I love these figures however, I find the prices of these make these unobtainable. My last purchase for a figure (VF-04) was under Yamato, those were expensive but still reasonable. Being in Australia, I need to drop at least half a grand to think about purchasing an Arcadia Macross figure :(

My Premium Finish VF-0S arrives today or tomorrow. And I bought it partially because it was easier to pre-order and until recently cheaper than getting the original 0S on the secondary market. And so I could have an Arcadia VF-0 to put the reactive armour on - so much of the tampo will be invisible depending on how I have this on display! Woo!

great review as always. hahaha good point on the not putting all the stops on initial releases for toy companies to double/cash grab for the fans (there's a truth to that thou, it's just business and like you said that ain't hot for the collectors). I am waiting and I hope they would release a premium version of the final battle shin aircraft with the additional boosters, Arcadia had already released the accurate VF-OD of shin. More power to you

I still have the old Yamato version. i am focussing more on the original SDF-1 Macross saga, so my old Yamato will do.

Macross Zero is my favorite mini-series as the 08th MS Team of the Gundam UC

Yes I have the Yamato first release. I forgot Arcadia did a re-release.

While Yamato did do a better job of markings on their toy, it's important to note that Arcadia built a whole new toy from the ground up, it's not a re-issue of the Yamato. The Arcadia toy has much more metal in the joints, is much more solid in the hand, and has better articulation.

True indeed. Was tempted the get the newer version especially since my Yamato has yellowed a bit. But the yellow just gave it a little character. Now is looks battle worn ;-) . Remember when $200 was considered a lot of money for a model scale transforming Macross Valk? The good old days.

Exactly!, and this September will be getting an Official branded YF 19 from Bandai!, full of markings, lots details, great heft, more anime accurate, and almost half the price of this Premium version(if you PO'd of course), I know Arcadia is not as big as Bandai but I also think that Arcadia is abusing in their pricing, very expensive and not offering that much and this is not good formula for their company.

Dx Chogokin they have beautiful tampo and all of them include a base, I guess the perfect comparison is the yf-19, and soon bandai will bring probably the definitive version

I have the yf'19 advance and retail price was 20,000 yen so 100 usd less than arcadia , it is the aftermarket and the short runs that makes the price sky rocket, the new yf was 23000.

How does this compare build quality wise and as a toy to the dx line? Is it comparable to recent dx releases?

The recent DX releases have been for toys that are very complicated and the VF-0S is pretty straight forward but, that being said, I would put it as 'on the same level' with the 'premium finish' version being on the same level or just slightly better than Bandai's normal DX paint applications.

I already have the arcadia so I wont go for the PF. For those who missed the regular one... Do get this one!!! Its heavy, big, gorgeous, fun!!! The best valk I have ever hold (vf 31s are great... but this is a monster!!)

what size do you have in fighting mode?

Same, I got the regular VF-0S from HLJ at a discounted price of 25K yen (that was a while back), very difficult to justify an additional 20K yen for some tiny tampo prints that won't be visible when it's viewed a metre away.

Whoa 495CAD...I don't mind spending 100s on a single figure but that is simply too much for what you're getting IMHO. I guess I'm stuck with my Yamato VF-0A. Too bad Macross stuff has become too much money.

Could you attach the drone on this?

The drone that Yamato sold? Kind of. The drone itself can be attached but feels a little off. The weapons that go with the drone don't fit on securely and wobble and drop off.

I understand, if I may self plug, on anymoon every toy with a review generally has a complete list of releases with the date and MSRP. It's not true of really old toys, and the prices are often still just yen, but it can help.

It hurts me that I love this stuff so much. I spent a bit more than $100 on a hi metal r figure once and now that same toy new is regularly listed around or over $200.
