those 1 in ever 100,000 pack then yeah maybe side but again their new paper and at the end of the day who want to pay that much for something that’s so little when I can just buy more old school cards that do have a long term interest to yugioh player. As I get older these new cards get more less desirable. Even the new starlight exodia are cool and a good idea, I don’t see myself buying them any time soon because I like the OG unless I’m planning to sell them much higher in the future and that the problem there. A lot people treating this card game like stocks and to me and some other fans that’s not really fun at all and kill the joy out of being a yugioh fan and collector.

Just another money grab fuelled by a flashy rarity with no depth behind it. Nothing can compete with the OG prints. I don't know how or why people think starlights or newer rarities like Pharoah rares look even remotely good when OG rarity variants exist as an option to collect.

Well that’s easy. It’s simply because of time. 20 years from now those 1st Edition Starlights, Pharaoh Rares, and CRs will be worth a fortune because of how difficult it is to pull in the first place, compared to the simple Secret & URs that you didn’t need to open MULTIPLE CASES OF just to pull the exclusive rarity of said card. The OG prints will always be King but they were never as hard to pull as these new rarity chases now.
