I backpacked to Moscow and Leningrad. It was right when American announced they were boycotting the Olympics. A bad time to be an American. I had a spy that followed me every where. Then he approached and asked for magazines and jeans. I literally traded everything in my back pack for Russian Fur Hats, Babuka, flags and military pins. They even wanted my disposable razors blades. My mother was hysterical. Worried about me. Then she went 20 years later and traded on the black market like a crazy woman. She got some seriously good expensive historical items. Money and bubblegum. Moscow was the cleanest city I had ever seen. They had beautiful tiles floors at the subways and humongous crystal chandeliers. I was amazed. I look back now and cannot believe I did all that. I am a major history buff 💪 Got to see everything within a ten mile limit. I tried to get past that but they would not let me.

I must admit, I kept thinking Daniel Craig would erupt aka his James Bond role. But, of course, in this he is a History Professor, not a big tough guy. I enjoyed the three part series tremendously. The viewer often had to connect the dots. Meaning, you weren't just fed every scrap of detail: you had to think it through. Cheers

Enjoyable movie. It's funny because Stalin actually did have a son who was captured by the Germans in WWII. They offered to swap his son in a prisoner exchange but Stalin turned them down claiming he had no son. Stalin considered Russian soldiers who were captured or surrendered to be traitors and after the war many many of returned Russian soldiers ended up in the gulags. Stalin's son died in a German concentration camp.

"Hurricanes over Murmansk" by John Golley the true story of two R.A.F. Hurricane Squadrons No's 81 and 134 who were shipped to Murmansk in 1941 to defend Murmansk and keep the Luftwaffe from invading Russia via the Finland Border, with Stalingrad under heavy attack from the Germans and Moscow only a short way away, the Germans had planned to overrun Murmansk and barrel on to take Moscow ... however with the Germans being denied taking Murmansk and Moscow from the West that enabled the Russians to concentrate on Stalingrad. If Moscow and Stalingrad had fallen WW2 would have taken a different path.. Stalin carried out massive acts of Genocide of that there is no doubt but keeping RUSSIA unconquered at the Time was the better of two evils...... Slava Ukraine
