I really appreciate Steph saying that it's pretty intuitive and you don't need a treasure map to understand humans. Cause I personally feel like this head bobble thing is kind of exaggerated in media. In actuality, in my limited experience I have found that even foreigners tend to catch on it pretty quick and its not really some mysterious phenomenon.
The girl who talked about 'Context' was super articulate!
I'm 20 and just few weeks ago I realised that only Indians do this thing😂😅

It's the expressions on the face along with the gesture. The 'maybe or maybe not' does not exist without a hand gesture or a face expression.

I believe more than the head the eyes and face matter in Indian conversations. If the head is bobbling while the eyes are wide open, then it's an "Yes". If the person is bringing the eyelids together and squeezing a bit and the face shows confusion while the head is bobbling, then it's a "Maybe". Also for "yes", the bobbling might be faster than a "maybe". Also context matters.. it's difficult to explain but it comes naturally to us Indians. I almost never had any problem understanding a head bobble.
Ok our steph is now jaby😂😂and jaby is steph 0:40
The context is all that matters. If you are familiar with a person who you are communicating with, and you know the context, you would understand what they are trying to say usually , regardless of the way they are nodding. It's very correct, that some people naturally also use the standard 'no-nod' to mean yes. But if they are with someone familiar or one who is paying attention, it is understandable usually. In a professional scenario, it can be tough though, because there one needs to clear and to the point. It is nothing unique that professional and formal convs are different than casual convs. In casual convs, it's not a matter, one is free to communicate the way they do and nod the way they instinctively do, and it's not problematic to understand generally then. If still, one has no certainty of what the other person is saying, one can repeat the question or point, and they would reply verbally usually. As the person said, it's instinctive and it's usually not done actively, it's just a natural facial expression characteristic of Indic culture and not much of a big deal according to me.
We Indians Don't Know our own physical movement its unique, until this video. We Indians are thoughts its common & universe, but this video shows us its Unique Indian Physical movement
I think it's all in the facial expressions more than the head shaking
The intro is so funny, and funnier to see Steph's name as Jaby. Just yesterday, in another video, I saw Jaby and Steph reacting to Tanmay's reaction to Indian TV memes and that had the names swapped and mistaken. I can only imagine the meltdowns Jaby must be having over this. It's okay Jaby, it gives us a chuckle nevertheless. :)
We need LOVE TODAY WATCH ALONG WITH JABBYYYY AND ACHARA! PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN ಠ_ಠ
This was good i kept wobbling my head every time someone shake their head in this video
The most tough thing for an Indian is to say NO , because it's hard to hurt others so we do some gestures that even we are not aware of .
This intro is better then the previous video👍
The Intro Track made me smile and giggle.
Yoooo.... what? 😂🎶 I got a desi feeilin 🎶 🤣 thats so cringe and funny
I was very intrigued by the "air quote" when I first saw that in some movie or tv show.. May be in the flash or The 100
The guy in black is so cute😂✨
Check shirt guy explained well 100% agree
Like others have said, everything depends on the context mostly because none of the gestures have definition. And if you notice, all the head bobbles comes with different eye expressions as well and Eyes plays a huge part in expressing what the head bobbles means.
I truly believe that i can have entire conversations with just the head bobble and not even say a word. lol
the head bobble is confusing for us who are from the north eastern part of india since it is not common here. it is more or a central/southern india thing. once when i was traveling through southern india i went to a store and asked for a particular product and the shopkeeper "bobbled" his head and i thought he mentioned no, so i was walking out of his store when he called me back and said he had it. so it is confusing for us too depending from the region one is from.

