Anglo Indians kaise dress up karte kaise hai? Mu kholke bakwas Karne SE pahle, sochna to hai nahi, bakwas Kare Jana hai! One can criticise the acting, but the mounting of a fictionalised comic book, can be anything... What nonsense does he speak? The table looks like American diner, go to Calcutta, you'll find similar seating style in multiple places! Anyways,a crass guy who spews garbage in hair raising volume 😅

Tom Alter was Anglo-Indian by ethnicity..but he was always a proud, flawless Hindi and Urdu speaking Indian..it's sad that the makers didn't even take the sentiments of the Anglo-Indian community into account, just so they could perpetuate their stereotypes 😢

Adaptations are good when made with integrity as Sanjay Leela Bhansali did with Romeo and Juliet and gave us Ram Leela , it was a pure Indian adaptation! Also if you talk about new to the industry and being under the pressure of having a legendary father in acting , don’t forget how Babil Khan made his debut in qala and blew our minds ! So yeah this could have been the easiest role offered to them yet they failed lol😅

I've been reading Archie's for almost 25 years now, and I can vote that Dilton Doiley is definitely not a Gay character. He's presented as an extra-studious, class-topper guy who spends most of his time inside his science lab instead of dating girls. But I've read in many comics that he went to dates and even asked for dating tips from Betty and Veronica when he liked any girl. The Cheryl Blossom series showed him attracted to Cheryl. I knew this movie would be sheer 'Gobar', but Zoya Akhtar should actually apologize to Archie's fans like us for ruining our teenage fantasies!! 😠

When I think of 1960s India. I think of actresses like Sharmila tagore and Waheeda Rehman and actors like Dev Anand and Sunil Dutt . I beg to differ. Even back in the 80s anglo indians behaved & dressed more like Brits. I had teachers and also class mates who were anglo indian. And since this is based in the early 60's the influence would have been more as even the elite Indians at that time spoke and behaved more like the Brits as most of them had been to schools & colleges in London.

Anyone with a working knowledge of post-independent India would know that in 1964 (which is the year the movie is set in), India was going through a tough phase. Political instability was rife after the passing of Jawaharlal Nehru, the morale of the nation was low after the defeat in the Sino-Indian War, and the threat of an armed conflict with Pakistan was looming large. To top it all, India was badly hit by inflation, and food shortage-insofar that we were heavily dependent on American food aid, and there was immense pressure from international agencies to devalue the rupee. Of course, none of this is reflected in the movie. How can Riverdale be immune to all this, especially when most of the characters were small business owners?

Again we are missing the important issue here. The issue isn't of rich vs Non- rich or elite vs Non- elites. If that would have been the case then the only difference would have been of luxury but the actual only issue is of cultural relativity.. Elites of all colonised societies aren't rooted in their own culture, for example while French, German elites would still be French, German, Indian elites are heavily westernised coconuts.. A poor German, middle class German and rich German can relate to each other. That's why Spanish people can relate with 'ELITE' because of cultural relativity not luxury lifestyle whereas in India the issue is not of luxury lifestyle but cultural relativity as we sae during films like 'CLASS' or 'ARCHIES'. All colonised societies, their elites are deracinated coconuts who aren't rooted in worldview of own civilization. Our elite speak in English, only worldview is of Anglosphere, hate their own culture because as Macaulay said 'Indian in blood only'

They should not call this an adaption, better call this a remake. Almost everything is as Americanized as the original comic itself, just the retro aesthetic has been changed to more cottagecore. They've mixed the OG American names and "Archies" iconic stuff like Pop's diner so they're true to the comics, so why bring in the "Anglo-Indian" angle?? Just make a remake. Either that or a completely Indianized version. That way you won't trigger the comic's fandom nor the Anglo Indian depiction nor the actor's privileged backgrounds or anything that should be a problem.

Thanks Shan..as always bang on point. Its stunning that they are living in a "creative" universe..as in the makers Zoya ..who btw is always copying the west...because as we all know the KJos and Zoyas of the world live in a fantasy western world as if their audience is all NRIs that left India 40 years ago. Adaptation is not an issue and or the complete random fantasy..but they seem to be suspended in any reality ....just like how Karan Johar showed Raichand House (in Scotland) as a palace 4 mins away from Chandni Chowk... or SOTU where this university existed nowhere on the planet. Its so crazy that they could have made this more "homely" ..instead they keep copying American attributes as if all kids in India are just like that...instead of showing authentic India where sure it could be similar but lets make it more in tuned with the country vs copying another country.. etc etc which is so random.... like what school is this? where is this school even exist... there is NOT even a school like this in United States ...nobody acts like this or talks like this. Its funny they want to show "modern" kids in India..but even modern kids dont act like this ...its a whole parallel universe they are showing that exists nowhere and im sure some ppl are like this ..I know South Bombay, South Delhi, South Calcutta ...they all the same but kids are not like this ...some are but MOST are NOT. I have many friends from India who are Anglo Saxan and or Anglo Indian like you mentioned...and we all talk in Hindi fluently and so do they... having accent is not a problem ...but creating something this crap is just so weird... like they want to be white ... you can be "modern" and speak english and have accent and still speak hindi and you could still show a normal school and what not .. its like they (Zoya, KJO) live vicariously in UK and or US and are so influenced by it that they dont know how to make something at home ..unless they make again a random out of the world fantasy of raichand house and or SOTU...these "creators" life in a complete parallel universe. I havent seen a worse set of young actors as this bunch..sure they are young and maybe some of them will get better with time..but omg what a random casting and what complete nonsense of an adaptation which is not Indian at all with any of its arc. But this is what OTT has become..before there was hope for new things..now these big media houses have infiltrated OTT platforms basically to show the same crap we see in bollywood with the same nepo kids and its not going to end. Netflix, Amz prime etc etc sold their soul to these big media houses and so called directors and now we are back to square one with the same bad content we see in bollywood movies and Indian cinema overall. Sad.

@Subtr0nic I agree with your entire comment but I don't agree with that thing which you said that entire Indian cinema I don't think so that overall Indian cinema comes into the Bollywood category because if Bollywood produce shitt content it doesn't include the entire Indian cinema because there are also lot of other regional industries in India which has the potential and are producing good content and they are not Bollywood because Bollywood is just the mainstream industry of India but not the entire Indian cinema and also I feel like other Indian industries don't have identity crisis like Bollywood have that they again and again forget that where they belong to and always fantasize something else only ...

I saw Archies and everyone for their first film did a decent job I liked everyone the lead Agastya and Khushi also did a good job, the only cringe for me throughout the film was Suhana, I mean her expressions, her voice the way she delivered, everything was for some reason cringey... Adaption is totally fine but at least they should have adopt in an Indian culture without changing the source material and plot , for example Agastya Nanda's character is Adarsh which is based on Archies character just like Pavitr Prahabakar is based on Peter Parker and other actors as Indian characters based on the og characters in a totally Indian environment. Also the actors have tried very hard to look white and westerner to appease them and that's the main reason many people didn't liked or are not interested in the movie.

To play the devil's advocate, I think this movie will appeal a lot more to Western audiences. International Netflix accounts are promoting it as well and the response has been mostly positive there.

Because it's a generic Netflix movie based on no specific culture and located in nowhereland. It's a throwaway film.
