Totally agree on Sam Darnold. The guy took a relentless beating on the Jets, then slightly less bad on the Panthers. Finally he got a lifeline from San Fran, but still he didn't get reps with the first team until Purdy got hurt. Darnold flashed some serious arm talent in the few games they let him start... Now, Darnold will get the lion's share of reps with the first team offense. Will he blossom in a QB-friendly system? I don't see why not.

I wish I could be more optimistic but this looks like a 6-7 win team. OL is mediocre, defense is still a work in progress, QB position is a question mark, no playoff in 2025.

Yeah. Early on I liked Cousins (when with Washington). Never really disliked him. But he put himself before the team and that selfishness eventually caught up with him. And he didn't care...as long as the cash cow was there. Perhaps that should be an interview question. If a pay cut grealy improved the chances of a championship' would they do it?

Yes I believe if McCarthy is not ready by the coaches standards then play Darnald. I just want a true and fair QB competition between the two and let the best man win. I’m a HUGE JJ fan and believe he is by far the better player and leader this team needs this year.

Undersized speed rushers? Not all rushers are 270+ lbs. Rushers in a 3-4 scheme do more than rush. They drop back in coverage too. You say undersized, i say versatile

Sam Darnold is this years starter, get over it! He will take 1st string snaps, and if O'Connell can work his magic on Darnold, like he did on Cousins, he is the starter for the season! Darnold finished the season in the Superbowl! The only thing up for grabs is who backs up Darnold, McCarthy, or Mullins!

Darnold isn’t nearly the QB that Cousins is. He is in the same bin as Mullens and Dobbs. If the competition is legit, unless McCarthy is also a first round bust, he shouldn’t have any problem outplaying Darnold and winning the starting job.

@intrepidfool You don't understand, it's not a competition! O'Connell has never said anything about a competition! No matter your opinion of Darnold, he's seen what the league has to offer, speed of the game, the numerous different defensive looks, too many to count. This offense is complicated per Mr Cousins. McCarthy is what I call a leftover, and I don't mean this in bad way, but a least 6 other quarterback needy teams either said No straight up, or said No to the trade up. So McCarthy has issues, determined by NFL coaches. He needs to set, to learn! Last year Houston caught lightning in a bottle, with Stroud, McCarthy is not Strould

To win anything this year, it's Darnold or nothing, he knows most of the offense, was in the Superbowl last year with the 49ers, who use basically the same offense. This year the question should be, who is Darnold's backup!

Until KOC develops a run game and screen game, defenses will just put their ears back and full out attack the QB. Mr. ONE TRICK PONY, KOC is too stubborn to diversify and develop an offense that will keep defenses honest. The lack of imagination and incorporation of a run game needed to effectively utilize play action will stunt any offensive growth or consistenty. I have zero confidence in KOC.