Don't know about rest of NE but in Assam its complicated..
HEAD BOBBLE is not only GESTURE of language in India. We have eyes (dywane johnson), ears, nose, mouth, neck, shoulders, hands, fingers, legs language CULTURALLY impolyed in society because INDIANS are so EXPRESSIVE and you will see in EVERY action of their life( sitting, standing, running, talking "SWAG")..
The strongly you agree with someone , the head bobbles faster 😂😊
@7:58 "Umm... Yeahh..." And they did it too 😂
Desi is to be pronounced as They-see and not Day-see. ✌️
There is a video named "Indian Nod : Explained" by - This is Barry. I think that would be a great reaction. Extremely funny.
Their duo is the best
Cute cover art♥️
I like to think of it as an "Agreeing with you, Yes" or "Yes, I understand"
5:16 guy explained perfectly 👍🏻
control uday! nice one jaby
He is not starring he was just curious to see if its media that's interviewing her
Only from goras I became self conscious of the head movements. It took a while for me to not being self conscious of the bobble. Didn't even knew it is only an Indian thing.
Basically friends style
I for sure was not aware abt it until I saw it on KZread foreigners talking abt it
0:40 at introduction, Steph's name is showing Jaby Koay 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sometimes two indians even say hello without saying a word by bobbing our heads
Only some indians do this head bobble. If you have to tell someone something without talking this is shortcut
Its a default setting.
Another thing with the head bubble is that it's different in North & South sometimes. Nowadays many people are migrating to North or South so it became difficult to differentiate, but a South 'Yes' might be a 'No' in North & vice versa
Achara told that story in the end to jaby, I remember 🤗🤗
Sometimes yes is too bold and we don't want to come too strong.. So A maybe head bob.. Sometimes we want to say no but want to be polite so for maybe the head bob..
And god of this gesture is pankaj tripathi ...he can act without saying a word
Head bobble has n number of meanings... everything is based on context.
I am an anxious person so whenever im out with my parents instead of replying to them i just shake my head🤣🤣
The head Bob is more complex than explained. The more involved one is with the conversation the more it changes as well. The western head Bob is more definitive, but the Indian head Bob would have different intensities in meaning.
U guys made me conscious now 😅
actually you cant categorise it because its instinctive and basically it depends on situation
The meaning is not as simple yes or no.. We express a lot of grey emotion attached to our acknowledgement positive or negative. Simply put.. the head wobble can mean a wide range of replies... depending on the context, who you are speaking with, the intimacy with them etc... Just for the fun of it, I'll try to actually analyze, categorize n characterize it... 😛 Ofc I know it might vary depending on the place, language etc.. but.. I'll try to extrapolate from all my experience with friends from different parts of the country and different backgrounds. I already know it'll be silly but I'll give it a try... For fun. Firstly, The direction of head movement (the head wobble), the frequency of head movement, the amplitude of head movement (just few inches to moving the the head shoulder-to-shoulder), and also the rhythm of head movement (some are pretty standard and easy to identify), the facial expression, eye brows, lips ...everything is part of the Indian head bobble.. If you don't see the expression, mainly the eye brows n lips... Then you might totally miss understand. Just from this facial expression one can get if it's positive or negative. Then Comes the intensity of head movement.. if it is intense and forceful.. it's a strong emotion... Positive or negative. Then the frequency of the head movement. If the frequency is high that means it implies a "very much" in our expression either positive or negative. The higher amplitude of the head movement with slight smile.. generally for positive "sure or yes" response (in infinity shape) means you are trying to agreeing with them and are like "strong agreement but polite .. because higher frequency movement might seem rude.." Another version for the same thing is slower large amplitude head movement only in one direction once.. with shoulder tilt (a slight smile with closed eyes is also a positive response indication). This is Mostly common with hotel/restaurant staff towards customers. Another one is.. if the facial expression has folded lips and may be slightly squinted eyes.. that generally means disappointed and it is accompanied by a tighter (small amplitude.. neck also doesn't move.. n the frequency is also not much.. the movement is of medium speed in infinity shape) head wobble movement. This means : "Ok.. ok.." or "eh..." or like something's not great it's just average... Or "time pass" (another Indianism ) And if the same tight bobble movement is done with blank expression it means "yh.. may be.. i may not agree... Whatever.. " kinda thing. If the same movement is done with a higher frequency, that means " yh yh.. fine.. get to the point.." or "ok ok.. I'm agreeing just to make you stop.. " etc. And ofc.. facial expression also plays a role. One more version is to wobble head side ways with the shoulder in a see-saw like motion at slower speed with a folded lips.. this also means "eh.. may be... I'm trying to consider it.. not sure... " And there is a head movement for expressing plain Acknowledgement .. "not no, not yes.. i acknowledge and hear what you just said". The quick sideways head bobbing movement also means the acknowledgement This "acknowledgement" one and the "ok ok" one are more common in daily situations. All the above mentioned head movements are different versions of head wobble..... ****"********* But there's also different versions of the western "Yes/agreement" head motion The normal up-down yes motion also means many things if we change the frequency and rhythm. A periodic Up-down head movement means "yes" similar to the American one. Slower up-down head movement means "ohh.. I see.." (this is coupled with raised eye brows). Simple thing is if the up-down head motion has emphasis on head raise, that means there is some doubt involved. If the downward movement is equally emphasized it's an agreement. But a quick rythmic up-down bouncing movement of 3 (i.e., head raise quick drop and raise again) with a slight frown in eye brows means doubtful.. as in "is it so?" If you are keenly listening to someone your head automatically slightly tilts to left (/right) n stays there. This shows attentiveness... Ofc facial expression also matters. If you tilt your head sideways and start looking up, it means you r thinking or having second thoughts or just trying to make a decision... Depending on facial expression.. Anyway it was fun to think all these.. n I'm pretty sure.. people might use these slightly differently.. but facial expression generally gives away the rough meaning of it.
Sometimes even if you're indian you can't understand head gestures if two strangers talking some secrets even in public ...so that gives us a bit advantage to talk privately being in public.....
Noticing wrong names in the intro 😂 is it by purpose or just an error jaby??
This seems like it was done outside my college in Nerul.. SIES Nerul
Anthony Alba will get all the head gestures
what is the secret behind the new name!!??
i am from north & i have only seen a yes or no head shake
I'm already subscriber of Asian Boss
not as complex or strange as made out in US movies... is pretty easy to get as Steph says
I have no idea what indian head bobble is I've been living here for 19 years 🤦♂️
Yes (head bobble), nice intro
Fun fact: We are really bad at imitating the gestures in aware mode! That's highly sub conscious
WTF is that intro song. "I got a desi feeling" just cracked me up
watch the iconic pankaj tripathi head nod in mirzapur
03:27 thats not "yes", that's for agreement, he is agree.
Can we all appreciate the editor for their editing especially for that uday bhai intro😂😂😂😂😂
U also doing it in whole video
its not easy for forigners to understand the head language of indians. it chnages with moods, peoples, environment and context and many other factors from states to states. but yes and no are fixed everywhere.
Wobble is OK Vertical movement is Yes Horizontal is NO
Also react to "what foreigners think of Indian English" by asian boss
I think the head nodding is kindaa in the motion of a ✔️
It's can't be demonstrated when asked to show ... It's something which comes naturally and instant without realising it..
you guys need to see pankaj tripathi's acting he is the boss of acting with his head movement 😄😃

