Conventional flow vs Electron flow, what's your poison?

I think conventional electron flow is stupid. I understand it all came about before electrons and their flow was understood, but we came to that understanding a long time ago now. It now just seems like in the electronic world they can't handle change.... Which is ironic given how much the world of electronics changes. Most of the time it's immaterial and either way works, but sometimes understanding things from conventional flow is downright confusing. I think the electronics engineering world should remember we've moved past vacuum tubes and just start using actual electron flow so there isn't this confusion between science and electronic worlds and people don't get confused

And just to confuse matters there's the idea that the energy flows in the electromagnetic fields around the outside of the wire..... (For AC anyway)

@@LockyourHubs4WDing I did see a video demonstrating that, but forgotten all the details. Obviously induction going on, but challenges the simple movement of electrons explanation. I've never understood AC electricity and the weird things it does to be honest, my simple brain can't seem to wrap my head around it's behaviour

Wow! Chemistry lesson in an electronic video. I didn't expect that depth of knowledge and explaining. Graphite and diamond are all made from pure carbon. Diamond is made by extreme temperature and pressure. This reduces the ability of eletrons to move in the diamond.

Physics! (Only because I'm no bloody good at chemistry.....) You're close, nearly there!

Diamond is formed in a lattice where the spare electrons are used up bonding itself to other carbon atoms , whereas graphine has 2 free electrons that can flow through the sheet

Oops graphite, that leaves 1 spare electron to flow doesn’t it?

With 4 electrons in the valence shell, Carbon is a semi conductor like Silicon or Germanium therefore it can be either a conductor or an insulator depending on how it is constructed.

    Close! What about the structure?

When the atoms form to make Graphite there are electrons left floating free in the valence ring and when Diamond is formed, there are no electrons left free in the valence ring.@@LockyourHubs4WDing
