Archeage Unchained In 2020 "What Happened?"

Archeage Unchained... The MMORPG with so much potential that lost most of it's player base a few months after launch, what happened?
Download Summoner's War and get 100 Free Mystical Scrolls - bit.ly/2VyWHUz
Archeage Unchained is the Non p2w buy to play version of Archeage that was released in October 2019, When this game came out I went into it pretty much blind as I never really experienced the original Archeage and for the first month or so I honestly had a really good time, I made a bunch of videos for the game, a beginner and end game guide as well as videos praising it overall
How do you go from playing an MMO every day and enjoying it to completely dropping it and not touching it for the past 5 months, In this video I'll explain what exactly caused me and pretty much everyone I know, including my whole guild to all stop playing at roughly the same time...
What was your thoughts and experiences with Archeage Unchained? did you go through similar feelings towards the game as I did or did you know it was fundamentally broken from day 1? let me know in the comments below!

--Archeage Unchained Description--
What‘s new in ArcheAge: Unchained?
The new ArcheAge: Unchained makes the whole, diverse world of the original ArcheAge available to everybody.
Without powerful premium content, the game offers an equal playing field for every style of player.
Power and progression are limited only by your own ambitions.
ArchePasses
ArcheAge: Unchained will feature a new system, the ArchePasses. Every 3 months season, players will have access to 3 different passes tweaked for the major gameplay styles as Combat, Vocation or Equipment. Each of those passes requires approximately 1 month for completion.
Each pass will be split into two tracks with a shared progression. You will need to complete missions in order to level up your passes and unlock the next tier's rewards.
The free track of the pass, available for everyone, will contain the progression and power items required to progress in-game, such as labor potions or infusions. This track will also reward you with ‘Diligence Coins’.
The premium track of the pass, only obtainable via purchase, contains cosmetic items such as costume images or dye tickets. This premium track will be the best way to acquire additional cosmetic items.
Diligence Coins (Marketplace)
By completing the free tracks of the ArchePasses, you will obtain Diligence Coins. You can use those coins to acquire certain power and progression items via the marketplace.
Some of the items you will be able to acquire exclusively via Diligence Coins are Labor recharges, Tempering charms, boosts, pets or farm kits. These kinds of items will be only available via this method. We want to value the hard work. There is no other short-way to acquire them.
Credits(Marketplace)
Credits will be the currency you can acquire with your real money. With this currency, you will be able to acquire the premium tracks of the ArchePasses or cosmetic-related items. Some of the items you can acquire via Credits are cosmetic furniture for your houses, Glider or Costume images, and UCC (User Created Content) items.
Land & Labor
Unchained won’t have a subscription model. The land will be available for everyone, so get ready to fight for it. It will be a beautiful challenge.
The labor system will be also equal for everyone. Same regeneration levels and labor cap set at 5000. You will need to manage your Labor efforts and balance them with your Diligence Coins expenses in order to get ahead of your enemies.
Content
ArcheAge: Unchained will have the same content as the Free-to-Play servers. It will be released with the update ‘Shadows Revealed’ (6.0), containing a new skillset, the Swiftblade, allowing up to 220 different class combinations. A new arena, Stillwater Gulf, a ship-based Battle Royale, some UI and graphical improvements, and much more.

Well isn't that how everyone plays a mmorpg? Or is just everyone stuck in 1 rpg? Because i've played wow, eso, gw2, ffxiv, archaeage, BDO. So i mean if you play an mmorpg and eventually get bored, which you most likely will, then is to be expected. I know its a bit comedic at this point that the pattern repeats but tbh im very much like Lazypeon myself. I also played BDO alot, archeage alot and eventually quit. And Zastier, theres no "return to archeage" coming. Because problem with this trashy mmorpg is that it completly kills any reason for a new player to play and for anyone to return. People are faaar to geared and you can pvp everywhere. Trying to gear up in this game now from scratch is just wasting your time. Getting to 14k gearscore? Ye try farming for 6month from now and you might get there, but by that point everyone else is 20-30k.

any game where a routine starts to develop that lasts more than 30 minutes is just plain lazy development. You should be able to login and progress however you want for as long as you want. Same reason why weekly dungeon caps are cancer. It's basically an excuse for devs to say "hey this new expansion we released is months of new content" when in reality its a 2 hr dungeon you do every friday because the game is dead every other day. And then there are those "expansions" or updates that straight up just add new dailies and nothing else...