Until I moved to Japan I did not even know that its only an Indian thing
Please react on 2022 year end mash-up of Sush & Yohan
Achara already told that story 👏😃😊
Mostly it means thats it,fine, ok, so-so, whats up, good? but it can mean more based on context. Most importantly its involuntary and whenever we try to do it, it just doesnt feel right
It's nice but I actually don't do any kind of head bobble, so it's safe to say some don't do it.... Lol
Hi .. you guys have started Indian matchmaking season 1, but you discontinued!! We're excited about that one!! 🙂
I think jaby is x man mystique
Jaby is not here but he's still here 0:40
We are not ashamed....it seemed out of our culture...especially souther Indians.....SRK ( shah rukh khan) gave his most iconic scenes with the same...its was called the Indian head shake 20 odd years ago when I was in the states...
Daman movie is the odisha movie
Big fan.. love u
Why is there weight loss mentioned in the title screen
Side to side mostly is OKAY or maybe
Using this gesture our PM have maintained relations with both Russia and United States. ;) maybe other countries should learn this as well. 😆😆

But head bobble is not confusing at all for most of the indians
We have a lot of diversities across the length and breadth of the country. But head bobble is consistent from North to South, North East to West. 😂. I don't know how.
When I Met My Idol - Arnold Schwarzenegger | Terminator : Dark Fate | The Ranveer Show 18 (BEERBICEPS) @JABY AND ACHARA REACTION PLS 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Not everyone does that.. May be old people... And mostly South indians do that... I don't remember doing the bobble head.. I do Yes... And No.. But not may be and other ones.
Achara you can say jaby koay it's ok
This is part of our language. Head bobs are different in south and north India. It's ok if someone does not understand it. You can ask someone to say clearly what they meant. People from outside of India try to imitate it for laughter and make fun of this but that's not how Indians bob. It's like trying to speak a language without knowing the pronunciation.

India is also a noisy chaotic place where you cannot always clearly hear what the other person is saying. It's also difficult to make out the difference between Haan(yes) and Naa(no) as they sound almost similar. So the gestures become important during conversations and specially in a crowded place.

@@tonywayne29bro not whole india speak hindi as you gave example hindi (haan naa) and in hindi we say 'nahi ' not 'naa' is used by some people but not by all. The possible reason behind this can be, india is a very diverse country 1300 + languages, so when a person wanted to travel in olden times, people may have learnt this signs, and got inherited
