I first heard Ravel's Bolero on a recording my father had over 65 years ago. It became my anthem. This performance of it is spectacular. The tune never gets old. :)

Of all the best presentations of Bolero I’ve heard in my decades of living, this is the very best ever. These musicians and each of their masterful command of their instrument is glorious. The nuances that Gergiev has brought to each passage is remarkable!

Sat with my 2 1/2 year old daughter on my lap and she was able to watch all 19 minutes, which is unusual. A great video to show how all the parts of the orchestra work together. An inspiration to young musicians.

The most amazing bit, for me, are the violins, violas, cellos, and contrabass. From reluctant pizzicato to pure aggressiveness.

I agree re the synchronised remark. Yet put the musicians in separate rooms and this interaction would not be possible. They literally have to be close and at hand for all of them to gel.This may seem a little far fetched but its a fact that has been proven. I will try my best to find the video for you to watch as its very interesting !!!!

bolero is my favorite classical song of all time, but this is my favorite rendition of all time, it needs more likes

Bolero was introduced to me at 7...i would lay in front of the high fie and close my eyes and feel and dream about a long camel caravan going across the dessert with the king and rich queens and soilders...i am 62 now and still close my eyes and see the same and feel every single instrument it is one of the most beautiful sexy pieces of music....will always love it....to the nerve endings love it......

The only performance that rivals this is LSO under Andre Previn. No other orchestra gets it right, it seems to meeeeee!🎉

This piece has to be nothing but amazing that you have to listen to this over and over again, Gergiev conducts with compassion and soul in this performance that I would love to see this in person. I SO LOVE how he uses a toothpick for this :) hehehehehehe its just cute! I have watched this like 5-6 times already and I think its time for more :)

Bravo. Pure Brilliant Bravo. Every instrument and drum beat of pure perfection. 2023 echo's your amazing performance forever. Bravo!

I wonder if Ravel himself realised how much genius lay behind this piece. It never fails to amaze and entrance me. (and I am a composer)

+Peter Klatzow I recall reading about him saying that wasn't too fond of it. "I have written a masterpiece, yet there is no music in it". Probably something to do with the lack of counterpoints, and somewhat flatness of the piece, that boils down to a glorified (and oh so pleasant too) crescendo.

Fantastic music! A great version for all to hear! I want to hang out with this conductor!!! Looks like he just spent 3 days in a Amsterdam cafe! Then conducts the London Symphony Orchestra with a toothpick!!! AWESOME!!!

Imagine being apart of that orchestra!, i literally lost myself in the piece, that theme Being passed around the various instruments...so much emotional color.

Magic. Watching videos like these always make me wish I was an orchestral musician (as well as a guitarist)

ecstatic! i love how at the end the musicians realise that they pulled off something extraordinary under the direction of this brilliant conductor and they know that their performance will be remembered and enjoyed many years into the future

Can you only imagine the death stare from THAT conductor if you mess up!?!?

I've sat through opening credits for some major motion pictures that were shorter than the opening for this video. Get to the music!

Seems like Valery GERGIEV is one of the best conductors actually. This is one of the best Bolero version I've never heard. Claudio ABBADO recorded a top one with the LSO in the 80s on DG.

This is how to get a room full of folks to agree on something

Ravel was often critical about how his most famous piece was interpreted, but I think if he were alive today, he'd approve of this performance. Without a doubt, the best rendition I have heard of this magnificent piece of music. At least 4050 drum beats!

I've always been asking what on Earth a conductor does in orchestra?! After listening to Bolero many times before conducted by Dudamel, Jansons, Mehta and so on I understood that this performance by Gergiev is the one that even Ravel would like himself... I can sleep relaxed now, as I understood the secret behind conductor's role!

Love the trombonist cutting lose at 10:43 it almost sounds like he's auditioning for a blues band.

Absolutely magnificent even after 20th time. Didn´t know Jack Nicholson was this talented

both the performance and the conducting, omg they are just amazing. I like this 'perfect' tempo and steadiness till the end. it is a little bit funny that the conductor uses a toothpick but nonetheless I think this version of bolero to be the best. BRAVO :^)

this may not have been Ravel's favourite piece of music, but I wonder if he had heard this version, he would have changed his mind

Just fantastic. Finished my Christmas day celebrations with this; think I'll make that a yearly tradition! Loved the performance, loved the video!

I'm going to listen to & comment on every version of Bolero I can find. I can't seem to get enough of it. This is my third listening. This particular one is quite stirring, and I had only to hear a few minutes before I was completely in awe of M. Gergiev's utter mastery of his craft. A toothpick for a baton? A Titan fells a mighty forest with a mere eyelash!

Absolutely entrancing! I turned this on to listen while I ate my lunch - and forgot to eat my lunch.

This is some intensity with the most delicate, gradual growth. Every instrument is honored and given its due.

I love watching Valery (pronounced Val-e-air-y) Gergiev conduct in this video. Talk about getting into your work! Dude is consumed.

If he's the snare drummer then he is my hero. A living, breathing drum machine. Anyone who can carry that rhythm through 18 passages of the A and B themes of this piece without so much as the hint of a mistake has my respect.