Then the newer players come and give it a try after everything has since "settled" and then they get obliterated without much direction, unless they ask for help and a kind soul chooses to assist and guide them. Fortnite for example is free to play and uses exclusively cosmetics for income. Had the developers focused on players engaging each other rather than their game they could have used the game as a platform to sell cosmetics. But because there are also trying to cash in on pay to win and forcing new content out without thought of the in-game loop ruined what was one of the best games to play.

At it's core, archeage was essentially everything that I wanted out of an MMO. It's genuinely saddening when thinking about what archeage could have been. What we really needed from unchained is the updated patch from the korean version around 2013/2014 (The update/build that came after they almost went bankrupt from nearly breaking the game (I forget the exact build versions)(Not 2014 NA release which was the broken build from KR)) and from there continue to add-in the crafting updates, dungeon content etc however remove the cash shop and avoid pretty much everything that caused the game to spiral down hill. It would have been near perfect. Instead what we got was a jumbled up mess, an economy screwed up by an awful, highly abuseable daily system that should have NEVER been implemented, completely gutted trade runs, sole gear progression through a mechanic that was, once again (remember hasla?) a catch-up mechanic for new players to the KR version and NOT an intended mainstay for gear and a completely ruined crafting system (remember years ago where you actually had to get mats and craft for the best gear, how awesome was that?). It also doesn't help that they, after all this time, have still not implemented proper measures to stop the botting/hacking that occurs.

I admit I was in a similar box that I loved the game when I started and had goals, built a mansion got a few skills maxed out to 230k, got Hiram gear upgraded a bit..then just didn't see the purpose. Unlike you no life the game and spend labor each day to keep in the top 50 players you aren't going to be doing sieges, so there is no real point and due to the whole insane high gear score of the top players you can't change class types to a new one as melee, range and mage , healer all have different stats you need on gear and would not be able to catch up on a new character. This game is fun at the start but once you reach Hiram gear and build the best house you can, there really isn't any more purpose to the game.

@@tartilasahid8056 It would have been the best MMORPG for roleplaying, since there is just so much possibilities (like sea traveling, player's houses, a lot of emotions, different languages for races, music e.t.c), if only... if only there were any roleplayers. Literally - I've never seen anyone in this game even attampt to roleplay. And it's really understandable, since the game doesn't have any ~deep lore~ , it's heavily PvP-based game with free PvP in majority of locations, so, if you want to maintain some casual role-play session, you might be interrupted by sudden death, that rains from above and got camped on the nearest spawn. Don't get me wrong - I actually love free PvP, but it's not the thing that might help roleplaying to become a thing. But the biggest issue - it's still a korean grind-and-fight MMO, which roleplayers do not love that much, and it doesn't have any decent lore to roleplay around, so... That's sad, yeah.

Thanks for the video. I think it's really insightful, there's a few things I disagree with though (although fair warning my info is potentially a bit outdated). - There are castles and castle wars, as well as player created factions (you need a castle to create one). There's also the fights between guilds that I don't remember the name of. - I'm a bit conflicted about the labour system, I think it's helpful in making casual players able to keep up with everyone else. - I think the factions work okay if you get to know your faction, although I agree more guild stuff would be good. When I played, our guild was relatively involved with loads of others in our faction, and we organised larger events and fights on our own (although the fact that we had to do that to find stuff to do is a red flag on it's own). Other than that, I agree with everything you said and I really wish the game had better Devs/publishers.

