    The number one reason I like my OTF knifes is being able to get my knife out, use it, and put it back up safely. While my other hand is busy holding what ever it is that I’m having to use it for.

    Good video. Here's the scenario for otf: You've ended up on the ground in a violent fight for your life, you cannot get to your gun, but you are momentarily able to one hand free in order to reach for and grasp your knife. In this moment I think a top notch quality otf could be the singular knife of choice.

    microtech ultratech is the most expensive knife ive ever bought and i carry it everyday. the size really works for me and mines never failed. i usually carry a spyderco endura, kershaw leek, or crkt big dog for utility tasks so i dont have to use the microtech. i cant say that it was worth it or id buy one again over maybe a zt or custom knife but im glad i have one. i saw a buddy's trodoon and started out with a cheapy lightning otf and saved up for a while. ive wasted money on worse things but at least its cool. great vid man, you hit all the good points.

    the halo is the only choice i’d choose for defense. trying to fumble for that slider (especially ones in line with the blade like the microtech) in a hot situation might be cumbersome.

    Vs folding knives, I like OTFs because folding knives CAN have the lock break and once it does, the hinge will switch the blade in the only direction it can go and it's back into your fingers. With an OTF, the worse is the lock break and the blade goes back inside.

    The MicroTech Delta Dirac is an Infidel killer. What I disliked about MT knives has been that they are all for right handed people. When I carry my gun I want a knife in my left hand pocket and the Dirac and larger Delta Dirac fit the bill for me. I also have the Combat Troodon and love it but my Delta Dirac is getting the most carry time since I can carry it in any empty pocket, left or right side.

    I have an ultratech with a dagger blade that I have carried EDC for about a month now, and I feel as confident as ever having it with me. I just don't see microtechs or other quality OTF's failing as long as you don't abuse them. Very practical in my book with just a few downsides, but the coolness far makes up for the downsides.

    I love to EDC the Microtech Ultratech. What it lacks in ease of maintenance (which it really doesn't need cleaning THAT often, it just becomes less reliable when it DOES need cleaning) it makes up for in having a nice, slim blade that actually slices very well and for carrying so slim in my pocket. Besides, it's just more badass than carrying some of my other blades. Even though my Emerson knives fly out of my pocket, the Ultratech gets more attention and questions when I use it than my Emerson knives do.

    It doesn't rattle at all when closed, it has some slight rattle due to the blade play when open that is required for the action to be reliable.

    Got a Microtech Scarab I bought in 2006. Been my every day carry and use knife ever since. Never had a problem with it because I check for contaminants before I retract it. With that being said, I own a bunch of Microtechs, Robbie Daltons knives, all out the fronts. I also have the Schrade prototype with the aerial switchblade action plus Lone Wolf's palm wood Lobo with Odon's Eye damascus(beautiful piece), 10" stag Hubertus and a half dozen Italian Pascotto Frosolone pick lock switchblades, plus a few Italian transitionals. They all have excellent actions but the Hubertus and Lone Wolf side openers are the strongest side opening autos. OTFs are Robbie Dalton's Arc Angel, Microtech Makora II(super single spring!), and my double spring Scarab. My ultimate folder isnt even an auto. Its the Lone Wolf "Ultimate" T3 LC12600 with Laws/Walker lock and 4.8" S30V blade with titanium liners and micarta scales. An awesome folder if you can find one now. Locks up like a fixed blade knife. Last used one I saw sold for about $600.

    I would assume that Out The Front knives are made more for cutting and slashing then stabbing something? Their weak point is that the blade can be compressed back into the handle? Are there tests on the compression of the blade?

  • @Billfish57

    @Billfish57

    The blades lock when they are fully out, impossible for them to slide back into the handle, that would never happen while stabbing something. It's what they are made for. These brands are expensive and aren't toys at all, highest quality steel, very well made and strong. Either one above could support your entire body weight without sliding back into the handle, unless you are an elephant. They are limited use, expensive, but lots of fun.

    I love OTFs. And I agree they are practical blades. But depending on what you need, a sharpened piece of shrapnel wrapped in tape can be practical. When people say OTFs are impractical, I believe they are saying this, in comparison with the price. I believe the OTFs you have shown here all range from 300-600$. You could buy a regular folder or auto for a fraction of the price, that would serve the same practical function, With OTFs you pay for the aesthetics.

    Don't forget the intimidation factor. I carry a Protech Dark Angel in my back pocket as my reg EDC, and this happens from time to time, I get my ass in trouble hangin around at night, some fucker(s) wanna pull some shit, so I pull my Dark Angel from my back pocket, fire it in front of their face(s) and needless to say, I'm still here aren't I? OTF's are THE weapon of choice for intimidation. Guns are so impersonal and the guys tryin to pull some shit are usually bluffin. OTFs are good stuff.

    They aren't like the European otf knives back in the 20s thru the 50s. Those had very strong springs and no side to side play. If you held one up to someone's gut and pushed the button, the knife would penetrate fully ! They just don't make y hem like that no more. They were real stilettos ! You can get good side openers but no otf openers like those of yesteryear.

    @@YR7A wrong bro. Clearly you've never had one.. Change/debris goes inside the knife and gets lodged between the blade and body. And once that happens you can't open the knife at all. You have to get another smaller knife or tool to get the change out. Try not to spread false information fool.

    Good video. Here's the scenario for otf: You've ended up on the ground in a violent fight for your life, you cannot get to your gun, but you are momentarily able to one hand free in order to reach for and grasp your knife. In this moment I think a top notch quality otf could be the singular knife of choice.

    No lol. A fixed blade would be way better, after that a standard manual or auto folder, even a balisong would be better. Otf would probably fail to lock open or break when you need it most. Have owned several "top notch" otfs and they all broke out of nowhere with the blade stuck in the handle within 2-3 years. The spring necks and the L bars that attach to them break all day. They fail to lock open even in perfect conditions so forget when you're on the ground in a fight for your life.
