Battery life - Obviously a cordless vacuum cleaner has a limited battery life. Based on the model you purchase, it can range upto 45-60 min. So if you do heavy duty cleaning all in one shot - let's say for example for a few hours once or twice a month, then go for a corded vacuum cleaner as you need to keep the machine on for longer. However, if you do regular cleaning - a few times a week - then a cordless vacuum is sufficient as the battery can last upto 45 - 60 min.
Suction power - cordless vacuums will have lower suction power than corded vacuums. But the suction power on high end cordless vacuums these days is getting much better. If you have lot of carpeted area or have pet fur on your furnishing - then you should go with a corded vacuum as it requires a higher suction power.
Flexibility - cordless vacuums are easier to carry around so when you suddenly feel like cleaning, you can just take the vacuum and go to town. In the case of corded, it is more cumbersome as you have to find a power point wherever you go and the cord may not be long enough - so you may need an extension cord. So it becomes difficult to clean your car or stairs with a corded vacuum.
Carrying Weight - A cordless vacuum will be heavier to carry as the bin as well as the motor is in your hand. Weight can be anywhere between 2-4 kgs based on the model. A corded vacuum will be lighter as the machine and bin will be on the floor.
Bin size - A cordless vacuum generally will have a smaller bin - of upto 600 ml - so ideal for frequent small cleans. Compared to that a corded vacuum will have a larger bin - almost 2-3L - ideal for infrequent longer cleans.
Bin type - A cordless vacuum in general will have a washable bin. A corded one can have either a washable bin or a bag. I find the bag more cumbersome - so would prefer one that has a washable bin.
Attachments - this depends on the models and budgets. But in general a floor and upholstery attachment is present, the rest are available based on models you purchase.
Price - a cordless vacuum is more expensive than a corded vacuum cleaner. For a similar suction power - a corded vacuum is available at less than 5k and a cordless vacuum would be available for over 10-15k.
Storage - cordless vacuums are easier to store. You may get a handy wall or floor mount for the vacuum cleaner. Yes, storing the accessories can still be a pain. Corded vacuums are more difficult to store as they are bulky and unwieldy.
So now that we have spoken about the specifications, when is which one useful:
For Carpets, pets - if your home has lot of carpeted area or you have pets at home, a corded vacuum may be better for your usecase as it has better suction power and longer lasting than the battery in a cordless vacuum.
For regular cleaning - if you are someone who picks up your vacuum cleaner a few times a week to clean odd dust that you see in your house - a cordless vacuum is ideal for you. A corded vacuum can be fairly cumbersome in this case.
For deep cleaning - if you like to do deep cleaning of your house one to two times a month - then a corded vacuum cleaner is ideal for you as it can last a lot longer compared to upto 45 minutes of a cordless vacuum and has a much bigger bin size so no need to empty often.
For small to medium sized homes - for homes upto 2000 sq ft, a cordless vacuum may be ideal for regular cleaning. For larger homes that require more coverage, a corded vacuum would be ideal.

I got overwhelmed trying to decide between the two types of vacuums but when you break it down into these categories, it really helped me determine what fits my lifestyle the best. Even though corded vacuums are more powerful and do last longer, the flexibility and minimalistic design matters more to me in the end.

Hello Saumya, thank you for this detailed video and the practical pros and cons. I've been watching a lot of videos on corded vs cordless. But after using a high powered corded vaccum cleaner myself the one and most important factor that generally no one mentions is the fact that while cleaning the floor, curtains, sofas etc you need to keep in mind that at all those times the big vaccum hose and electrical wire is continuously sweeping the floor so as you lift it to clean a certain section the hose and wire are already dirty from the floor, when you then use it to clean your sofas and curtains that same hose is wiping parts of the area you actually want to clean, completely defeating the purpose. No doubt corded vaccum have greater suction power but the also have huge hoses and long wires that come in the way of the actual cleaning

@@mishalrayan0301 There is no doubt that Dyson is second to None. However it depends on what your need is. Dyson you've to work yourself while the Robot ones are self operating & self charging. The suction power of a Dyson is unmatched by any Robot (today) so it depends if you've the time to do it yourself or you want a Robot to get it done one/ twice a day in a cyclin manner. However Soumya is the best person to address this too.

Corded vacuum cleaners also have a hose, which is absolutely annoying to be limited in range, then you have to either pull the vacuum cleaner around or just carry it around... Which is much more annoying than shoving a lighter cordless vacuum around (AEG qx9 has most weight supported on the nozzle). Main benefit of corded are more suction, cheapness and nearly unlimited runtime. Main benefits of cordless are convenience, electricity efficiency and high portability.

I have 2 corded vacuum cleaners. The first is a handheld vacuum cleaner by Eureka Forbes and another is a wet/dry vacuum cleaner by agaro. There are mini vacuum cleaners with cords from Eureka Forbes, black and decker. These are good for small jobs around the house. They come with reusable bags which are easily washable. The wet/dry vacuum helps with sucking spills which happens when I defrost my standalone freezer

  • @SreelakshmiPrabhakar

@@TheGrapevineIndia It depends on which brand and model one buys. Mine is a smaller variant with a 10ltr capacity bucket. All the variants come with wheels and a handle on top. Some even come with variable suction power (mine is a simpler one). It is easy to use and most of them come with the basic attachments that are standard . For all brands and variants the basic usage involves opening the vacuum from the top. The motor on top is provided with filters (one for dry and one for wet) plus a dust bag (mine is reusable one). So while using for wet, one has to remove the dust bag and add the filter given for wet vacuum (if provided by the manufacturer)to the motor at the top. I paid around ₹3.7k but there are models going upto ₹15k. Since the wet and dry vacuum cleaner comes in capacities of 10ltr, 15ltr, 20ltr, etc. it does occupy some space. However most of the models come with cavities and provisions to keep the rod attachments fixed to machine when stored. Smaller attachments can be stored inside the vacuum cleaner. It definitely looks bulky but is not so heavy to be uncomfortable to use. One can easily wash and clean the bucket like any other bucket. The ones I am talking about are ones where you can suck the spilt liquids but cannot mop. For mopping I understand there's another kind of vacuum cleaner.
