Ardennes Farm WW2 Diorama - Part 1 - Construction

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Part 1 of my Battle of the Bulge Ardennes diorama, featuring the Tamiya Panther G and the Takom Stug III being converted into US vehicles as part of Operation Greif. In this video I build the diorama base, farm house, and barn buildings from XPS foam and set up the initial groundwork and painting.

Thanks Gaz. I found the foam on Amazon by searching for "under floor insulation foam". I'm not 100% sure about it yet - it has a definite surface texture, unlike the previous blue foam I used to use.

Looking good, very time consuming and were these tanks modified near the front probably not! Snow didn't start until a couple of weeks in to the offensive. Looking forward to part two.

  • @ModelNerd

I don't know where they were modified to be honest. The original plan was far more optimistic (involving actual captured vehicles rather than these disguises), so this was a bit of a "make do" for the Germans.

Hey MN, there is some nice detailing in this project. The brick walls, the carving and the roof tiles. The general layout is interesting and offers a lot of possibilities for placement of pieces. I'm looking forward to the grass/stone/ building painting follow up. The roof tiles look great! Fabulous job all around. I have a question - How would the tank maneuver itself so close to the barn? and Does the Stug fit through the building door? Just an observation. Thank you for sharing your skills and passion for the hobby!

  • @ModelNerd

Thanks Michael, I'm glad you liked it. My thinking was that the entrance to the courtyard is on one of the two unseen sides of the diorama base. For the two barns on the base, they would both have a back wall. However, I didn't want to include it since it would make the diorama much bigger and I didn't want to just block them off with sheet styrene because I wanted their contents (which will include figures) to be more readily viewable, if you see what I mean.