You know, 20 years ago I would log on to Ultima Online , log in one of my characters. I was in a guild that was a VERY strict roleplaying guild, we would occupy the woods of Yew and RP as simple country guardsmen. Not heroic mythical knights of whatever, who some other bland high fantasy RP concept. We were country yokels, in boring chainmail (but with a nice little uniform theme going on). We were extremely xenophobic towards outsiders/ anyone not in the guild, but if you could stay in character and paid your road tax, we might chat to you. Conflict came from other RP guilds that occupied nearby areas, e.g. a group of players roleplaying samurai, orcs, undead players (who would start as human servants and when promoted had a "ritual" where they would become undead, never taking their bone armour off from that point onward and always speaking like thissss. An average day would just be hanging around town during the off peak, usually an event being organised by an officer during prime time (a monster patrol, a pitched battle against another guild, a parade etc). Power levelling was strictly forbidden, you were encouraged to just play your character and not focus on skill gain. I joined as a trainee, and just let my character develop naturally from how I liked to play. I had a pack mule always following me, because I'd like to chop trees, turn them into crates, and make little fortifications on the road by stacking them. I'd never hold my ground in a fight so I just RP'd it as being fairly cowardly, any time I ran away I'd deem it "flanking". One of my favourite memories is an impromptu event I held one afternoon, where everyone would have a go inventing something and then showcase their invention to the officer in charge who would judge the winner. People would stack random items on the ground to create "machines" and RP them as doing something. I made an automatic road tax collector which was a kind of booth with a broomstick sticking out in the area you could pass through. A random player passing through was watching and obviously had no idea WTF we were doing, but just went with it. I asked a civilian to help demonstrate my concept, and they just went with it, and RP'd my machine working too well and getting pummelled by the wooden broom shaft, and since the character doing it was female, it was obviously a little lewd. I miss those simpler days. Who wants to come from the real life rat race, and log in to a virtual rat race where if you don't complete your 5 daily quests you are immediately behind? Or if you don't grind the newest monthly content your formerly top tier gear might as well be thrown in the trash. How about a game where you can log in, tend to your garden or hunt in the forest or shear some sheap for wool which you spin into bandages, then go back to the tavern for a mug of virtual ale to chat amongst friends. But in MMO form, where occasionally something happens to really shake things up.

I have a love hate relationship with mmorpg's in which I love playing, but the the whole lets race to end game. Get there then roam about with our top level gear, and complain there is nothing for us to do mentality. Let's talk about stats of which I couldn't care less about, get the best armor. Do x amount of damage in the fastest time, have to read about mechanics for a boss fight in a dungeon. Then have some Sargent major type tell you your doing it all wrong, or you can't play because you don't have a certain set of armor. The things I love is doing, quests and exploring, doing things on my own or meeting up with other people and doing quests, having a laugh in taverns. Having a house that actually has some point to it, and it not just being filler for the game. So many games are dungeons, difficulty and pvp, pve and that's it......This to me seems like such an oversight, after I've done a bunch of dungeons, usually at high speed so didn't really see half of them, I'm done with that. Once I've got whatever stupid gear it is I supposedly need I'm done with that, there is such a huge amount of potential with open world mmorpg's, but most of them seem in my humble opinion to fall flat. I've never actually tried role playing as I'm not sure I get it, and it seems to have all these really strict rules of what you can and can't do. I find it hard getting into it, though it certainly seems to fit with the whole role playing, these games are supposed to be about. To me more variety in how people play would be good, and mechanics to support that.

Im not saying this mmo is perfect peon but hear me out. They have already fixed the archepass from dailies to weeklies and changed the quest types for it so you complete it seamlessly while playing the game. Also the daily hiram quests are also going to turn into weeklies in the next update and it doesnt take hours anymore to do the dailies anyway since everyone is so strong that all hirams are completed in 10-20 mins depending on the raid leaders navigational skills :P The end game pvp is really fun especially when contesting end game world bosses like, the kraken, leviathan morpheus and many more, thats why i gear up for. Labor is better since you get more of it by completing the archepass missions (and as i mentioned above now they are just simple tasks u complete while playing like using labor gettig exp, killing mobs) i still understand peple that dont like the labor system tho. The game has 100% improved from what it used to be at launch and from what i see its only going to get better, also the dev team are working on a new skillset that uses a musket/shotgun.

