After about 30 shots I'm getting tired and have to stop or my form gets ratty. Hope this builds me back up. Thanks for the advice.

With all the political craziness going on I took up barebow archery back when Covid locked us down. Your videos have been a huge help. No matter how stressed the news gets, archery allows me to clear everything out and have a period of peace. This video is very helpful due to me learning to shoot left handed due to surgery not allowing me to ever draw a bow right handed again. My gym workouts have changed to build strength, but this accomplishes a lot more than just fitness. Thanks for the video.

On your prior recommendation (previous vids and discord) I had already been doing a 20 minute SPT but being able to follow along with you here made it so much more fun and interesting to where this session felt like it was over before I knew it. If you ever feel up to the torture in the future an SPT series of a few more different durations would be very cool. I know you told everyone everything they needed to know here to do it on their own, and I am not sure if you would ever want to put yourself through that, but it would be fun if you did!

Thanks so much Jake, really have enjoyed all your videos. Had not picked up my bow in over a decade and was initially finding 6 dozen arrows a struggle near the end to pull through the clicker on a 36lb bow. Per your other video, yes I am currently over-bowed but I will be doing these exercises to build back up and it was kind of both honest and encouraging seeing you struggle a bit after your absence from regular archery. I am sure you would say you are over-bowed at the moment but like you mentioned, a week or so of doing these exercises and you would be back into shape - maybe worth linking this video to your over-bowed one?

This is certainly one of the best specific exercises for recurve archers. As you point out it is not only about strengthening but also getting the feel of proper form and developing the muscles memory required for that form. That said you are in great shape compared to many here-(me) so I would recommend cutting the 15 sec X15 minutes down quite a bit to start and even begin with rubber bands. You want low stress to start and do reps until you feel the burn- and not pulling tendons and creating problems for out of shape rotator cuff muscles. Many of us are "overbowed" to begin with for starting out too fast.. work into it. I use rubber bands and lots of reps to begin with. Also be very very careful to NOT dry fire your bow especially when you get tired-- again rubber doesn't care...

Hi Jake Thank you for this awesome video and all your series. I’ve learned a trend out amount of archery from you when it comes to Olympic and Barebow. Your knowledge and experience is worth more than a pound of gold. My question is, would it behoove us to set up our complete setup with stabs, sight and do the SPTs? I do aiming drills with my compound and my instructor, Michael Braden, had me start out with 20sec holding drills and then let down. Now I’m shooting better with higher scores, but was wondering the same for Olympic recurve and setup. Thank you so much for helping with us shooters that are passionate about our sport. We are fortunate to have someone on YT that’s willing to share his knowledge and experience. Thank you again, Jake. 🙏🏽🎯

Hey Jake - I love the idea of this, and having just started looking at shooting again after 5 years off, I want to build my strength up again. Question tho: I shoot recurve, so should I put all the stabilisation and sight on my bow so that it is the same weight as when I'll be shooting it, or does that not matter with this exercise, and this is just to build shoulder/back muscle strength and form?

  • @rickardbrinck2886

There are a lot of theories out there, but no one fits-everyone-fixes-everything method. However, whatever you do, do not listen to those old farts at the range who tell you to just blank bale in order to get rid of it. Removing the trigger of your "fears" will not help you confront them, that's psychology 101 and I can't believe this idea hasn't died out on its own yet. However, if your symptoms are really severe, blank baling may serve as a complimentary exercise to help you maintain your form - but it's not a part of the "cure"in and of itself. I don't always agree with Chris Hill on everything, but this video here is pretty good: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i3p7uJishanIiKg.html

After about 30mins of using my own bow, my left arm started shaking quite a lot. I didn't know what decent exercises I could do to help improve my muscles and form other than doing weight training. Hello Jake your channel has been a great resource for archers all over the world. I really want to thank you for your service to the sport. I couldn't shoot for about 5 months due to the lockdown. Now I have been regularly shooting for about 4 months around 300 arrows a day but I am facing an issue. Earlier during draw and anchor I could feel the tension in my scapula but now I feel it in my shoulder and upper traps and after a while it really starts hurting. I have kind of lost a mind muscle connection with my scapula. I tried practicing with a stretch band too but it has not been helpful. With a very one 'sided' activity like archery shouldn't we be repeating everything left (or right) handed to avoid long term problems?

What kind of strenght training for an 80 year old who hasn't shot in about 15 years.

Is it just me or is your elbow kind of high? I was told to keep the draw arm elbow level with the bow arm...maybe Olympic rules are different than traditional longbow target archery?

Finger loop and metal plate seems likely a Yost. Has graduations for settling accurate crawl each arrow.

British soldiers (of my generation, anyway, and several generations that went before) would have experience of something similar, known as 'pokey drill'. Google the specifications for the British Self Loading Rifle (SLR, or Belgian FAL),and then imagine yourself holding one by the pistol grip, in one hand only, with your arm outstretched (as though awaiting a Roman legionary to nail it to a crucifix). I am soo looking forward to the New Year when I make daily SPT one of my archery Resolutions 😟

Okay Jake, I officially hate you and coach Lee🤣. Seriously that's a #$%@! Definitely can see how it will help make a better stronger archer. FYI I only got through 5 sets before I was fried!🤪🤯

Tried this last night. I am training for bowhunting and my hunting bow is a Samick Discovery at about 50lbs. WOW. I started with a 18 lb galaxy that I use to work form for 3 sets. Then a 30 lb PSE, then a 40lb PSE and then my hunting bow. Kicked my butt!. I could no way do 15 sets with my heavy bow....yet! Of course Im closer to 60 than 50, so I have an excuse. THanks for the video.

Was it too loud or? Tried to eliminate the dead air when I was just breathing and sniffling since I can't cut during the 15 minute segment.

@@JakeKaminskiArchery You're not old enough to remember Walter Cronkite. He would do the evening news. Plain & simple. Even if present day newscasts were worth watching, I can't take the distracting, moving backgrounds and noisey interludes between news & weather segments. The essence of your video was fantastic. I was paying attention to the visual, & listening intently to your dialog. I clicked on you to learn from you, not for entertainment. I like the real deal. Any breathing, etc, is part of the real deal. The added music track is distracting & annoying, and when I turn down the volume, I miss the important part, which is your message to me and the KZread world. I apologize if my original post souned a bit snarky. I hope this response can be taken as constructive criticism. Do what you feel is best for your audience. I wish you all the best with your channel. PS I just picked up a recurve a few months ago. Hadn't flung an arrow since I was around 8 years old. That was way back in the 1960's.

Too both. Although I can understand Bolt's personal view that music distracting but for me I enjoy it and it gives a cue for the SPT (not too loud your great advice easy to hear). So from all, (even from the UK and rest of world) we appreciate the great content and this video helps all to practice together and gain so much great information as you and your coaching skills are wonderful. Many thanks, Jake
