we've had several different kinds of collapsible strainers and funnels. the silicon tends to start splitting at the folds after a few months. We went back to metal and plastic ones

I always figured these types of things would have problems with durability. Anytime you add in complexity and moving parts, it also adds another point of failure. And also cost, probably. And unless you're really short on space, I doubt they're worth it. But I've watched a ton of van life videos, and even those people don't really use these collapsible kitchen things.

@@SobrietyandSolace we have collapsible laundry baskets so no chemicals or heat and after about 6 months the corners start to split. it's just from the silicone being folded and unfolded over and over and over again. it's not so much what's being used on it, just how frequently it's being used and the quality of the silicone

Or cut a tiny piece of non slip matting and put it under whatever bowl you’re using on the scales
That flat whisk is genius Looks way easier to clean than the standard model
6:00 The reason for that limescale isn’t necessarily because it doesnt stick but it is related. You’ll notice the cup at 5:43 doesn’t have limescale. It’s just that the limescale filter is attached to the lid, so it worked fine for the first cup, but not for the second because it opened and a lot of limescale went through the top with no filter.

The kettle will keep turning itself on as the element cools back down again. It means you can’t just give the water another quick blast to bring it back up to boiling and you also have to remember to switch it off before you leave the house with your morning coffee. It’s a little annoying, definitely had the lid pop open on a slightly aggressive pour, but I still use it every day. All the other collapsible silicon accessories are great as long as the silicon walls are sturdy enough to support their weight. I’ve got them all and a few others and they’re mostly pretty good
Re: the scale. You can zero it out, which means you could put a plate on it to create a base for bowls and such, giving you the same surface area to work with as a modern scale using only material you would already be storing on-hand in any living situation... which makes the scale more versatile than if you used it by itself.
I bought one of the folding kettles a few years back for when we are travelling and staying in hotels. During the pandemic, hotels stopped serving coffee in the office in the morning, so having this little gizmo in our bags, along with some tea, coffee and sugar and voila, coffee in the morning. I've had no problems at all with it and would recommend it.

Unless you used bottled water for your little silicon kettle, you may always have a lime scale issue. I like the soft silicon sides but also not so sure about how flimsy it can get. And if you need to plug it in it may not be so good for camping... could use a battery. I love the bottle with all the gadgets in it. But I think my favorites are the fold up cutting boards, strainer, and the fold up whisk. I do not have a drawer deep enough to put a regular whisk into. Those cooking utensils have to sit in a crock on the counter top. Some great ideas here.

It’s nice for when you’re going to places that might not have a kettle like hotels and air bnbs. I actually have one and I use it everyday. I’ve had it for months now and even bought one for my mom. So far it’s still holding up 🙂
I love the collapsible stuff. I bought one of the dish drainers, had it for over a year, and I really like it. Not sure on that kettle due to heat. However the concept works really well on buckets and things that are super handy to have, but rarely used. Love that funnels that collapse, great idea.

I actually have a couple of these things. The kettle, funnel, whisk and strainer. The kettle is my favorite never had issues with the kettle. Works great. I also do periodic maintenance with it by boiling winger when i need to.
I actually really like that last one tbh!!
I love our colapsable collunder, it’s perfect for making smaller poirtions, perfect for a meal and leftovers for 1 !
I find collapsable buckets very handy. Especially if you do not use them constantly.
I do have the kettle you featured in the first product. It is very lightweight and great for travel. I did not experience any such residue you mentioned. If you keep the kettle switched on, it will keep the water hot till next use. I bought it for travel because many times I experienced kettles at my accommodation is oily on the inside, probably the previous guest used it to cook instant noodles. Overall it is a nifty little gadget 👍 EDIT: Mine is a knob while the video shows a toggle switch.

But its plastic how does it not make you cancer?
I helped kickstart a collapsible microwave cover. It's very handy and stores inside the microwave on it's ceiling. My family loves them.
I bought the same kettle for traveling. And as we had a bus tour, I took it with me. And it was a great enjoyment to have evening tea with it! I have a collapsible funnel, and I find it to be on the too small side, but it's still good to own because I don't need a funnel that often, i may even look for a bigger collapsible one. I have a giant collapsible basin (idk, maybe 20 litres volume), and it just sits there snugly beside my washing machine until it's needed; otherwise I'd have no place for a conventional basin, but now I can have this giant tub and it's so beautifully flat when not needed! I do have a collander too, but it's the least necessary of my collapsible items, because I also have all these other collanders and strainers I really like, and they just stack one into another. As long as these items are fully functional and easily washable (which they are), lots of them can be good, especially those which combine being used rarely and taking all the space in cupboards when not used. Kitchenware with combined functions like that basin+board is rarely better than having two items separately. For those which you use daily, less gimmicky seems to be the better, like cutting boards and knives - the simpler is the better. Even with this example of scales: for those who uses them often, a compromise of having flat digital scale might be better. But if your kitchen is truly tiny, the collapsible option may win even with them being abit fiddly.
I think the collapsible board is for washing vegetables after you cut them ,like after you cut a bunch of potatoes you just pop the edge up and add water to remove starches or to wash off dirt from cabbages and such. Sure you can use it for dishes but you have a sink for a reason. Conclusion I think you use it to hold vegetables in water Without using a bowl or using the "dirty" sink

I have had the collapsible kettle for two years now and I love it. I never had an issue with the limescale but I use bottled/purified water in it because we have hard water here in California. And answer your question yes the kettle will turn off and on if it is allowed to shut off in the on position and you leave it plugged in I don't know if the base has a sensor on it but I noticed when I used it a couple of times I forgot to empty the water out right away and when I went back and checked on it 30 minutes later it had turned back on I use mine in the bathroom it usually heat the water in less than 5 minutes
I like that folding Choping board. Cause it can catch liquid on the side while you chop something wet. Its neat ^~^

Thanks so much, and you too 👍
The cutting board works good for chopping over the sink, then rinsing and draining. I can spray vinegar on tomatoes or apples, rub it on, then rinse in the basket and drain. The vinegar removes the waxy coating and disinfects the fruit, prolonging shelf life.
nice video, thanks! for 3:30, sliding can be stopped with a damp cloth underneath (which is pretty useful to clean countertops in general) best to do it for all chopping boards, too

I have two collapsible funnels that are different sizes. They came as a set. The smaller one has a larger volume than the two you showed, and a slightly longer nozzle.