I'm not saying the game is garbage cause some people clearly still like it. But 90% of the player base gone and the few returning did not find a reason to stay. Then u start seeing problems in fundamental design. I'm sure the game will get covered again if something major happened. And to me this game is definitely still in my list of things to keep updated on.

@@kuropotato8097 I see what your saying from a new players perspective the game has some flaws that impact some players more than others. regarding the population of the game, it is expected to see a game pop off in the first month of its launch since everyone is looking fora new mmo to play, many will check the game out and give it a try but i would never judge the population of a game by the amount it started with. Also peon was saying that when he used to go to the fishing spot he would see a lot of players and he doesnt see many now, that is because there is an achievement that awards the fishing boat design if you catch a specific number of certain fish, so people used to get in big groups fish together since the progresses shared if you are in a raid/party with faction members. but at this point the people who wanted that achievement either already got it or gave up on it cus frankly fishing needs a lot of work before u can start making good money with it. Side note, i just like unchained cus gamigo in a few months did way more than trion ever could or did in years, so as publishers i just respect them for the effort, of course theyr not perfect at all, the launch wasnt the smoothest thing after all :P (sry for the walls)

They had so much gold, they are still selling it even now as they invested a lot in land and they play the RMT -real money trade game and simply profit monthly. I absolutely loved Archeage on the first release, and I enjoyed the Unchained release somewhat. Your outlines I agree with mostly but to me the dailies and constant questing is what killed it for me. I absolutely loved having my farm, figuring out what trade packs to take where and to upgrade/build my fishing boat. I loved seeing the same people doing what I did beside me regardless of me actually knowing them, I had my fishing buddies, my neighbours and my grinding buddies. Without the progression system via dailies and a clear endgame I think I would've stayed much longer, probably permanently. Lets not even talk about the horrible glitches/launch that made it so a certain amount of players could profit immensely which directly influenced their gearscore. One day, me and my irl mates just didn't feel like doing dailies, that day we logged out and never returned. I was so stoked for the return on archeage and it honestly makes me so sad to see what happened. Unique experience to say the least.

Your description on the labor system is perfect. It's exactly why the game continuously made me not want to play it anymore... labor limits what you can do the second you run low/out. Then when I don't play the game it's constantly on my mind that I'm wasting potential stuff to be done, when I just want to relax a day without doing another AA grind. :/ Also, what do I gear up for? ... I'm no pvper, but the only thing I would ever gear up for is pretty much just to survive out in the world from random strangers who choose to attack me when I don't want to fight and do my own thing not bothering them either. Normal AA from back in the day has affected my trust of any random stranger I encounter in conflict zones. and I don't like feeling suspicious all the time. Feels toxic. oh yeah and all the "classes" you can be, when really only a select few actually enable you to somewhat defend yourself with a chance of winning. seeing the same few classes everywhere is boring.

If you really had alot of free time you would do it. Myself i dont do that because Im happy as fanatic. And the fact that you apparently played aa classic and still cry about labour is sickning, aa classic would make me go crazy if i missed one day of grind bc of my patron. Aau is a paid game the fact that you play the game for couple days then quit to rest doesnt make any sense you can literally play 15 minutes a day and you wouldnt losing as much of a 'rest'.you shouldnt have bought the game on first place bozo.

You're totally spot on about all of the bad things in AA:U. Dailies, time gating, RNG, etc. They're all terrible and the game would do so much better without any of it. But I don't think you, or anyone for the matter, could possibly give even a halfway truthful review of the game in good faith when the game never even really started for you or anyone else that only got that far. During your play time, 90% of the group content wasn't even made available yet. The things that made Archeage ACTUALLY worth playing. During the first month or two the group content that all the players are working towards now to be able to participate in was either disabled because it was still the early phases of the game to prevent massive snowballing or everyone just straight up didn't have the gear necessary to even contest it. These group events are absolute insanity and I've never seen anything else more amazing in another MMORPG. When was the last time you saw a raid leader teleport flare in his 100+ man raid to the middle of the sea and each squad lead in the raid summoned a warship for a kamikaze charge towards the enemy encirclement of Kraken? Literally 15+ massive warships popped up out of nowhere, were manned, and went to war in an attempt to stop the opposing 100+ man raid. Or how about Castle Sieges where the Heroes of the faction select the strongest 50 players of the nation to participate in claiming or defending their territory in Auroria? That shit is cool as fuck and is ABSOLUTELY a goal for players to be able to participate in and work towards. Maybe you'd like Abyssal Attack then. A transport based event where even new players can venture out to participate in high risk high reward pack transport and make huge amounts of gold. An event that doesn't even care about your gear score or equipment and rather just your own speed and timing. It quite honestly appalls me that you, you who did not even experience the content clearly present in the game had the gall to review and complain about facets missing in the game that you simply did not bother to participate in. It just reminds me how every single "mmo reviewer" on youtube clearly does at most a paltry 5 minutes worth of research before they cash in on a "opinion" video at the expense of the game they're "reviewing" and it's players. Quite honestly fucking disgusting really.

