Arctic Auroras - 8K Ultra HD Northern Lights Timelapse Compilation from Fort Yukon, Alaska
Ғылым және технология
I recently spent three weeks in Fort Yukon, Alaska to help with the NASA LAMP sounding rocket mission. While I was up there I enjoyed some spectacular auroras and had some time to put together this short timelapse film. This is a little different than the content I usually post on here, but with school, work, and photography, it's hard to find time for Apalapse. I hope to return to making educational videos at some point, but I really find joy in taking the photos themselves, especially doing astro timelapses.
Here are some details about the video:
Dates: 2/17/22 - 3/5/22
Cameras: Sony a7r ii, Sony a7s, Sony a7 iv
Lenses: Sony 14mm f/1.8 GM, Sony 20mm f/1.8 g, Tamron 35mm f/1.4 SP
Location: Fort Yukon Long Range Radar Site
If you want to use any part of this timelapse, please contact me at apalapse@gmail.com and we can work out a deal.
Thank you!

'Ave Maria' was a wonderful touch!!! The aurora looked like the hem of her garments gliding over the earth. Amazing job on this video.

UNBELEIVEABLE!!! I keep missing the good nights for this!! If you don't mind me asking, what were your time lapse settings for durations between shots? I've purchased gear based on your videos, Thanks for the help! Now I've just got to get out at the right time.

I mainly used continuous shooting so no delay between shots but my shutter speeds were between 5-10 seconds for each sequence.

Out of curiosity, is there a specific reason why northern lights videos are always sped up? If this was shown in real time speed, what would it look like?
@Apalapse
2 жыл бұрын
They're just sped up because photos can capture more detail than video since you are exposing for longer and therefore have more light to work with. I did throw in some realtime videos in the compilation.

@@ohheyitsCassiescience only attempts to explain "how", it doesnt touch on "why". but yeah surely there cant be purpose to all of this. the clear soul/character in things like auroras, music, etc are just illusions. the great complexities and wonders of our universe are accidental. your eyes are closed. you dont see what i see nor do you want to because someone hurt you.
