My understanding of North Korean elections is that they are a sham, so I am not sure what purpose they serve in this example. A thing that is a thing in name only is not a relevant example.

While one should obey one's conscience, to say that a fully functional republic like the US does not have elections, especially in comparison to North Korea, is very silly.