From my own experience (from the top of my head right now): -We got to the end-game too fast. That explorer gear shit and the fast boost to lvl 30 killed the pace of the game and made most of the early and mid content worthless and when you get to the end is just dailyage. -Too many god damn bugs and exploits most of them associated to the archepass, like "kill x world boss = good amount of gold" , but people repeatedly rerolled to get that quest and ended up getting 1k gold per day with no labor -Lags and shit servers, like the good old library lagging everyone every 4h everytime a boss was killed. -Old archeage was dead and i was unaware of it , so many shit changes , like the "new" trade pack system basically killing sea fights for those packs and only fishing remains. The onyx trade is a joke and only good for those guys wanting to afk or playing with 2-3 characters at the same time. -Gold buyers everywhere , like seriously servers like alexander in europe are filled with those. -Overall the game being repetitive as fuck and if you want to have a chance in participating in pvp you need to play this game like it's your full time job. Don't get me wrong i got fun with this game but after 1 month you get burnout easily.

Definitely felt the same. I left after the 5-6 weeks mark because they had huge issues with dailies and "stamina" that they had to manually compensate players. Also cheats/hacks made them manually shut down a server lol. Dailies hit hard and 0 end game. Would say its a total waste of time and money but the start was quite memorable

I played this game way back pretty early on, and I totally get where this video is coming from. On the other hand, I truly feel like the potential is through the roof. Like I really love the concept of how trading works through sailing and transportation (I’m big into that stuff) and housing and property aspects never bothered me that much, yeah it’s crowded but it wasn’t always and could be worked around. Overall, with not even that much reworking, I think this game could really be a gem.

You voiced my thoughts on this game so well. Initially it was really fun because it was novel and people were just doing things together. But the problem was definitely the content for end game, and the lack of actual competition between players. Their form of competition was “who has the highest gear score” which honestly, like you said, was a huge daily grind that wasn’t even fun to grind for. Some of my favorite mmos had dungeons that were meaningful to run, dailies that were short and sweet, and had worthwhile goals you could farm for, while at the same time, didn’t force you to if you didn’t want to, since you could do so many other things instead, like crafting, market research, and pvp.

  • @thatswhyidrink
    @thatswhyidrink4 жыл бұрын

We got a non-P2W version of ArcheAge (except for the fact that you have to play three accounts to be competitive, lol), the game just fundamentally wasn't the one that people remembered and played back in the day. A lot of the changes the devs made over the years to address problems the game had were a double-edged sword or straight-up made things worse. Hiram dailies give you a way to stay competitive with gear, but they're a boring chore, even if you can manage to be online for a reset raid and knock them all out in an hour or two. The new trading system just sucks and made trading barely viable anymore. Going to a faction-based system as opposed to guilds for sieges was lame. Even the crime system was tuned in a way that basically makes flagging up not worth it anymore in most cases. Old ArcheAge wasn't perfect, even if you took the P2W out of it, but it was a lot more of a true sandbox than whatever this modern abomination is.

All they had to do is take down the cash shop, but they butchered the game to provide repeatable content as grindy content is easiest to make, a lazy solution. There are private servers which put up all cash shop items up on npcs for purchase with gold, and dealth with all the p2w in one swoop. It is not the lack of skill or intelligence, it is the lack of will to give players the Archeage they deserve.

