Hi Robert, what level do you use for a finished site plan ? Option 1: We generally use a 3D view top down, which uses the mesh contours, but that creates problems if we require dimensions. Option 2: if we use a Roof plan tand a copy of the contour lines, boundary, setback, etc for the view, but then we miss out on other objects if they aren't set to display on all levels which you want to avoid for other views. Option 3: Use the a level as a siteplan and trace reference the roof plan as fills, but this doesn't update.

many councils' don't want roof plans on the site plan. So I generally use the ground floor plan. THis is ahrder if it is a very sloping site & I have multiple levels at ground level. In this case I sometimes merge them together in the layout.

Thanks Robert, that's interesting, up here in Queensland I have never found a council that has requested a floorplan siteplan. Yes I might have to go back to overlaying the roof plan on a site plan in layout, thats a good idea, but not that convenient. Thanks again

I see theres two ways to do this. One is to xref a pdf and put it onto a worksheet. Is there any reason you prefer this method ?

I really like the idea of drag and drop over xref. If I'm concerned about losing the link I might do it this way. Sometimes I use worksheets, other times stories. often as I will need to rotate the survey file to orientate with the layout of the building I prefer to put it on a storey rather than a worksheet which will allow me to rotate all storeys in one go using the marquee tool (as I've done in some of my videos).

Thanks Robert, Yes I can see rotating can be a problem, been there and have lost a xref link too, when the server goes down. One thing good about worksheet with a DWG on it, is it seems easier to move a heavy DWG than actually moving a DWG to world center. The other good thing about Xref is file size, but I think end the end for most projects putting the pdf/dwg on a lower level is the way to go. Thanks and nice Tuts
