Those who have experience cutting EL panels - As for sealing the cut edge, can I use something like clear liquid tape? I need to seal circular cutout edges.

Yes, that works. Gel super glues and 2-part epoxies can also work. Just look for a liquid tape that is waterproof, which makes sure it will provide a proper seal, and Non-conductive, so it won't short out the panel.

This isn't a guide to cutting EL panels, it's a guide to instead pay these people to do it for you. This is not a guide at all, it's an advertisement. Disappointing.

We are sorry you feel that way. We've sold millions of panels and easily the most common issue when someone mentions their panel doesn't work any longer is when someone cuts it. The guide is to encourage the longest lasting use out of your lighting device. While many panels can be cut, there is a 90% chance that your cut panel will not work as long as your factory sealed panel. Plain and simple. So if you feel that this guide is misinforming people, please feel free to share your statistics with us and how you can make a cut panel work as long and effectively as a factory sealed panel.

The guidance is very good. It is telling you why it is stupid to cut the panel yourself, unless you don’t need the panel to last more than a few weeks.

@@EllumiglowPage it is a misleading title. plain and simple, disrespect towards someone pointing out your misleading title and expressing their disappointment in your attempt to mislead people gives your business a bad image, plain and simple. This isn't a guide to cutting el panels, far from it, so explain how that isn't a misleading title. A more appropriate title could of been "Why you shouldn't cut el panels"

@@EllumiglowPage Given you say the better option is to send our designs to you, it would have been useful to have some guidance on what software to use to produce the designs with. Having many years trying to use Blender 3D then attempting other CAD software such as AutoCAD and FreeCAD, I can confirm for non-basic shapes, it's not easy getting the shape you want - especially when a mistake at one point can lead to having to make hundreds of manual corrections when discovered later during the design process.

@@mattarnold198 you're right Matt. That's a good point of something we missed in the video. We can work with a wide range of 2D and 3D software. Because the finished product is flat, it's common to receive .AI, .DXF, or .EPS files. Although we can also receive 3D software like Solidworks files, .STL, .DWG among other common files.

Would I be able to get one for specific dimensions? Like 6” tall x 22” long?

What is a typical life of your panels? I am considering them for backlighting my experimental airplane instrument panel switches. I would like at least a 20 year life.

Our typical lifespan we say is 4-6k hours. Typically this is the time until the product reaches half brightness. Many times our panels can last longer and we've only made improvements to the technology. We can't guarantee 20 year lifespan due to the nature of the product as heat, UV exposure will have a factor, but they have been used in dashboards and instrument panels for quite a long time.

@@EllumiglowPage So, it is more hours of use based than calendar time? I was more concerned with calendar time degradation for my application. Hours of use is unlikely to exceed 3,000.

@@LTVoyager Generally speaking, the degradation of the panel is more a product of total hours of USE versus calendar, yes. I would imagine with that runtime, it wouldn't be a problem to last 20 years.

their is one thing that you can use if you cut the EL panels. It's called silicone just run a bead on the edge of the cut. This should work fine. Only one thing where the heck can you buy illimiglow did I spell that right maybe not. I'd love to get a strip of that stuff

ELLUMIGLOW is where you can buy it, by the way. Also, you kind of have it correct. Think of an EL Panel as a giant capacitor. When cutting it, you are not only exposing the cut edges to the elements, but also not allowing the capacitance of the panel to work as effectively. Thanks for your suggestion with the silicone however.

If you made larger square panels I wouldn't have to cut your A3 and A4 panels. -_-

Blast Hardcheese what size panel are you looking for? We have a 24" x 36" panel?

Is it possible to fold (not just bend) without ruining it?

Folding the panel will likely result in a crease (or dark spot) where the panel was creased. Many times if that dark spot occurs, it would be unlikely to have that spot go away.

Is it still water proof if it's cut?

generally speaking, if the panel is cut, it does remain susceptible to debris or moisture. You can reseal with glue and tape, however we've found that nothing is as reliable as the original factory seal.

Whats the name of the design program used in the vídeo?

That was using Abobe Illustrator. We need any type of vector graphics files, so EPS, AI, DWG files all work to submit drawings. We will then work with you to finalize the panel design and send back a proof before being manufactured.

@@aldoavila8059 We recommend checking the owners manual of the 3D printer to verify compatibility. There are many different kinds of 3D printers and all may have their own software. Many times 3D printers need an STL, or other 3D splicing software, whereas Illustrator is merely a vector software.