Lol if you dont like daily's get ayanad or delphanad gear. It's the alternative to hiram. And the best gear in the game is made by crafting it, erenor. Hiram is only there if that's the gear you want and by the way you hate daily missions you shouldn't go for it. Edit: also you should not even do daily missions every day as it is not possible to get all the labor and gold to use every infusion you get....

You must have 3 accounts or you will be far behind everyone else. I've seen a lot of people with 6 to 10 accounts. I feel that the limited labor plays a huge roll for multiple account playing. But number wise makes the game seem more populated than it really is. 10 real people can actually be 30 to 100 characters online.

This game use to be good. Back in the day it was so different I went in unchained thinking "Man I cant wait to tank Kraken again and get Anthalon locked down for my guild to get the gear to help get and hold a castle again" But it was like "Oh you want to own a castle? Well your faction owns it and not you! Ha ha no more 5k gold a week for you" and like Pug raid for Anthalon like WTF no one goes for the 4 set anymore for that raid v raid anth proc. I use to lead a end game guild I use to do all the fun stuff but they took it all away, when I was in discord talking to my guild mates. I'd always bring up something we use to have fun doing in the past and they always came back to me saying "Yeah dude it is not like that anymore" Omg i burned out so fast NOTHING FUN END GAME AT ALL! I use to camp freedich for like 6 hours a day sometimes more and kill people bringing in packs or steal a merchant ship, I use to shot call End game PvPvE events like anth and kraken. I use to own castles and land and have all profs over 70k on more then one account. I use to do trade runs for coal, rock salt and crystal(till they took that away) I use to regrade divines for FUN (got a few Epics and a Legendary) They killed this game it used to be really good now its fucking trash

The original Archeage was so much fun for the first year or so. I had never enjoyed an mmo more than during that time. The faction vs faction pvp was great, the pve was decent, trade runs were fun and challenging, guilds would fight each other even if they were of the same faction. At one point a single guild took control of all the world events due to their pvp capabilities and they eventually became the pirate faction and literally ruled the seas. It's a shame that Archeage no longer has the same kind of content and community.

Some downsides I experienced even on Unchained: The game is WAY too personal and the playerbase becomes toxic. Once a guild starts commanding all the content, it is near impossible to claim it back without some sort of major power shift/guild collapse. Gamigo did NOT address gold selling en mass and it became to norm for players who wanted to become relevant. If you tried to grind it on your own, it would likely take you months to catch up, if you even can. I tried it again after my horrid experience on legacy, but the same issues continued to pop up. I was also a healer, and I felt powerless at times where the UI failed me miserably. I'm sorry you had to waste your time on this game and that nobody warned you.

14:00 It's okay man everyone makes mistakes and I asked a lot of questions when the game came out and it just wasn't the game for me. It's been a long time since I've played an MMO and had fun doing so BDO wasn't fun for me because I didn't want to PvP and thats all the game had to offer other than grinding mobs which was zero fun. This game looked neat but lacked end game content which honestly I found out pretty quickly after the game launched by talking with streamers and watching your vods. We haven't seen a good MMO in YEARSSSSSS so I don't fault anyone for hoping this would be it. Hopefully we will get a game that will change all that but TBH I'm getting older and I have less and less time to play games like this. The only way I'm going to have fun playing a game like this is if I can make progress without playing with other people and still be able to play with others without being weeks behind because I can't play all day long like Twitch streamers and famous youtubers like yourself and honestly I don't know if we'll ever get a game like that but until then I'm leaving the hardest part up to you updating us on the games that are coming out soon and games that are worth playing in the meantime. I wouldn't even be mad to see you do a review on some indie games that aren't MMO's because you always give a well thought out opinion and are really honest about where the game needs improving without getting mad at the devs like I do sometimes. Thanks for keeping me informed and heres to a game worth playing coming out before I die of of boredom lol

Thanks for doing this review on unchained. Maybe someday we will get that experience we chase. As of right now, I'm enjoying the potential of Star Citizens Alpha.
