Loved the video. Thanks for showing how both a high virtue (Jen) and low virtue (you) strategy would work in the same video. Very informative and easy to follow. Great explanations.

1:50 with all those bricks you can build your own Cathedral! With prayers and nuns!

It looks like you had a solid engine here that may have won, despite going the rogue path. All those resources and I bet you could have completed at least 4 buildings and gotten back to the virtue side. Great video and I am looking forward to my play this week!! So you definitely would recommend using Helena in a 2 player game, just to help keep things tight?

I thought you did a great job! I saw Geoffrey's comment about the goofs, and my thought was, "You try and do it." I have a copy of the game, and I think this video was very helpful, goofs and all. Also, someone else commented on the amount of rules. Pfff. I think it has just the right amount of rules. What rules would you remove? Yes, the complexity rating may not have been appropriate, but I don't think there are "too many rules". There are plenty of Hasbro party games for people who like simple games with few rules, and there are, thankfully, games like this that, yes, take a little bit of effort to learn, but are more rewarding to the people who like them. It's an excellent game, and this was an excellent series of videos. My only complaint, which is a minor one, is that the game makers should have thoroughly proofread (and/or paid professionals) to edit and critique the rulebook because, in the copy I read, there were a couple of little writing mistakes and one gray area. Not a big deal, though. And really not relevant to this video. I'm just on a roll.

When replacing an apprentice from the pile to the pool, you do not place it where once was the apprentice you took. Instead, move the apprentice trail to the right, and place the new apprentice in the first space to the left. That way, that illusionist would get harder and harder to get!

sorry, I don't understand what you are trying to say, also, if you don't give a timestamp we can't check for goofs because we aren't going to watch the whole video again to try to find what you are saying.

9:50 comment says 2 pink from quarry but there is only one there at the time I think it should have been 1 pink from the king's storehouse due to tiebreaker (all are singles at locations)

Whats the incentive of giving the captured workes to the prison? You can make money other ways. You get other stuff as well?

if you don't arrest the workers of other players, you leave them open to getting more and more powerful as they get a bigger and bigger group amassed

That i understand, but why should you ever give it back to prison. Isn‘t it more powerful to keep them captured and make sure they have to pay 5 gold to get them back?

He was just getting ready to boom! It can sometimes be a good strategy to hoard resources before going on a building spree. Of course, the game doesn't normally take that long. Rahdo had to make sure we (the viewer) understood what was going on. Brilliant playthrough Rahdo. You're always so electric!

The dummy player feels like it introduces a bunch of top-decking luck with the potential to swing the game. Top-decking and (ill-conceived) die-rolling is ruining contemporary "euro" design (as executed by newer designers), IMO. See: Champions of Midgard's card-flipping. The issue could probably be improved by revealing the bot's next 1-3 actions in advance. It's weird, because the game's basic gimmick could be described as "push your luck-ISH worker placement", where what feels like "luck" is wholly in the hands of the other players. Which is a great concept! But then, with the bot, 50% of player agency/i.e. actual GAMEplay gets replaced by a deck of cards, which makes it feel like a conventional push your luck game, and this is WAY too long/involved to be a conventional push your luck game.

the bot is designed for solo play, and is an optional variant for 2p

I have read the rules and was (unambiguously, I think) addressing the use of the dummy in the 2p game, which is what was shown and lauded in the videos.

yup, the rules make it clear that it's a variant for 2p if you like it, and i certainly laud it as excellent. but if you don't like the impact it has, the game works fine without it :)

Shame this video had so many goofs. A reflection of the amount of rules bloat? Or just an off day?

  • @rahdo

    @rahdo

almost all of the goofs are the same thing (I forgot a special power) or due to prototype rules that didn't explain final rules. that said, i filmed 3 runthroughs that day, and if you look in the background, you see that the house is ripped apart because i'm trying to squeeze filming in while packing up our lives to move internationally...

rahdo lol I thought that might be the case, it was just unfortunate then. Thanks for making the extended play quite long, got a chance to see the virtue system a bit better. Good luck with the move.

I feel the rules in this game can be confusing. It is definitely not weight 2.*/5. It is more around 3 imho. While the gameplay is nice and it is a good take on the worker placement, I will not buy the game until the rulebook is improved.
