Are Motorcycle Brands Taking Over Mountain Biking? | The MBR Show

Спорт

Welcome to the MBR show, where we scrutinise the latest bikes, critique the newest hardware and discuss the hottest topics in mountain biking.
This month we’re going to look at the influx of motorcycle brands into the e-bike market.
We’ll discuss the news that Orange Bikes has gone into administration.
And Jamie is going to give us a run down of the latest Production Privee Shan.
We've also got an important update on the SRAM T-Type review video we published a couple of weeks ago.
And further news on the cutting out issue we experienced on our Canyon Strive:ON test bike with the Bosch Performance CX motor.
SRAM got in touch with us to say that, after watching our video, it is going to make available a T-Type replacement cage assembly, without clutch, to fit XX1, XX, X0, and GX, for just £28 (€31/$29USD), instead of the current cost of over £120 for GX and over £180 for XX.
00:00 - Intro
00:26 - SRAM T-Type cage repair update
03:06 - Motorcycle brands making e-mtbs
11:16 - Production Privee Shan
16:17 - Orange Bikes in administration

Motorcycle brands saw that normal MTB's were being sold at the same prices and in some cases more that MX bikes minus an engine, clutch, swingarm, plastics, seat, radiator, beefy forks, beefy wheels, hubs and spokes etc and thought... there is a lot of profit to work with here if people are willing to pay the same price for MTB's as they do for MX bikes.

Every sram derailleur I've ever owned has inexplicably bent for seemingly no reason. Shimano/other brand from now on. Also, kudos to yamaha for not following the sheep to 29", 27.5+ gives an awesome ride feel. Agile and smooth. I can't see why it's been a largely ignored set up.

I agree the GasGas has gone to the front of the cue. I have been riding bikes for 7 years now and don't have a problem with motorcycle brands having an Ebike in their ranges. Another one to add to your list is TRS similar to GasGas owned by Jordi Tarres. One of my bikes is a Thok TK01R , this brand basically make the Ducati range. I love it and it's an extremely well thought out bike. I would certainly consider owning a new GG in the future, it would sit well in my workshop alongside my 250 GG trials bike.

Big miss is the lack of telemetry and data display Haven't really put enough miles on it to say but, so far it seems to be livelier than my Trek Powerfly. Well spec'd compared to my Trek and a lot cheaper. Big plus was the 3 year warranty

I have thought for a while motorbike companies are going to take over. In my opinion the reason they’re coming in now as there’s only one last major breakthrough on mtb and it’s the introduction of the internal gearbox and get rid of the mech once and for all. Who better than motorcycle companies to do this it is what they do. I bet they have their R&r team working on it right now. Let’s face it with a motor and gearbox they’re closer to a motor bike than a mtb so they thought this is our market and mtb companies won’t be able to compete with likes of say Honda. I think in the near future you will have a motor and gearbox in one lump. Chuck in the mix with the next breakthrough of batteries which is going make them lighter the bikes will have all the bonus of gearbox and motor with weight not exceeded

If you think current mtbs are worse value than they were ten or even 20 years ago you’re delusional.
