Great video, great idea and so doable

Nice for less heavy plants. I'll try it for beans and peas. I use cattle panels for my indeterminate tomatoes, cucumbers, squashes, small pumpkins, and anything that takes up a lot of garden real estate. I use t-posts and make an arch so the plants have at least 8 ft to grow before hitting the top. I had so many of everything last year, 2023, my neighbors were getting tired of my drop offs lol

Hi there! Thank you for your idea. I no longer have use of a truck, so I have thrown around several ideas, but I too needed to see what others were doing when they could not transport, cattle panels. I have the chicken wire, rebar and pvc, I might have to rethink using something else other than the pvc. The seasons in my area are windy, rainy, cool to cold and yes also microclimate, area of Washington State. Thanks again for sharing and God bless!

Electrical metal conduit is much stronger than pvc and can be bent with a homemade bender.

I'm using horse fencing made from 12.5 and 14.5 gauge wires that I got on sale at peaveymart as a trellis. So far I've just got some of it setup as a normal fence with my beans and peas climbing on it but the plan is to try making some of it into a fancy archway that'll be about 3m in radius by taking about 10m of fencing and folding it into a more sturdy shape before finally shaping it into an archway. I've got no idea if it'll work but it seems like a suitable replacement for cattle panels. Using Electric Metallic Tubes to add additional strength seems like a really good idea. I was trying to come up with a way of strengthening my trellis since the goal is to have it double as a greenhouse for hardy kiwi vines and maybe a shrub or small tree. Which is also why I want to have folds along the structure since that'll let the kiwi grow along the trellis without touching any of the plastic cover I'll be using to keep them warm during the winter. I'm also considering shaping several tall shrubs or small trees (ideally nitrogen fixers) to grow throughout the structure to help ensure it won't collapse but maybe several well placed EMTs will work better.

Thanks for the comment. It sounds like your horse fencing idea is a good one. I’ll have to check availability in our area here in Atlantic Canada. Peaveymart does not seem to exist east of Ontario. EMT should be a good addition to your trellis. Locally it is only available in 10 foot lengths. I haven’t looked into the possibility of connecting several together to make a bigger arch. I wish you good luck with your project.

I think Peavy Mart is called TSC out east?

If it were me, I'd put conduit over the rebar below so they support the upper conduit better than the zip ties. Add washers to the base so they don't sink down so much. Since metal gets hot, I might try to wrap it with something or coat it, same with the wire fencing, but then toxic chemicals would be a concern, so maybe some agricultural netting would be better.
