    You're the only one addressing the beginner that doesn't have access to any instruction ,,, and are willing to help one right from the start ... well done ... thank you ...

    I mean addressing the issues. A self-taught is going to have trouble with ... I'm a self-taught musician ... I definitely know how limiting it can be ,,, to learn things the wrong way ... hard to break bad habits ,,, thanks ...

    I'm one of those archers. Only had beginners lesson for about five sessions. 4 years later, I tried my hands on some intermediate equipment, stopped a year later. 2 years later, I started again since there is the first pro shop in my region and local archery scene on the rise. KZread vids and PDF guides really helps a lot.

    I taught myself archery with the online help of NuSensei! I was already a firearms shooter though.

    After a lengthy hiatus from instinctive compound field archery, I recently decided to get back into the sport as a target shooter. In researching this rekindled interest, I stumbled across your videos last week, and I am very impressed with your archery skills, teaching capability, and videography. Based on your videos that I have watched so far, I have decided to take lessons, instead of simply "teaching myself", and tomorrow, I plan to have my first [private] target archery lesson with a certified, level 4, USA Archery coach. This video is particularly pertinent, as I will NOT be able to afford private lessons on a regular basis. So, filming and submitting videos for review online, is something that I will try to do. I have an iPhone 5s, simple editing software, and will buy a tripod in the near future. Regarding my first bow purchase, after watching dozens of reviews by Sheldon Gannon on KZread, I think I will probably end up building an ILF target recurve around a Samick Avante, or, a Cartel Fantom. Appreciatively, Daniel

    Speaking of form: I noticed that most of the time your draw hand is moving slightly forward as you come through the clicker and release! Doing blind shooting and releasing clean without a clicker should help you get rid of that, and your vertical spread should decrease greatly. *thumbsup*

    Do you typically shoot a little high? In your form check of yourself, it appears your low anchor point has the knock slightly less elevated than the tip, or is it just the camera angle? I noticed it in my shooting and raised my anchor point and saw much greater results.

    I have to elevate the bow to make the distance. There's nothing unusual about the arrow angling upward.

    I've also used my laptop webcam for filming. My phone's quality isn't that good, and my camera is a DSLR that doesn't do video. I'm lucky enough to shoot in my basement so there's always something I can set a laptop on should I need to.

    I'm late but I hope you reply. My form is a little different and I want to know how you feel about this. Many people tell me to usr the tip of the nose. Exactly how you do it. But I go down the side of the nose and use a kisser in the corner of my mouth. I find this more comfortable as I don't feel like I'm using my back muscles when I use the tip of nose. Hope you understand what I mean as I have not seen anyone else shoot like this. My old coach said that's what some people use to do and it's all about what you feel more comfortable with. I have used this method for many years and after a 4 year break (aiming for Oceana before I quit gave me to much stress and I crumbled into depression) I am now getting back in and I am starting from almost scratch. Being a horse rider has taught me a lot about what I was doing wrong and why I got so stressed in the first place. Thank you.

    As your coach said: this was a popular method decades ago, and some people still use it. Use what you feel comfortable with. Not everyone can be consistent with the tip of the nose for various reasons.

    Dear NUSensei 先生 I was just wondering if your holding arm needs to rotate while drawing the bow. I remember my coach teaching me that but I didn't really notice you doing it. Should I follow his instructions? Thanks!

  • @NUSensei

    @NUSensei

    The arm should be rotated so that you do not hit the elbow with your string. I don't need to rotate my elbow as much, but I do in fact do so (noting that elbow structure varies between individuals).

    NUSensei Will this affect the accuracy when the bow moves?

  • @NUSensei

    @NUSensei

    The bow should not move. It should be held in a vertical position. Only the elbow turns; not the wrist.

    NUSensei Thanks a lot! By the way, I heard from a friend that the shoulders should be pressed down while in the holding/anchoring position and that it helps improve accuracy. He also added that one should stand fully straight while shooting. Are these true?

  • @NUSensei

    @NUSensei

    7 жыл бұрын

    Both of these are generally correct. The spine should be straight and the chest should be dropped down, levelling the shoulders.

    Would you mind posting a similar set of videos of yourself. Many people could then setup similar videos at home and compare. Perhaps these could be analyzed an annotated by several coaches as well. I would also think that minor elements of the shot process might be different for the different shooting styles, target, 3D, hunting and so on.

    Out of interest, if I followed these reasonable rules and came up with a 5 - 10 minute video (without effects), how much would YOU charge? I currently just shoot in my garden and have had 0 professional guidance.

    For feedback to be meaningful, you should have knowledge of the fundamentals. The more you know, the easier it is to understand what you need to do to improve. The purpose of a form check is to identify faults. Use material to learn good form and use form checks to identify areas that need improvement. Don't rely solely on form checks, as they can point out what you are doing wrong but not necessarily illustrate what you should be doing.

    SoloBlaze Definitely read, watch and learn all you can to start. You'll slowly start to see which techniques you prefer and work best for you. One thing I do is to remove my shirt (easier to see any imbalances) and do some practice draws in front of a mirror, it's kind of like making a video for yourself to review, but the feedback is instant. Once you've got the basics down and have some consistency in your shots then you can make a form check video to identify any smaller issues you may not be able to see yourself.

    I'm confused how do you get more accurate without trying to?

  • @NUSensei

    @NUSensei

    7 жыл бұрын

    Accuracy is the result of consistency and repeatability. Many learners try too hard to "aim harder", but the true source of accuracy is form. Good form = good accuracy. Focus more on getting form and process right, and the results will show on target.

  • @NUSensei

    This depends on your style of shooting. It's not inherently a bad thing, but if you're shooting with a freestyle recurve setup, canting is usually undesired and unnecessary.

    I cant my bow also, but there is no real aiming. I started recurve shooting in preparation for bowfishing. You aim in target during the draw and, after a lot of practice, instinctively shoot. This method of instinctive vs aiming helped me exponentially, might help you as well.
